My son’s mp3 player wouldn’t hold a charge. Apparently this particular brand/model often has this problem. I took it to Best Buy and was told probably a battery problem (not what internet stories said, but makes sense too).
When I said it was used less than 4 months, the service person said okay we can do an exchange. Great.
When he ordered it, it showed on Best Buy’s website that the item was unavailable in store or online, but he was putting the order through anyway.
At that time, he asked if I wanted to pay for a warranty again. Again?? This thing stopped working so soon that I had to use my warranty within only 4 months, which means I’m now not covered for the remaining 20+ months from the original warranty. He clarified this is Best Buy policy, not manufacturer, that original warranty expires. I guess I better get a warranty again after this experience? (his brother has the same one, so I can’t go rogue and get a whole new thing), but if this happens again, I’m close to buying a new one at that point.
He’s finishing the transaction, tells me it’s going to be almost 1.5 weeks until I get the new one now, and I’m still thinking through all of this, and I asked, is it possible for me to change the battery? “Yes, you could probably watch a YouTube video and change it.” He didn’t mention that in the first place, the battery may have been cheaper than buying a warranty again (if that was the real issue), and because he’s now completed the transaction, I am required to give the old mp3 player to them, so I lost that opportunity. Frustrating experience overall. (Plus the 20 min wait time past my appt time.)
The Monday of supposed delivery, I get an email saying it’s delayed, maybe get it by Friday, but if not received in the next 2.5 weeks, they’ll refund. It’s still showing unavailable online - all color options - so I’m worried this thing won’t come back in stock, I’ll have waited 4 weeks for my son to still have nothing, and then I’ll still need to find and order it from somewhere else.
Today I get an email saying it’s ready for shipping, but when I check, it says delivery by their “drop dead” refund date, which is still 2 weeks away. Is it really ready for shipping?
This has not been a great experience. The warranty policy being void immediately upon product replacement is the most awful part, I think. Imagine if this were something pricier, it didn’t work shortly after, they replace, and they make you pay $10s or $100s to warranty the new one all over again? Don’t warranty bad products and have a canceled warranty policy to put that back on the consumer. Live up to your original warranty - THIS PURCHASE SHOULD LAST YOU 2 YEARS, and if it doesn’t, it’s on us for that duration.
