Synopsis

27 Dresses
A single woman who has served as a bridesmaid a shocking 27 times wrestles with the prospect of supporting her sister at the altar on number 28, despite having fallen helplessly in love with her smitten sibling's handsome husband-to-be. Jane (Katherine Heigl) has the kind of altruistic traits that everyone looks for in a friend, yet lately the perennial bridesmaid has begun to feel as if something is missing in her life. One night, local newspaper reporter Kevin (James Marsden) spots the devoted bridal attendant racing between receptions in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and quickly surmises that her quirky tale may be just the story to get him off the bridal beat and into the big time. Immediately suspicious of the cynical reporter's motivations, Jane butts heads with Kevin just as her younger sister Tess (Malin Akerman) shows up in town. While Jane has always put the needs of friends and family before her own wants and desires, she's suddenly prompted to reevaluate her priorities when her boss -- with whom she is secretly in love -- falls for her younger sister Tess. When Tess and Jane's boss George (Edward Burns) make plans to marry, the smitten younger sibling mistakenly assumes that her lovelorn older sibling will be happy to take part in the wedding. For as far back as Jane can remember, she has sacrificed her own happiness for the sake of those she holds dearest, but now that her heart has been broken, she's finally found the courage to be honest with herself. Now, as Jane finally comes to terms with her true feelings, her life begins to change in ways she never expected. Judy Greer and Melora Hardin co-star in a romantic comedy scripted by The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna and directed by Anne Fletcher (Step Up). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    A mixed up love story

Katherine Heigl takes on the role of Jane, a young woman who has been in 27 weddings, but only as a bridesmaid. The whole story begins with Jane trying to juggle the 26th and 27th weddings. It ends with the 28th wedding she would be in. Edward Burns is Jane's boss, who she has a crush on, but will not tell him. Things really get mixed up when Tess, Jane's sister (played by Malin Akerman) throws her charm at the boss, making him fall for her, not Jane. Now sisters fight, and they had a very interesting one. James Marsden stars as Kevin, a newspaper report on weddings, Kevin and Jane begins hanging out because he takes on the story of Tess and Jane's bosses wedding, but Jane revokes him, Kevin still tries to sweep Jane off of her feet. All of this tension breaks at a bar where Jane and Kevin begins singing. The next morning Jane's in the newspaper... Want to know what happens next? Check out the movie.

Is this the best Hollywood can do?

Almost every "romantic comedy" movie hollywood produces involves the same tiring formula. Girl accidentally falls in love with guy, just when things are going perfect, the guy accidentally screws up and the girl is broken hearted. Every single movie I get drug into with my girlfriend follows this formula based on drama coming from lack of communication. I'm tired of it. So she's always in other people's weddings because she can't find a way to communicate with men. Big deal. There's just nothing mentally interesting about this movie. If you want to watch a mind numbing nothing-new feel good movie, this one will work. But please don't make your boyfriend/husband suffer through this.

Heigl has come a long way since Rosewell. But she'd probably be better off if she had stayed back with the aliens. I'm sure many people, not just women, would identify with this film. Weddings are usually fun for the bridal couple and their parents. Until the parents pay for the whole thing. There aren't really any jokes here. Instead there is a "feel good" attempt at a pleasant movie. The 27 Dresses really prove that if you put an attractive woman in just about anything and she makes it look better. But she can't make a film out of nothing.

This was a fun and funny movie - where the girl is always a bridesmaid - never a bride for a diverse group of friends who have equally diverse weddings and wedding dresses. She meets "Mr. Right" early in the movie but doesn't realize it until the end. A thoroughly enjoyable, although very predictable movie. I appreciated that it did not contain any of the fouls (language, actions, etc) that so many of the movie directors today seem to feel are necessary.

This film introduced me to James Marsden's & Malin Akerman's acting, which is fantastic. Jennifer Aniston would have been a better lead than Heigl because the character required wit, timing, and fast talking which Aniston has nailed. Perhaps she did not want another romantic comedy and Heigl still was good. I don't usually enjoy romantic comedies but enjoyed this one. Screenplay is fantastic with creative wit, not dumb jokes.

This is definitely a chick flick. I mostly enjoy action/adventure movies but I occasionally watch romantic comedies with my friends on girl's night. I bought this movie for that occasion. It is funny. I had watched it before and thought it would be a good addition to my movies so it was good enough for me to buy.

This is SERIOUSLY on of the better movies I've seen this year. It may not be Oscar worthy but it's fun to watch with friends. My sister and I could not wait for it to come out and we've been watching it every night since. Cute movie about the epitomy of "always a bridesmaid never a bride". Can't say enough good things about it!
