    Synopsis

    A Perfect World
Clint Eastwood, hot off of his Academy Award win for Unforgiven, directed this small character study, appearing in the guise of a cops-and-robbers action picture. The film takes place during the fall of 1963. Eight-year old Phillip Perry (T.J. Lowther), the son of a devout Jehovah's Witness mother, is staying home while all the other children are out trick-or-treating. But then prison escapee Butch Haynes (Kevin Costner) appears in his kitchen. Needing a hostage to aid him in his escape from jail, he grabs Phillip. Phillip curiously looks up to Butch and willingly accompanies him. Butch gets rid of his fellow escapee after he tries to molest the child, and Butch and Phillip take to the Texas highway, on the run from the cops. The cop in pursuit in this instance is Police Chief Red Garnett (Clint Eastwood), riding in his sleek Populux Airglide trailer -- his "mobile command headquarters." On the road with Garnett is Sally Gerber (Laura Dern), a pushy pre-feminist criminologist, along with a creepy federal agent who is an expert sharpshooter. Butch is not particularly anxious to make it to the Texas borderline, and neither is Garnett in any particular hurry to catch Butch. As Butch and Phillip form a father-son attachment, the paths of Butch and Garnett gradually come together, in time for a final confrontation, after which Garnett confesses, "I don't know nothing. I don't know a damn thing." ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

The ending being shown at the beginning always just confuses me, as I do not understand what is happening. However, once the movie got to the beginning it was entertaining and the story line was believable. The action was good and the characters were acted out very well. Then when the actual ending came I did not want the move to be over. I was hoping there would be some way for little boy and the escapee to be friends and continue on with their interaction.

Kevin Costner gives one of his best performances ever in this movie about an escaped convict taking a boy hostage to aid in his getaway. While on the road, they form an incredible bond, and Costner's character redeems himself by proving, in more ways than one, that he's a better person than most people who aren't criminals. Widescreen, Highly recommended, though some bonus materials would have been preferred.

I bought this movie because a friend had never heard of it, and when I described the plot, he was instantly interested. I definitely wanted add this movie to my collection, and to share it with my friend, as well as, with family members. It is a moving story of the unlikely bond developed by an escaped convict and a boy who happens to be Jehovah's Witness.

Fantastic plot makes you root for Costner’s character even though he plays the bad guy. Movie draws you into the story and gives you the feel of being in S. Texas in the eighties.

Clint Eastwood plays a sheriff looking for a escaped prisoner. Who has kidnapped a boy. Kevin Costner, who plays the prisoner, does things for the boy he has never done, because of his family's beliefs.
