    Synopsis

    Afro Samurai: Resurrection
The super bad samurai who avenged his father and found a life of peace is pulled back into the game by a deadly beauty from his past as the cycle of vengeance continues in Afro Samurai: Resurrection. There was a time when Afro Samurai (voice of Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson) was quick to duel, but these days he prefers serenity to swordplay. Still, there are those who will never allow the retired master to live down his violent past, and when the hatred in Sio (Lucy Liu) grows too powerful to contain, she vows to teach Afro Samurai a painful lesson in humility. Mark Hamill and RZA lend their voices to director Fuminori Kizaki's bloody animated sequel. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

If you could compare the original Afro Samurai to a innovative new game, Resurrection is more of an expansion pack than a sequel. It opens up with a cliched depowering of the hero Afro and rehashes the original's plot with some twists. The quality of the animation is superb as well as the art. The music is good, but doesn't seem to be as good of an effort as the first one. Afro really doesn't go through any significant character development and by the end of the movie is right back where he was at the end of the last movie. Its fun for a rental but I regret buying it. Make sure you watch till the end of the credits for a teaser scene.

      Not what I was expecting

I loved Afro Samurai in his first DVD, thats why when Ressurection came out I went out to buy it without reading a review. Its fine that they wanted to put out more Afro because the first was a master piece, but! Ressurection dropped the ball on my expectations. The concept of having his dad come back from the dead to fight him is a great idea, but all the talking and lack of fighting made this one hard to enjoy. Ressurection has maybe 4 very short fights, and only the very first one was any good (opening). Despite being shaken up by Ressurection, I still like Afro Samurai, and hope to see a number 3. Hopefully it will be as good as the first. If your new to anime you might like this one, for the vets not so much.

Even if you haven't seen the Afro Samurai series, the movie is still a must see!! Before the movie premeared on Spike TV, I wasn't an Afro Samurai fan. I saw the movie and after about 45 minutes into it, I could tell you the whole Afro Samurai story. Samuel L Jackson, and Lucy lue did a great job at voice acting for the characters, and the soundtrack is awsome!!! The movie even hinted another season!! Gotta check this out.

      Very Mediocre

The sequel to the first Afro Samurai failed to live up to the standard set by its predecessor. I understand that the creators of this film's intention was to focus on more character development than cool fighting scenes but instead of crafting a gripping drama, they created a dull and boring sequel. The movie does showcase a few good action scenes and some excellent songs produced by the RZA, but other than that, this movies doesn't have much going for it.

Basically, I watched this after watching the director's cut of the original series, and this felt soft in comparison, and it seemed too short. The story added in some stuff that didn't exist in the first one, and stuff that just didn't make sense. It was still good during the parts with solid action, and the fight scenes it did have were pretty quick and brutal. The soundtrack in the series was also better than the movie.

I recommend seeing the first Afro Samurai before moving on to this sequel. The little girl in part one is all grown up and is seeking revenge against Afro for killing her family. Her brother is the dude in the teddy bear head who is still alive and has assembled a group of ninjas to kill Afro. It's one for the library collection. Another sequil may follow the Resurrection series.

This picks up afte the first one leaves off, Afro is still the retainer of the number 1 headband, but doesn't wear it. without ruining anymore than that he has to go out and fight for it again. If you enjoyed the first one, this si sure to please you as well. enjoy.

The one great season, well scripted and carried out anime series deserved a movie. The saga continues with more Afro Samurai, conflict, drama, comedy and action. Must have. Excellent soundtrack!
