    Synopsis

    Anastasia
The first feature from the 20th Century-Fox animation unit in Phoenix, Arizona, this is the ninth film produced and directed by the Don Bluth/Gary Goldman duo (An American Tail) and the first animated feature to be made in CinemaScope since Disney's Sleeping Beauty (1959). This $50 million animated fantasy retells the story of Anastasia, daughter of Czar Nicholas, beginning with her childhood in 1916 Russia. After Rasputin's curse on the Romanovs, little Anastasia is separated from her grandmother, the Dowager Empress Maria. After growing up in an orphanage, Anastasia emerges as a young woman called Anya. With no clear memory of her youth, Anya encounters entrepreneurs who seek an Anastasia look-alike in hopes of collecting a reward in Paris from the aged Dowager Empress. Despite demonic interference from Rasputin, the three travel to Paris where another problem awaits: the Dowager Empress is now skeptical of the parade of imposters. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

Just as Good as Disney in the 90's

Some may call me crazy, but I grew up with Disney Classics and the Disney Renaissance era. And I know them all by heart. And I enjoyed watching " Anastasia" as much as Disney Princess movies. It has a beautiful Princess, Anya. Who falls for a commoner "Prince" she once met but both don't realize they know each-other until later. Rasputin the villain is just as vile and malicious as any Disney Villain. The songs are catchy and she even has this cute little dog. Don Bluth was a Disney Animator and In my personal opinion his movies are often unsung classics. " Anastasia" , " Thumbelina" , " All Dogs Go to Heaven" and even some " Land Before Time" . My brother and I enjoyed those as much as any Disney movie. Yes Disney is the King, but Don Bluth is the Prince not too far behind in the world of animation Royalty. I actually miss the days of classic animation. Plus when you get older its a telling of a Princess who may have been the only survivor of her entire family.

This has always been one of my favorite movies. I saw it many times on VHS, so I decided to try the Bluray for great clarity. What I got was the great movie that I've always loved, but wide-screen so that it became a new and wondrous experience to see more on the left and right (VHS is formatted to fit a normal old-style TV screen). The wide-screen is awesome, as well as the audio clarity, but the extreme video clarity makes certain scenes a bit too jumpy. This was especially the case in the scene where Anya first comes into the old palace and the dancers come out of the windows. In the VHS, this is very smooth and elegant even though the dancers suddenly appear out of the windows. In this Bluray, the dancers practically explode from the windows and the smoothness is lost. So I dropped one star simply because the digital experience for this film is not quite as good as the VHS experience. But since finding a working VHS player is nearly impossible and digital is the way things are now, it is well worth it to get this movie just to be able to watch it at all, and the wide-screen is a definite plus.

This is a fantastic animated movie, and this combo pack was heavily discounted so I decided to pick it up. The movie was available on Netflix last I saw, but it won't be forever, and my only other copy of this is a VHS. I was somewhat disappointed to find that the digital copy included with this pack is not Ultraviolet and therefore harder to take on the go or download on the fly. It comes with a digital copy disc that seems to lead you through a download process from either iTunes or another path I did not take (Windows Media Player possibly?) It's in my iTunes account, which I think means I can download it on the fly still, but it's not stored with my UV/Disney library I access through the VUDU app, so it's a bit annoying to just have this one separate from all the others I own. All the same, it does work technically. This pack was affordable and it's a great movie so ultimately it was worth it still.

Anastasia is one of the best films ever made because it combines fantasy and romance in a very nice way, under the limitations of an animated picture. The film is as good today as when it first came out in the late '90s. The blu ray presentation of the film looks and sounds as good as it is suppose to. The plot still the most intriguing part of the movie as we see how this characters keep changing their priorities due to emotional conflicts. The film is a must own for every film fanatico.

This is a good movie. Too bad the digital copy isn't one that allows you to watch via your tablet. It is a digital copy that you have to transfer from your PC and will require a DVD drive. Otherwise the movie is as good as it was years ago when it was in the movie theater. Good movie with a good story line. But prefer the digital copy that you get with Disney products cause it makes easier to watch right away.

I purchased this for a Christmas gift, unfortunately it went black screen right after FBI warning. So, I gave it another shot and ordered a 2nd dvd. Again, it did not work. My daughter returned both at store and received gift card for same amount that I had paid for both including the shipping charge.

This warm and romantic film from Don Bluth and Gary Goldman has long been my favorite animated feature. This mostly fictional story of Russia's famous Anastasia and her search for her family is sprinkled with humor and great songs. The animation, from snowy Russia to glamorous Paris, is top-notch and the story is both heartwarming and fun.

Any Movie that was directed by DON BLUTH is a great one!!! Anastasia is a wonderfully animated movie that is filled with songs and enchantment. It has a Disney feel to it. It isn't one of those movies that was made just to earn a buck or two, it is a quality film with quality animation. This is a must-buy-movie! Great for the whole family!!!
