Terrific monitoring equipment with a few drawbacks

Overall a pretty good main security camera for the front section of the property, not too overly-sensitive picking up unnecessary stuff and one is able to zone-in and off areas in the camera's FOV to pick-up activities. It's super easy to setup too provided one has the right proper tools. I like how one can essentially customize so many functionalities depending on someone's living area/neighborhood aka if you live in a generally safe area then most "too-obvious-to-notice" functionalities may be turned off or limited such as the super bright floodlight (at its highest, plugged in setting) and setting it not to trigger the siren. A few drawbacks do exist as follow: 1)our camera puts out static and sometimes scratching noise when wi-fi becomes a little spotty (we live in a 2,000 sq ft house where the routers are located up on the 2nd floor) albeit recorded actions thankfully do not pick-up much of the audio distortions; Arlo customer rep said that it happens if wi-fi router is more than 20 or so ft away and/or wi-fi becomes spotty; our router is indeed about maybe 50 ft away and up on the 2nd floor; 2)the camera's design, while futuristic and almost cute cartoon character-like in appearance, proves to be a head-turner for some neighbors which means that any bad guys would probably spot it fairly easily; 3)another is that it randomly goes offline during evening hours for a few minutes, one time it happened only for it to do firmware update. More benefits do exist though beyond the above mentioned drawbacks and it's wise to invest on not-too-expensive surveillance equipment such as Arlo's. I was impressed enough that I got an Arlo Essential Spotlight Cam for our backyard and hooked it up to an Arlo solar panel for continuous hands-free power source. This floodlight camera consumes more power for obvious reasons (floodlight, 2K video, IR mode) and 100% battery lasts for about 5-7 days but it's not a problem for us as I went and bought the Arlo 25 ft mag power cord/charger and faux "hard-wired" the thing for easy charging and power management. Now managing Arlo cameras and viewing clips/streaming live feed is fairly easy and one can do it in the Arlo app which works fine and dandy and easy to understand for both the iOS and Android versions. One can also manage the cameras online using Arlo dashboard on an online computer for those not too keen on using smartphones but this comes with a warning as the Arlo dashboard online streaming function barely works half of the time which makes me feel like streaming is more optimized for mobile devices than on an actual computer. One can use an Arlo home base kit with memory card to instantly save captured moments or one can subscribe monthly to different tiers of Arlo service to manage more functionalities and temporary cloud storage for captured moments for those like me who don't like the hassle of managing a home base and memory cards. Cloud storage stores captured moments for 30 days or so and I can just go back and/or instantly save to my phone and/or computer the very important video clips within the cloud time period before they get deleted. Now people will ask...how is the picture quality? Well, it all depends yet again on the reliability/strength/distance from the wi-fi internet source and the internet traffic in the general area. For the most part, this 2K camera do not output heavily-pixelated images and images look fairly good, better than a 1080p image for sure, but won't be like in action movies where they enhance or de-enhance images down to the last visible atom in an image. For our intent and purposes, having an "eye outside" is good enough to monitor the goings-on and help with identifying persons and things if suspicious things come up. Long-term weather-related performance will be a challenge for me to know right now as we've only had this for a few weeks and also, we live in a 'burb 10 miles from the heart of downtown LA meaning this camera is in SoCal and we hardly if at all get rain over here. So far though, it's gone through the season's super heat waves and worked just fine. To conclude, this floodlight camera comes highly recommended for home-use, maybe also for small businesses on small properties/locations. Good luck on your shopping around for security cameras.

    Easy to install

Easy to sync to the Wi-Fi network and easy to configure with the arlo app. I bought a compatible solar panel because I hung it high in a tree. This is the second unit like this I’ve installed and I’m impressed with the wide picture and the quality of the picture.

    Very good floodlight

Mounting it was super easily (once I found a spot that wasn't a dead zone). Setting it up is like any other camera, very easy. The day time video quality is great. The night vision is not as good, but still pretty good; better than my essential spotlight cameras. The light is very impressive.
