Arlo hub for Homekit
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I grabbed the Arlo Hub so i could use my Arlo cameras for homekit and also attach my own 256gb flash drive to store footage instead of paying Arlo for cloud storage.
I would recommend this to a friendRated 4 out of 5 stars
If you need it, it does its job.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. Why might you buy this? -Ability to connect a hard drive for local recording -HomeKit integration -Gets all the cameras off your normal wifi which should help with speed a bit. Its annoying you need this for HomeKit, but it does what its supposed to and I don't have any complaints. I use it for HomeKit integration (streaming video, notifications, and they can be used as motion sensors), I have a HDD plugged in for redundant storage with the cloud, and it helps get 3 cameras off of my very loaded wifi. NOTE: You will need to reset every single camera and re-set them up using this.

Works for what I needed it to work with homekit.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. The only complaint I have is it did not connect at first with Apple homekit. Uninstalled and even called tech support. Finally figured it out on my own.

Much needed hub for all Arlo cameras to be synced
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Great hub for my Arlo essentials and my old Arlo cameras. I needed this hub to help integrate the Arlo essentials to my app without having them rely on their hubless option. I am grateful to get this when I was notified it was available through Best Buy.

Required if your ISP limits upload bandwidth
||Posted .The hub is in my opinion a mandatory add-on for anyone who thought any of the cameras are 100% standalone. Since none of the cameras support local storage if anything hinders the uploading of a video to the cloud you get no notification on any events. So if your Internet plan limits the upload bandwidth (as most do), once you reach that limit your camera is worse than useless at this point and silently dropping events.

New camera shouldn’t require a new hub.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Great hub but the replacement Arlo 4 camera that I bought to replace an older camera that wasn’t working required this new hub as the old one doesn’t work with it, Should be backward compatible but it’s not. I wasn’t planning to buy an new hub but was forced to in order to make the camera work.

Wireless Rules
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.I bought two Arlo essential spotlight cameras. I did not have this base. Set up was confusing, decided to purchase this item and bam!! In less than 8 mins both cameras were up and going. If you are going wireless on security cameras don't hesitate to have this quality product.

Added expense
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. These finally came back in stock after we were told they were no longer being made. Unfortunately when we bought our cameras we were told we did not need the base station for them. Well an additional cost later. It does work well.

Q: QuestionHow many Arlo essential spotlight cameras can be connected to this smarthub (VMB4540) at one time? I purchased a 4 pack of these cameras as well as a single pack, so I am looking to connect 5 cameras to this device. Thank you,
Asked by BH35.
- A:Answer For what it’s worth, I Purchased the Arlo essential spotlight camera kit, which has two cameras. I found it is useless without paying for the monthly subscription to “Arlo smart“. However the Arlo tech told me I could instead purchase the VMB 4540 which you were asking about. When I asked him how many cameras it would handle, his response was “if you purchase a hub, there is no limit on how many cameras it can handle. But one hub or base station allows up to five cameras to live stream at the same time”. I guess that’s the information you’re looking for, assuming he’s correct, you should be good to go with your 5 cameras. Good luck.

Q: QuestionWhat can I get to avoid buying a subscription, A Smart Hub or a basestation?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I’ve tried both. Without the subscription, you lose major functionality. Go buy a different system. I am so mad at myself for getting this garbage.

Q: QuestionIs this hub compatible with pro4 and arlo Q for video storage?
Asked by Chad.
- A:Answer Yes, it compatible with Arlo Pro 4 to utilize local storage feature. However, it does not work with Arlo Q camera, as it only connects directly to one's wifi network. ^RM

Q: QuestionI have 8 of the original arlo cameras. will this hub support all my cameras? I am not interested in live streaming all my cameras at the same time. what is the maximum amount of cameras that this hub will support?
Asked by mrzeus.
- A:Answer Yes, it is compatible. Check out this Knowledge Base article for more information: https://kb.arlo.com/000062284. You can stream up to a theoretical maximum of 15 Arlo cameras at the same time, but this is dependent on your system set up and your Arlo Smart plan. Additionally, you might not be able to stream from all five cameras per SmartHub or base station if your WiFi network has limited bandwidth or if you are uploading other files while Arlo is streaming.

Q: QuestionWhat size USB drive is the minimum you can connect to the Arlo pro smart hub Model:VMB4540-100NAS ? How does this model connect to home router ,wireless wifi or Ethernet cable ? Thank you.
Asked by VMB4000Buyer.
- A:Answer I don't know minimum size usb, I would guess it would depend on what setting you have system recording. Is it on all day, or on a schedule, what sensitivity are cameras set at ect. We use an Orbi system for wifi, works great.
