Incredible
||Posted .I have tried a lot of different wireless routers ranging from Linksys to Netgear and not been completely satisfied with any of them. Yes the price is high but as always you end up getting what you pay for. Doing a speed test wirelessly over my iPhone 6 I am maxing out my comcast connection at 18ms ping, 59.6 Mbs download and 11.94 Mbs upload. I tried a speed test on my computer and was getting the same range of speeds with a little bit lower ping. No more having to constantly reset my router, no more messing with the modem every week. Internet that's fast and there when I want to use it. I even had a few issues with my ISP changing my IP so I was easily able to make a clone of my MAC address on this router to get my Internet to work until Comcast get here to fix the signal connection issues I was having for good. The features speak for themselves but you can read all of them on the website but my favorite is the prioritizing speeds and how nice the HUD is and the ease of use. I get service not just throughout the house but outside and around the entire property (0.25 acre lot) and even into the neighbors relatively good. I do catch signal but not a very good connection at the end of my street (550ft). I highly recommend getting this router because nothing comes close.

Best router I've used
||Posted .I recently switched to fiber optic Internet and needed a new router. This one had good reviews and looked like what I wanted. It's been far better than I expected so far. The wifi range is amazing. I use it with my phone when visiting my neighbor across the street. In the rural area where I live that's an impressive distance. If you play games or host servers that require you to port forward this router is the easiest I've seen. If there is one thing that would be a problem for some people it would be the size. It's quite slim but can't be stood on edge. The "footprint" is rather large so take that into consideration if space is an issue. It's worth making room for if you can. I love it. I've included a screen shot of a speed test using my Galaxy S5 from the neighbor's house.

This thing is INCREDIBLE!
||Posted .My previous set up was a R6250 from netgear and in order to get wifi in my garage ( router was in back corner of the house in my basement about 125' away) with my old router i had to use a high end range extender to overcome the range constraints due to the amount of obstructions. Even then the connection was spotty at best. It was around 800kbps of download speed ( i have a 100 mbps service) with this new router i ditched the range extender and still have better signal strength ( 60% vs the 40% with the old set up.) and am now downloading at 33mbps! And to top it off this thing looks amazing!

This router is phenomenal!
||Posted .This router is phenomenal! Let me preface this with I was looking for a router with range and speed. We stream a lot of movies in our 1500 sq. ft. home over dlna. We live in a rather large apartment complex with over 20 networks. To say the channels are congested would be an understatement. Suffice it to say many times our movies would drop or would spend time buffering, especially in our back bedroom. Queue the stealth bomber known as the Asus rt-ac87r. I couldn't decide between the nighthawk r7000 (the r8000 is basically the same with an extra 5ghz antenna) or this model. The reviews were too wishy washy on either, so I decided to buy both and keep the best one. Here are my results using the android app "WiFi Analyzer." I measured everywhere but to keep a simple comparison, I will just use my measurements from our back bedroom (where our WiFi signal was the worst). Nighthawk: -60dbm Asus rt-ac87r: -48dbm As you can see the Nighthawk went back. The range of the Asus without question is far superior to the nighthawk. No disrespect to the nighthawk as the processor in that is basically the same and at $50 cheaper it will I'm sure be sufficient for most people, like my IT friend who just got it a week ago. But if you're looking for much more than sufficient in range and speed, this is the router for you. Pros: -Range range range (this is clearly the best in class for this). We are still getting a signal half a block away. -Processor is basically it's own computer -Mu-mimo ready -Much better GUI than Nighthawk (including nighthawks mobile genie app) -Most features I've seen on a router Cons: -Expensive (but worth it if like us, you are sick of your neighbors WiFi contesting your signal) Since we've had this router, not a single reboot, dropped signal or anything. The difference in strength between the 2.4 and 5ghz channels are negligible. We are using the stock firmware. I think all the bad reviews on here are for previous firmware versions which Asus has since worked out. If you are deciding which to get and need range and speed this is the new Cadillac. If you are looking for a fast but more budget friendly router, I'm sure the 2013 nighthawk will suffice. Just know that you will be denying your neighbors the displeasure of your 3 times stronger signal in their living room. If you truly are concerned about longevity as some on here have expressed, just get the 3 year insurance for $20 (not a bad investment when you're dropping this much money anyways). Otherwise, I can't praise this router enough in its current generation.

Better than pre-release reviews touted
||Posted .This is a rock solid performer that is simple to setup. I've been plagued with connection issues due to a half dozen 5 Ghz routers located to close for comfort and inferior routers I should never have purchased. Zoom (J u n k), Netgear (AC1900 plagued with bugs), D-Link (their best is average at best), and Linksys (children’s-toys, all of them. Shame on Cisco). But this router is fast-fast-fast. Simple setup. A lot of tweaking capabilities. Up to 6 guest net's available, fantastic logging, excellent firewall capabilities with very good reporting and notification functionality. I do wish the built in software provided a slightly better network map but don't get me wrong it is still light-years ahead of any of the AC1900's I've road tested and definitely far superior in its rock-solid connection abilities for clients over the Linksys Nighthawk 6. Asus has never failed to amaze me with their products and this one is no exception. The build quality is perfect. Fit and finish, fantastic. Supplied accessories (cable, AC adapter) are very high quality. Not your typical c –r -a –p –p -y wall-wart but a true adapter supplied with a high quality 3-prong grounded figure-8 power cord (thick and solid) to attach to the very well built and designed AC converter. Just a pleasure working with Asus products as always. I would have paid $100.00 more for this device but it is perfectly priced as is.

Works great, bit of a learning curve, worth the $$
||Posted .PRO: Onboard software is superb. Cooling slots are arranged so as to keep the system from overheating in a typical office environment. The antennas are very adjustable. If you are willing to spend some time learning the device, it is very robust and can do just about anything you ask. We stream Hulu+ to an old Wii in our break room, run Smart TV's, DirecTV DVR, run multiple iOS devices (of multiple generations and versions), multiple and variously branded laptops and desktops, NAS, printer, scanners, etc., all at the same time, 20 out of 24-hrs/day. There are many competing WiFi routers within a 500-yd radius, thus lots of potential interference. The ASUS AC-2400 router handles all of it without any problems and no discernible degradation of performance. Every device appears to get it's maximum bandwidth all of the time. All you have to do is you put in the time to learn what the software settings mean and do. The admin can adjust just about everything in software -- which is good, and bad. Yes, the admin can set things up "just so", but they can also break their network. I have people trading in the markets day and night, doing books, surfing the web, streaming video, etc., all day long and it handles everyone without a hitch. The maximum number of simultaneous connections (> than 350K) is way beyond my needs. The price of this piece takes it out of the hands of most casual users, but we run a business using it. For us there is no business without reliable connectivity, so the price becomes secondary. Tech support is good -- but their phone lines are often garbled and you have to be OK with speaking to people who are engineers, but have heavy Asian accents. Example: I have 60Gbps+ service coming in. ISP's will all tell you to expect degradation if speed is measured at the end user off of WiFi. Working with an ASUS Tech, I was able to achieve full flow-through of incoming speed all the way down to the WiFi client 1-floor up and 80' away through walls. Speedtest.net ran on the client on WiFi produced the same results as when run directly hardwired into the modem before it ever got to the router, much less passed through and was broadcast out on WiFi. CON: Expensive. Fairly steep learning curve. Setup can entail lots of trial-and-error to maximize throughput up and down. Help files are not as complete nor clear as they should be. Tech Support heavily accented, which could be a problem for some. SUMMARY: I bought this router to replace a Linksys 2400 v1 that was dying. I've used Linksys routers for many years. Change was difficult; I was loyal. I read lots of reviews before deciding to try this device, and I'm glad I took the plunge. This router is overkill if all you have are legacy devices. If you have a mixed network (mine has b/g/n/ac clients) with more modern clients (n/ac) or everything is all new, this router is a great! NOTE: best Buy's price on this router is competitive, but Amazon had it for $15 less, which BB honored. Yea for Best Buy!

Excellent router. Worthy upgrade.
||Posted .I upgraded from a NetGear Dual Band router I got back in 09. I'm a big gamer and have a lot of devices (roughly 15) in my home. Over the past few years, the more devices I got, the more frequent I would get connection drops, REGARDLESS of all the tweaks/fixes I performed. My home is 1979 sq ft so in terms of range it may be overkill but I see it as future proofing for a while since I may get a bigger home down the road. The router interface is very nice and simple for anyone to use and navigate through. The fact that this has detachable, movable antennas is a big plus since my previous router had them integrated which created almost a dead zone when in my pool or garage. Con: A friendly tip to anyone who has performance issues on the 5GHz band (like me), I found the problem and have fixed it. On the 5GHz band if you have any Wireless-N native devices (instead of Wireless-AC), you may have to change the mode from Auto to N-Only. Per the manual, Wireless-N native devices will only get about 54Mbps when it's on Auto (which I think it's stupid and probably my only con about this device). Also it's a bit pricey so I hope it drops in price over time, but as the saying goes, "You get what you pay for".

Outperforms other wireless routers
||Posted .My house is not gigantic at 2800 SF, but every router before this one could not provide good coverage in all areas of my home. Granted there are numerous walls (some concrete block) that must be passed through to reach all the corners of the house and the front porch. But the Asus - Extreme Wireless-AC2400 Dual-Band Gigabit Router covers everywhere from the front yard to the back yard and every room of the house. No more drops on Netflix like all of my prior routers. I almost did not buy it because of the price, but am I ever glad that I pulled the trigger. If it had not performed, I was looking at installing 1 to 2 repeaters but thank goodness it solved all my coverage problems.

Q: QuestionHow many TVs will this router support with a fiber optic feed
Asked by Ed.
- A:Answer There is no limitation to how many wireless devices a router will support, just the quality of the signal coming from it. It is the first 4x4 on the market so it will do the work. Could always bridge the router to increase.
