  • Q: Conflicting Info on Adobe Flash Compatibility (6 answers)

A: Straight to answering your question, the tablet can play videos from YouTube and can even do video services such as Comcast On-Demand and Vudu. That being said, technically the device is not compatible with Adobe Flash-Player. Internet browsers offer little applications known as plug-ins, that are capable of running the video's code right inside of the window that you are using to get to the page. This is an advantage of using a device that has a real operating system versus a "baby" version. Please keep in mind that internet browsers for many tablets, that use an Operating System that has been "reduced" from its true version, may not be able to do this or they have special programming codes that allow the to imitate this feature, but that special programming code may not be kept upto date as well as full featured browsers that you have on your computer. Bigger companies such as Samsung do a good job managing specialty codes inside of their products, but if anything happens to the company of the brand of the device you buy, you might be out of luck for some of the reasons you bought the tablet. Final thought: The hardware was not designed to run applications and background services for Adobe's Flash-Player, as there was no need in the extra hardware and overhead needed to run a program designed for an entirely different type of device. This is how tablets can be as efficient as their bigger counter-parts for many commonly used applications and services. The full Adobe Flash-Player software package, that is not compatible, is also used for software that runs within the computer (not being fed in from the internet ). I hope that I was able to put a little bit of light on a subject that is a little bit of a ploy in advertising.
  • Q: How long is the charge time? (7 answers)

A: 2.) WiFi = Good - NOT necessarily GREAT, but certainly always very adequate in most EVERY setting with WiFi available. May be able to be set up to function as a competent WiFi "HotSpot" with available apps. 1.) DO NOT SKIP THE #1 INSTRUCTION IN THE "Quick Start Guide" ... Charge this computer (KEYBOARD DOCK ATTACHED ... It has a battery too) for at least 8 hours (but no more than 12 hours) ... BEFORE INITIAL USE(!!!). ... - Plan on AT LEAST 8 to 10 FULL charge/discharge cycles (of the "whole" computer) before starting to "short" charge it for expediency. When these batteries have been "broken in" properly, a full charge should take between 4 and 5 hours. A full discharge cycle should yield between 8 and 9 hours of operation, depending on external device operation and video processing demand and output intensity - Keep your display brightness as low as you can stand it to help extend battery charge duration. When I said "Plan on at least 8 to 10 FULL charge/discharge cycles" I might have explained more thoroughly by saying: Charge the device fully, until the power light changes from orange to bright blue (again, generally between 4 and 5 hours) and then unplug and detach the power adapter charger. The next time you turn on this ASUS 2-in-1 notebook computer and get "logged in" go immediately to check the battery meter reading: It should read 99 or maybe even 100% still, if you're fairly quick to get to the meter check. From this moment on you have another 94 to 95% of the batteries operating time left (between 8 and 9 hours from my current experience). The "computer" WILL shut itself down by the time it gets to 5% of battery capacity left (unless you have changed the "power management" ("profile") software settings). Repeat this FULL 5 (+/-) hours charging and 9 (+/-) hours discharging (100 to 5%) without the power adapter attached, AT LEAST 5 to 8 times in a row (10 to 15 times optimally). This WILL help to prevent the Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries from developing a "memory" that will NOT allow them to be fully charged in the future. Just like the old Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries, these Li-ion re-chargeable batteries can become partially (or fully) chemically inert and will no longer hold a full (or any) charge. FULLY "CYCLING" (charging/discharging) a brand new re-chargeable battery (in any device so equipped) helps to ensure that the chemical compounds in the battery will not become "inert" (partially or fully) in the future! Most Li-ion re-chageable battery packs currently made for computers should be able to provide between 350 to 500 FULL charge/discharge cycles before they are degraded to no longer holding a "full" charge because they do become chemically inert over time, no matter how careful you are about your charging habits. MOST IMPORTANTLY ... How you charge and discharge your new Li-ion battery (especially when it cannot be changed without sending the whole device back for "factory" service) for its first through its tenth "cycles" determine how long it will last and how much charge it will hold for its remaining lifetime of 340 to 490 remaining charges. - I'm STILL fully "cycling" my cell phone's batteries nearly two years after its purchase ... I can leave my phone on for NO LESS THAN 7 to 8 DAYS before it finally turns itself off because the battery is fully run down! - I hope this adds further clarification to my review of 5-14-15 for ALL the rest of y'all! - Spock
  • Q: Can you use an external dvd drive to watch movies? If so is there a specific type extrnal drive to use? (6 answers)

A: Yes! Pretty much any USB 2.0 external DVD-ROM/DVD+RW drive will work with this ASUS 2-in-1 notebook, whether or not it is separately powered or not. (NOTE: I have no idea about attaching an external Blu-ray player, but I believe it can be done as well.) HOWEVER, you are probably going to have to pay for a decent software package that will display/play the DVD content. I've been looking for a "free" "app" at the Microsoft store for several weeks and haven't found one worth downloading yet. ... Read "app" reviews carefully before trying to download any "app": Risks of mal/spy-ware being attached to your selected "app" ABOUND!
  • Q: how do you obtain an owners manual with operating instructions (5 answers)

A: It's only on the computer itself. The easiest way is to click on the desktop. In the bottom left of the screen (where the start menu usually is on MS systems) there is an icon that looks like a large pad of paper. Click on that; it's the owner's manual.
