A: I can't answer the latter part of your question, but it is not very stable once loaded with DVD's. I would definitely recommend utilizing the strap, especially if you have pets or small children.

A: the height is close to five feet-at lease four and a half the width is about three feet be prepared to spend days assembling this-I gave up on the second try-it is almost impossible to level the shelves I do not recommend this product. I could not return it-just threw it out.

A: I didn’t use one shelf for CDs and put tall magazine boxes on the bottom. But I have just over 300 cds on the shelves. This rack could easily hold another 50-70 cds if all the shelves were used.
