    Synopsis

    Attack the Block
A group of London teens find themselves in the middle of an alien invasion and fight to defend their tower block from some evil extraterrestrials in this stylish sci-fi romp from the producers of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Beset by a gang of young thugs as she passes through a South London housing estate, Sam (Jodie Whittaker) is in the midst of being robbed when a ball of light falls out of the sky, and destroys a nearby car. Frightened, she flees from the scene just before an unearthly beast emerges from the wreckage and attacks Moses (John Boyega), the leader of the youthful gang. In retaliation, Moses and his crew slay the creature, and take it to a local drug den owned by ruthless gangster Hi-Hatz (Jumayn Hunter) for safe keeping. Later, as the police assist Sam in pursuing her assailants, strange lights start to rain down on the streets, heralding the arrival of a second, more ferocious, wave of creatures. With the city under siege, there's no place left to run. Quickly realizing she's going to have to fight if she wants to survive, Sam once again crosses paths with the street-tough teens, but instead of running away vows to battle alongside them to the bitter end. Meanwhile, Moses becomes the primary target of the aliens, and the group arms themselves with everything from baseball bats to high-powered fireworks in the fight to save the human race. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Edgar Wright is one of the best directors of modern films; a master of comedy, action and all around terrific and exciting filmmaker. Attack the Block is not a Wright film, with Joe Cornish actually directing, who is best known for writing Little Britain and appearing in Hot Fuzz & Shawn of the Dead (Wright exec. produces this film), and for the life of me it could very well be Wright's film and thats a great thing. This film is about a group of impoverished South Londoners who live in government housing whose "block" have been invaded by aliens and must team up to prevent them from taking over the world. Fast, funny, tightly paced (88 minutes long!) and a great debut from first-timer Cornish and is not only a must watch, but a must buy! The PQ and AQ on the Blu Ray is fantastic, with the film retaining its 35mm sheen and grain, and having fantastic detail and shadow detail (Mostly a dark film) and the audio having a major field day with its varied soundfield of explosions, directional effects and spot on dialogue levels. The extras though, are fantastic and worth the price alone, which is very cheap nowadays. Starting off are 3 (!) commentaries by a mix of various cast & crew members that almost never overlap information, are full of interesting anecdotes and are absolute must listens. Also of note is a 101 minute making-of documentary which is longer than the film itself and filled with comprehensive info about casting choices, film locations, and some nice raw behind the scenes. Also included are four feauturettes, trailers and BD-Live functionality. At the price the Blu Ray is at BBY, $9.99 its worth it by itself, but the Savestation sales are the best to grab this modern, overlooked classic. Must buy all the way!!!!!

I bought this Blu-ray on a whim. It was down to $10 and I had a $5 gift card so I figured, " Hey, why not?" It had been out for a few years by this point and I had heard that this was one of the underrated gems of the horror / comedy genre. The film certainly has it's strengths. It's an original story featuring original characters (which almost seems rare these days) and the boys do an excellent job at making you believe they have all grown up together in the same block for years. The aliens are unique and the action isn't too bad. It simply boils down to a fun, entertaining movie. Unfortunately, the film was hyped up, at least to me, a bit too much and didn't quite meet the expectations I had set. Not a fault of the film in any, which I did through enjoy, but I probably would have liked it more had I not heard anything about it beforehand. I would recommend this Blu-ray, especially at the $7-10 price range. It looked good and sounded good and had some fun special features and behind the scenes stuff that I still haven't yet fully gone through. The film is entertaining enough to warrant multiple viewings so that's a winner in my book.

Capturing some of the late 70s and 80s themes of children faced with monsters or aliens & having to deal with the new enemy or friend without belief or help from the grown-ups, ATTACK sets us up in a British slum with some not-so-cute thug kids accidentally bringing about a vindictive alien invasion. Led by STAR WARS VII co-star John Boyega (in his first cinematic role), the kids spout infectious slang while navigating cops, drug dealers and strange, toothy, fur-covered aliens by the meteor load. I don't think any wheels are reinvented here, but the story is fast-paced & feels both celebratory & fresh. Believe.

I had no idea what to expect going in, and to be honest, I'm glad. I got this as apart of a "3 blu rays for X amount of dollars" sale that Best Buy has from time to time, and this just sounded interesting from what I read on the back of the case. Funny, great action, and overall very entertaining. You get to see John Boyega(now known as Finn from Star Wars) in a really different kind of role. Worth checking out for sure!

On the surface, this movie should suck. It's essentially a stoner alien invasion comedy set in London... and it's a wild ride! Attack the Block is a rare breed of film that is hilarious, but also has genuinely scary moments. The aliens are pretty cool and not campy looking, and the young actors in the film are funny and heroic. If you're a fan of horror-comedies, this is a must-watch!

Attack the block is a great movie. one of the best sci/ horror alien invasion movies to come about in years. Its about a group of teen thugs in the UK trapped in an apartment complex while being perused by "big alien gorilla wolf mother f**kers" the story is solid the character development is good the special effects are good. the alien is a very simple but original design that looks amazing.

This is a must see for any sci-fi or alien movie fan. Has a solid cast, I liked to plot, sound was perfect and set the tone, and the effects are great. The extras are really amazing to watch after you've seen the movie. Blu-ray quality was great as always, and the extra features will keep you busy for days. I wish more people knew about this movie.

I saw this movie after reading a few indie reviews, and loved it! The reviews were not kidding. This movie is definately a sleeper. Check it out! It's one that, I feel, is great for teens and adults. Everyone will get some enjoyment out of it. It's awesome to see a GOOD creature feature with some old school effects. Enjoy!
