A: I love these, and I love the A2AC cables. They make a perfect connection, and there are many upgraded cords available for these, by several manufacturers. So, it's not like you have to order them from the company, or anything. If one goes bad. Don't let the a2ac turn you off to these headphones. These sound so much better than they should, for the price point, imo. ESPECIALLY through a balanced dac/amp. But also sound great right off the headphone jack on my desktop. As the dac was bought much later.
A: An amplifier is not required but a good one could possibly enhance the sound further. They headphones should work fine connected to the headphone jack on a pc.
Q: How does this model compare with ath-msr7gm? Can cable be swapped out for a 16 foot cable? Thanks.
A: The cable type has been changed from the typical single 3.5 mm stereo (3-pole) male plug type at the headphones to our independent left / right A2DC detachable coaxial connectors type. Two cables are provided with the MSR7b Headphone, one with a standard 3.5 mm stereo (3-pole) plug and another with a 4.4 mm 5-pole plug for connection to devices having a 4.4 mm balanced headphone jack. Both cables are 4 feet in length. We do not make a longer cable that uses A2DC type connectors. You would have to add an extension cable to the cable with the 3.5 mm stereo (3-pole) male plug at the device end to extend the length of the provided cable.

The HD 600 is the audio purist’s choice for reference playback. An instrument of Sennheiser’s passion for perfect sound, it is globally recognised as the standard for analytical high-fidelity listening - even 20-plus years after its release. The foundation of the extraordinarily clear sound of the HD 600 is its’ open acoustic design and the revolutionary transducer, which has been computer-optimized to reduce partial vibrations, which are responsible for a multitude of distortions.

The open back HD 599 delivers impressively natural spatial performance. Topping Sennheiser's 500 series, the full sized premium headphone offers near-audiophile levels of sound quality and exceptional wearing comfort thanks to the large ear cups and soft replaceable ear pads.

The closed HD 569 with around ear design brings a flexible option to the Home entertainment space. It provides a rich and clear bass, adding further flexibility by making it possible to enjoy the full personal experience without disturbing others.

The Audio-Technica ATH MSR7b's are an excellent set of headphones, which are very light and comfortable to wear, even when going for a walk w/a portable player, such as a cell phone or digital player. They are available in either Black, or in what is called, Gunmetal. They are an over the ear and closed back headphone, which are strictly wired, "w/no wireless or noise reduction features". The problem w/wireless, and/or noise reduction, they require batteries or will need to be recharged. Also too, the quality of the music out of them, is not as good as w/a wired head set. You do loose something w/those features when it comes to music quality. The ATH MSR7b's have an excellent Frequency Response range from 5 - 50,000 Hz, w/an Impedance of a low 36 Ohm, which is low enough to play w/a portable player. They come w/a pair of detachable 4' cords, w/a 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm plug, also allowing for easy replacement, There are aftermarket cables available. I would say that these are an Audiophile level headphone vs. Studio, and while I may think the music quality out of them is great, especially when it comes to classical, as well as mild rock, but then again, everyone's hearing and music tastes are different. When you listen to them, truly listen for the individual instruments.

Sennheiser Lover for so long but thought I would give AT a try. Comfort = 10. No sweat. Looks = 10. Very sharp looking. Cool red trim and quality build. Sound = Clean. Good base but no pumped. Tight. Clear. Give them a shot. I love them.

I really like how comfortable these are, even after over an hour of usage. They are lightweight, have a great color scheme. The cable to the headphones is detachable, which makes storage easier. I use these to listen to YouTube and play games as opposed to listening to music.
