    Synopsis

    Bambi
The classic Felix Salter story Bambi provides the basis for this near-perfect Disney animated feature. We follow the male deer Bambi from birth, through his early childhood experiences with woodland pals Thumper the rabbit and Flower the skunk, the traumatic sudden death of Bambi's mother at the hands of hunters, his courtship of the lovely doe Faline, and his rescue of his friends during a raging forest fire; we last see the mature, antlered Bambi assuming his proper place as the Prince of the Forest. In the grand Disney tradition, Bambi is brimming with unforgettable sequences, notably the young deer's attempts to negotiate an iced-over pond, and most especially the death of Bambi's mother--and if this moment doesn't move you to tears, you're made of stone (many subsequent Disney films, including Lion King, have tried, most in vain, to match the horror and pathos of this one scene). The score in Bambi yielded no hits along the lines of "Whistle While You Work", but the songs are adroitly integrated into the action. Bambi was the last of the "classic" early Disney features before the studio went into a decade-long doldrums of disjointed animated pastiches like Make Mine Music. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The Prince is Brought to Blu Ray

I am a huge Disney Historian, and love everything about Disney, and bambi is one of the crowning achevments in Disney. bambi comes to blu ray in full 1080p, and 7.1 master audio, i must warn people this is not lossless audio. the picture is pristine and awe inspiring of how perfect it looks for being almost 70 years old, the colors and fine detail are great, from the expressions on thumpers face to the boldness in bambi. what stood out to me the most is the Backgrounds, they are so simple yet they feel to be the most detailed, they let youre mind create a full lush forest with the most simple of lines. and now bambi comes with great audio, the songs are great and crystal clear, and the gunshots of MAN echo through the forests, this is not lossless audio so it is a little dissapointing, but i didnt notice it as i was lost in the amzing world of bambi. what made bambi so good though, was how simpe it was yet it was so impactful, kind of like a poem. the movie as a whole has less than a thousand words, but i feel it made it better that way, and this movie has one of the best movie villains around, "MAN" is a threat they all fear yet you never see them, but you feel their impact, the movie has amazing music running through it the whole way through except for 18 seconds that is dead silence , that makes your spine tingle. Bambi is truly a prince on blu ray and comes highly recommended for all ages from 1 year to 100 it still has the same impact. while most mvies are seen and forgotten bambi is a movie that you will never forget ! but the special features are the one thing i found dissapointing, they are short and fiew, their is more features in the dvd features that have been ported over, very dissapointing to me, since disney usually has hours of features. but that should not stop you from buying this american masterpiece !!!!

If you haven't seen this Disney classic, you're probably living under a rock. It's essentially a tale about growing up and perseverance in the face of adversity told through the lens of a young buck named Bambi. In terms of the transfer, this blu-ray disc is actually the same transfer as the Diamond Edition from a few years back. Short of any possible future 4k UHD release, this is still the best this movie could ever look on home video. This 1080p disc extracts every last nuance of hand-brushed detail that the 1080p blu-ray format can muster. The colors are vibrant, yet natural. Detail is pristine and is only limited by the sometimes intentionally soft look of certain scenes. If you have a 4k TV, the upscaled image is a real treat. The available Disneyview panels that fill the ugly 4:3 ratio vertical black bars are super-tasteful and are perfectly matched to their respective scenes. As for the sound, the 7.1 DTS-HDMA is surprisingly full and engaging, especially considering its age. Bass is quite solid and the rear channels are quite active, with considerably more left/right and rear channel activity than Pinocchio or Snow White which are much more center-channel-heavy tracks (understandable considering they were from 1937 and 1939, respectively. Fantasia - also from '39 - of course had it's very own special 'surround sound' process). If you didn't pick this up when it was first released on blu-ray a few years back, you owe it to yourself to do so right now!

I mean, it's a classic. You can't go wrong with Bambi. Regarding bonus features (if it matters to you): I cannot compare THIS release to the original blu ray release because I do not have the original. But I will compare it to the DVD release. Not including unnecessary features like games and activities, the DVD had "Restoring Bambi," "The Legacy Continues: Sneak Peek at New Bambi," "Disney Time Capsule: 1942 - Year of Bambi" and "The Art of Bambi." None of the features I just mentioned appear on THIS blu ray release. The blu ray has all the other DVD features and a few features not on the DVD release: "Studio Stories: Bambi," "2 new deleted scenes" and "The Golden Age." One of the features was done differently, "Bambi: Inside Walt's Story Meetings," which by the way is a very cool feature! On the DVD it is under Bonus Features, Patrick Stewart gives an intro, and they embed it in the movie (pic in pic) a little differently. On THIS blu ray release, you have to click on "play" to play the movie, which then gives you three play options: The regular movie, some weird version of the movie with an artist's art on the side (like side black bars), and then the embedded story meetings; but these story meetings has no Patrick Stewart intro. Overall, still a good blu ray release and great classic movie.

Who does not love this film? Nearly 70 years old, the film is still great and beautiful. Film makers of today can take note of actually having a story for the animated animal characters instead of just moving the place they are in. Thumper is my favorite character of the film. The memorable scenes, the spoiler scene, Thumper and Bambi on the ice. The characters As for the DVD package. I have made this remark now with the 2009 Snow White and 2010 Beauty and the Beast reissues on DVD. The pushing of blu/ray the newer MORE EXPENSIVE format I hope back fires on Disney. With this Bambi release, as they did with the Snow White and Beauty and the Beast issues DISNEY RELEASED THE BLU/RAY MORE THAN A MONTH BEFORE THE REGULAR DVD PACKAGE. I can NOT afford blu/ray, I really can NOT afford this package BUT I came up with the money. Pushing 1 format over the older & still works format is a huge mistake Disney. To learn your lesson, I hope sales were hurt. Just like Disney Rewards ONLY GIVING COUPONS FOR BLU/RAY. Good extras in the package. Normal one, we have seen these type before. I do enjoy Making Of segments. Any fan of the film will enjoy this DVD package AFTER YOU GET OVER DISNEY & HOW THEY ARE RELEASING OR RE-RELEASING SOME OF THEIR FILMS. 5 rating for the film NOT for how Disney re-released it to DVD.

Bambi is one of the greatest animated features of all time. The story, the animation, the music, and the characters, especially Thumper, are all outstanding. This 75 year old film stands the test of time and is essential viewing for film fans, animation fans, and casual viewers. The Blu-ray combo pack of this Walt Disney Signature Collection release contains almost all of the bonus features from the original Diamond Collection Blu-ray and adds even more new features. Additionally, a collectible lithograph from Disney artist Tyrus Wong is included in the package. The video and audio are great, although it does retain the DTS-HR audio track from the Diamond Edition. On the other hand, the original RKO title card missing from the Diamond Edition has been restored in this version. This film should be passed down to every new generation. With a wealth of bonus features and great A/V, this timeless classic is a must own.

Bambi is a classic! It is a story that touches both the hearts of young and old. It's purity and simplicity make it a wonderful achievement. It also has a great story and characters! I am very glad to sit my two and a half year old down and let her watch this movie. In today's society, there are not many movies that you can say this about. The noise and effects of newer movies out weigh the story and character connection. What happened to movies being made that speak of goodness? I know they still exist but they are becoming very few. Bambi is a movie full of light and goodness that I look very much forward to owning on blu-ray!

This is a re-released blu-ray of Bambi for The Walt Disney Signature Collection, which was previously released by Disney for the Diamond Edition. Plain blue disc art for the blu-ray (while the Diamond Edition blu-ray had disc art), but this newly re-released version does contain new bonus features that were not included in the previous Diamond Edition release. Picture and audio quality are excellent. The only difference between the Best Buy exclusive and the standard blu-ray release is that the Best Buy exclusive comes with a lenticular slipcover (the artwork for the blu-ray case is the same as the standard slipcover artwork). All of these blu-rays come with a collectible Tyrus Wong lithograph inside.

Once again Best buy has by far been the best place for me to buy my Disney movies from. The movies are classics but the exclusive slipcover makes the appearance so much better. The prices are great and the customer service is amazing. I will only be buying my Disney movies from best buy from now on since this is the 4th time I have ordered from them and each time the exclusive slipcovers and cases are so much prettier then anywhere else so unless the normal cardboard slipcover is the only thing available I will pre order from best buy every time. Movie is great, prices are great and customer service is great. i cant think of a single negative thing to say about the products and store in general A+++
