    Synopsis

    Battle Royale II
    Battle Royale
In a future where society is on the verge of collapse, the government takes drastic action against the problem of rebellious teenagers in this violent sci-fi opus from Japan. In the year 2002, Japan's economy has taken a dramatic turn for the worse, and massive unemployment and inflation have thrown most adults into a state of chaos; the nation's youth culture responds with unprecedented violence, delinquency, and truancy. Desperate to restore order, the Japanese parliament responds by creating the Millennial Reform School Act, in which groups of junior high students are selected at random, sent to an isolated island, and forced to play a rigorous war game, in which all but one of their number are killed. Kitano (Beat Takeshi) is an embittered school instructor who guides the 44 students of the Zentsuji Middle School's Class B through the deadly game known as "Battle Royale," as they struggle to survive against the elements and each other. Battle Royale proved to be both successful and highly controversial in Japan, where it set box-office records and prompted political leaders to call for stricter controls on violence in Japanese entertainment; the film was initially rated R-15 (no one under 15 admitted), unusual for violent films in Japan, though director Kinji Fukasaku later prepared a re-edited version that earned a more lenient classification. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

By far, "Battle Royale" is one of the best movies you will ever see! Though it differs from the novel, it is still good in it's own right. If you have not seen this, the simple description of the movie does not seem like much: kids being forced, by their government, to kill each other off. However, the movie is not just about senseless killings; there is a lot of character development going on. You get to know who these characters are and what they are about. To me, that's what really makes a movie. I should not need to say much more, as you probably have searched about this on the internet already. With that being said, I do have to down-rate this due to this particular Anchor Bay release. The supposed "Director's Cut" is not a true "Director's Cut". The additional scenes were filmed after the movie's initial release, to capitalize on the film's success. This Anchor Bay release is also not the true "Special Version" (as it is properly called). This release was actually re-edited, using scenes from the original theatrical release, because Anchor Bay did not want to deal with some of the color corrections the "Special Version" required. - This "Directors Cut" is the first release to feature an English dub version. Though, the only way to see subtitles for the written Japanese text is to turn on the entire movie's subtitle track, which do not match up with everything spoken in English. - The inclusion of "Battle Royale 2" is also a new addition, being the first Blu-Ray release. However, there is a greatly extended version of this movie that is nonexistent in this set, despite calling itself a "Complete Collection". - Despite a bonus features disc, very few features are offered. There are hours of behind the scenes features out there that are nowhere to be found in this Anchor Bay release. If it is easier and cheaper for you to get this version, then, by all means, get it. Otherwise, I would recommend looking for another country's release, as no one else tinkered with it.

      BEST BLURAY/DVD COMBO VALUE EVER

This is a great movie, as well as the first. It is almost the same price as the origonal is alone. In this you get the origonal, the sequel, & the extras. This is very violent & creative movies. Quinton Tarentino style. It is not for children or people that feel sick at gory wounds/deaths. This is also not in English so you may have to read. BUT this is the best value Ive ever seen for content vs price. There are two blue ray movies, and dvd copy. Then there is the special commentary extras, filled with many content you will want to watch. It doesnt have the bs filler you see in most extras. If you think you like action or horror, you will love this!
