BioMutant Rocks!!...
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.BoiMutant Rocks! Amazingly fun to play in a stunningly beautiful open environment...Controls are easy to master and intuitive without really the need for a tutorial to pick up quickly. I hate it when a game begins with an impossible must earn the right to play beginning, THIS GAME DOESN'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH ONE OF THOSE "NOW I HATE THIS GAME" ENTRY STEP BY A "YOU MUST EARN MY RESPECT TO PLAY MY GAME, CAUSE I'M A PROGRAMMER SUPER-GENIUS..." Get This Game!!!

Needs time to improve. Wait to buy it.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I preordered this game because I found it really interesting. I don't regret it necessarily, because I did get some enjoyment out of it, but I would highly recommend that anybody interested in this game wait a bit before purchasing. I'm going to be really detailed in this review, because there's a lot to unpack, and you should know as much as possible before coming to a decision. Visuals: Beautiful. The colors are vivid, the characters and environments are great looking (for the most part), and I can't really complain too much about the way the graphics look. The only thing is that the fur on the characters and animals look a little weird, like... a bunch of tiny, colored "+" signs linked together. You won't notice until you get close to a character or a cutscene makes it more apparent. Overall, yeah, visuals are good. User Interface: The user interface needs some work. To start with, the menu screen in game looks like Fortnite. No joke. The colors, the font, everything about it is bizarrely reminiscent of Fortnite's UI, enough that every single time I had to access it, it broke my immersion. It's not even the fact that it looks like Fortnite, it's the fact that it just felt really out of place with the game. It didn't seem to match the tone at all. Also. There's some problems with the user interface. First of all, if you press the button that pulls up the map in game, it pulls up the map, as you would expect, right? And then if you back out of it, it brings you to the menu instead of straight back to the game. Why? Sure, it's not a big deal, but it makes the simple action of checking the map just a liiiiiittle more of a chore than it needs to be. I've personally never played a game that had this issue. Also, the menu tends to be a little laggy sometimes. Like, I'll go to a certain section of it (specifically the Ark and Transportation tabs) and it will take several seconds to load it properly. Overall, the UI works, but it's not the most intuitive thing around. Controls: *sigh* The controls... work. But there are definitely times where an action will trigger that you tried to trigger 5 seconds before and it didn't work. In other words, you'll press a button to do a special attack, it won't work, you'll change to a different weapon and then you'll be doing that special attack you were just trying to do. It's not super frequent, but it's definitely a problem nonetheless. Other than that, they're pretty natural... except for aiming, but I'll get to that when I talk about gameplay. For PlayStation, the controls are viable. There's a bit much to keep track of at first, but you'll get used to it eventually. Gameplay: Frustrating is the first word that comes to mind when I think of the gameplay of this game, and that's unfortunately in more ways than one. For starters, the combat needs work. Essentially, you can switch between a ranged and melee weapon on the fly, and additionally, you can switch the weapon you're using for each style on the fly, each type of weapon having different special attacks you can unlock. It's a great CONCEPT, but in execution it's a little lacking. Most of the time, you're just going to be spamming the same move over and over because it works better than anything else. It typically involves using a ranged weapon, too, which is just a little bland. If there were more situations where one type of weapon was more useful than another, I would be perfectly content just with that, but no. There's a parry and riposte mechanic, like SoulsBorne, but it's... not polished. Essentially, if you time it "correctly" (there's an indicator over an enemy when they launch an attack you can parry) then you can not take damage, and counter when it shows an indicator to press square. Simple, right? Except a lot of the time, you'll parry, it'll be successful, and you won't notice because 1: there's too much going on 2: there's no audio feedback for parrying 3: it doesn't ACTUALLY work about 20% of the time. There's no real way to develop a technique of doing it because there's not enough feedback. In fact, that's another problem with the combat: Not enough feedback. They improved this problem a bit with an update, but before combat was weirdly really quiet. Barely any sounds when you'd hurt an enemy or get hurt yourself. (You'll know when you're hurt yourself no matter what though, I'll get to that) They improved it, but the fact remains that a lot of combat sounds including hitting an enemy are just not loud enough, and there is no sound or any screen shake or anything to indicate that a parry was successful. You might say "didn't you mention a square button indicator when it's successful?" Which I did. But there's two problems. One, I shouldn't have to wait for a second or two to know if I successfully parried in such fast paced combat. In SoulsBorne, you know IMMEDIATELY if you were successful or not. Here, you don't. The other problem genuinely requires its own paragraph. The aim system is BAD. You don't lock onto an enemy by pressing R3 or L3 or anything. In fact, you don't get to choose who to lock onto at all. Because the game AUTO AIMS FOR YOU. This might sound kind of cool, but it's not. In fast paced combat where you're moving all over the place, and enemies are moving all over the place, the player needs to be in total control of their actions. But no. The camera will arbitrarily pick a target that you're aiming at, no matter what you're doing. In terms of parrying, this means that you may successfully parry an attack, and then not be able to riposte because the camera dragged you over to a new target. It means you'll be in the middle of a combo, launch a special attack, and then the enemies move so you waste your time doing a special attack on nothing that you can't cancel out of. Why can't I choose what enemy I want to focus on? It would make the combat feel so much better, even if it slowed the pace down. I shouldn't get so frustrated because I literally do not have any consistent way of attacking what I'm trying to. And this problem is exacerbated by one more major, glaring flaw of the combat system. ENEMIES CAN STAGGER YOU AT ALMOST ANY TIME. There are NO attacks where you can't be interrupted. This means that if you're in the middle of a special attack, and an enemy hits you, sucks. You didn't get to do the attack. This means if you are in mid air doing a special attack, you'll be kicked out of the attack and often flung to the other side of the area. This also means that while you're focused on trying to do a riposte, you can get interrupted by getting hit by an enemy and you'll lose your chance. Or worse yet, you'll be dragged to aiming on another enemy you weren't trying to hit, fighting the game to get back to the enemy you're trying to riposte, getting hit while figuring that out and then losing your chance and taking a bunch of damage while you're at it. The combat is unbelievably frustrating. Seriously, it's ridiculous how much you have to fight against it just to get through an average fight, especially in the beginning when you're not used to it yet. Story: Honestly? It's just bad. The story does a lot of telling you what to do next, but they don't EVER tell you WHY you're doing what you're doing in a way that makes me want to do it. "Save the Tree of Life, because it's important." That's all you ever get. They DO NOT tell you what about it is important, and sure, you can come to your own conclusions because of its name, but as a player, I don't feel engaged with the experience. There's just not enough information to make me feel like I have any real stake in the story. Where did the character go between their childhood and adulthood? I never found out. Where did the Worldeaters come from, and why did they decide to all attack Tree of Life at the same time? I don't know, never found that out either. A story's purpose is to propel the player through the world the game brings you into. But the story of this game breaks the immersion I had in the world because there are so many times where I don't have the slightest idea what's really going on. So many times, characters tell you that you need to face your past. What does that mean? I don't really know. I was given no indication that the player character was haunted by their past in the first place. Of course, you could assume that from the events that happen to them, but there is genuinely no evidence of them being affected by it in any way. Just... in general, the storytelling and the story itself are both incredibly sloppy. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if this weren't a single player action RPG experience, where your choices are supposed to matter, but that's precisely what this is. And the game ACTUALLY talks about how it has an "unusual ending" and how "a surprise ending is always good" when in truth, I couldn't have made a more predictable, tropey ending if I tried. Story is bad. I can't say it any other way. Ending statements: I have a lot more to say. I could seriously talk for hours, but there's not enough characters for me to write the review that I want to, so I'll end it here. Here's the rest of what I have to say, very briefly: There are too many mechanics, and they are all done poorly. The dialogue is often nonsensical and difficult to understand. The game has weirdly long loading screens even on PS5. There are tons of bugs and glitches. There are basically 2 different personality types any given NPC can be, and they're both bland. There's not enough music, so it becomes very repetitive hearing the same like 6 songs over and over. Despite this, I managed to get some enjoyment out of the game. There's potential, but it needed more time in development. They're receptive to feedback, however, so I hope to see this improve like No Man's Sky did. I don't want this game to fail. It deserves better than that.

Well done but a little repetitive
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The reviews for this game are a bit harsh. The graphics are decent and the overall concept is a lot of fun but there's just something missing. In combat the hits don't feel impactful, the missions feel a bit same-y, and some of the open world aspect could be better done. Still, I enjoyed my time with Biomutant, but once I switched to something else I've never considered coming back. It feels like the game is a few tweaks from being great and I hope patches allow this game to be a hidden gem over time.

Biomutant doesn't disappoint...or impress.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Biomutant is a solid game that will let you kill time. The story is "neat" but nothing innovative. Which I would argue is kind of the entire game. It's really fun, and it's quirky, but nothing is really all that innovative. It looks great in 4k, the controls are fairly smooth, story options were kind of bland and you definitely feel like you're on rails. If I were a probably 10-14 this would be perfect. The crafting system is fun, but again, nothing groundbreaking. It's fun and worth full price though.

So good but so bad at the same time...
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to like this game so much...and there are lots of things to like...but I couldn't finish it. After exploring and grinding for about 20 hours I became so overpowered that nothing could beat me even at the highest difficulty setting. I also had to turn the narrator off because the frequency of his comments got to be a bit much. The world is beautiful and the crafting system is kind of fun but everything else got repetitive and hard to overlook after about 30 hours or so. So much potential!

Best Buy is amazing!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Long story short, I purchased this game when it was on sale. Had it delivered to my home. Sadly, someone stole my game out of the package that was on my front porch. So I called Best Buy and told them all that had happened, and amazingly, Best Buy took action and resolved my situation! Best Buy sent out the game to me the second time, free of charge! The game is very fun and colorful! The story line is pretty good, not the best but good. Gameplay as far as controller mechanics is great. If they came out with a sequel to this game I’d buy it! Also, thank you Best Buy for taking care of me and re-shipping this game out to me after someone stole it from me the first time.

Playstation 4 - Biomutant
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In Biomutant you’ll fight your way through an apocalyptic version of an Earth-like planet. You’ll blend sword, mech and gunplay to fight through this open world, forming alliances and saving the Tree of Life. To do so you’ll unite the tribes, craft armour and enhance your skills, while looting your way through forgotten apartments and highways. You’ll face off against a good variety of enemies, from the small every-day griblies to the larger-than-life world eaters. You’ll learn new “wung-fu” moves along your travels, blending sword and gun attacks with martial-arts-like fluid combat. Visuals – Outstanding: I’ve been playing here on the Playstation 4 and biomutant is looking absolutely stellar. On top of some great visuals both in and out of cut scenes, there’s also a nice photo mode with some simple settings which can help you get some great shots. Audio – Outstanding: The narrator really helps to bring out the humorous side of Biomutant, and in addition to this there are some great sound cues and effects. In addition, the soundtrack itself has also been really well executed and I’ve not found any audio to mark down here. Narrative – Outstanding: Biomutant has a great little story, which weaves its way through your gameplay in a few ways. It’s nice to have the option to vary up the dialogue slightly using your own choices and it’s clear that a lot of thought has been put into the narrative to keep it engaging and entertaining. Biomutant was so entertaining to me that I got a copy for my Xbox collection as well! This is definitely a ''must have" game for any collector, you won't be sorry you got this game, trust me!

Q: QuestionI've pre-ordered Biomutant through BB but I cant find any indication of the pre-order bonuses (Merc class, etc.). Will we, in fact, get the pre-order bonus through BB? If yes, how are they supplying it?
Asked by JD.
- A:Answer "THQ Nordic has further clarified that the Mercenary class will not only be locked behind a pre-order bonus, but that it will also only be available as a bonus for those who pre-order the digital or Collector’s Edition copies of the game. This means that those who pre-order a physical copy of the game won’t receive the Mercenary." From https://www.gamerevolution.com/news/677310-biomutant-pre-order-bonus-mercenary-class
