A ragtag band of renegades takes on a master warrior and his private army in this stylish action thriller. In the wake of a global war, guns have been outlawed but violence is still the way for many, who now do battle with knives or their fists. Nicola (Ron Perlman), nicknamed The Woodcutter, is the most feared and powerful fighter on the East Coast, and he rules his empire with the help of a handful of similarly talented lieutenants, most notably Killer No. 2 (Kevin McKidd). One evening, The Drifter (Josh Hartnett) ambles into a bar in Nicola's village and announces he has a score to settle with the leader, and wants to know who's willing to help kill him. The Drifter's bold request catches the ear of Yoshi (Gackt), a swordsman from Japan who was also done wrong by Nicola and wants justice. Most believe The Drifter and Yoshi have signed their own death warrants by taking on the Woodcutter and his minions, but a few are eager to help them bring down the tyrannical Nicola, including the philosophical Bartender (Woody Harrelson), Alexandra (Demi Moore), a courtesan with an unpleasant history with the tyrant, and Yoshi's uncle (Shun Sugata) and cousin (Emily Kaiho). Worthy of nomination for Golden Globe/ Acad Awards
Cinematography, Special Effects, Art Direction and Sound Design are some of the awards this film is worthy of. Limited release to theater's in America. Too bad it took two years post production to get Director Guy Moshe's masterpiece anthology to the people. Extreme detail to attention is evident. For full effect and enjoyment, watch this on a large HD screen with 7.1 surround sound system turned up. You'll notice new things every time you watch. All star cast really hits on all cylinders; you can see that they were directed with passion. (except Demi Moore's throwaway role) Art Design reminiscent of Dick Tracy or Dark Knight, and a sound track that pounds home in sync with the action or scene. Most people say if you like Sin City, you'll like Bunraku. Story is predictable, but powerfully presented with masterful effects. Woody Harrelson steals the show! Josh Hartnett is at his best, and Gact's English debut is noteworthy. Kevin Kidd has the role of a lifetime as Killer #2. You've never seen a movie quite like this! Action a plenty for the guys and a decent storyline and Hartnett and Gact for the girls. If you get a chance to see it in a theatre in the future, you'll go.

Fun story, glorious visuals
Narrated by Mike Patton! "Bunraku" is a fantastic movie. Visually, it's like a living cartoon, with creatively assembled wall-to-wall action scenes. A film which I'm eager to revisit!
