  • General
    • Product Name: EOS Rebel SL1 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm STM and 75-300mm III Lenses
    • Brand: Canon
    • Model Number: 8575B055
    • Color: Black
    • Digital Camera Type: DSLR Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Digital Zoom: None (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG, Other, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 1/8000 sec. - 30 sec. (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: 5.6 f/ (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: 3.5 f/ (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
  • Lens
    • Minimum Focal Length: 18 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 55 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
    • In-Lens Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. Lens stabilization means an element within the lens moves automatically to counteract detected motion.)
  • Flash
    • Integrated Flash: false
    • External Flash Mount: None (A cold shoe is a mounting point on top of a camera to securely attach a flash unit or other compatible accessories. A hot shoe is a cold shoe with an electrical connection that insures communication and synchronization between camera and accessory.)
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3.2 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
  • Compatibility
    • Tripod/Monopod Mountable: Yes (A support function that allows the device to be mounted to monopods and tripods for leveling and stability.)
    • Memory Card Compatibility: CompactFlash (CF), Secure Digital, Secure Digital Extended Capacity (SDXC), Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) (The type of memory card(s) recommended for use with the product.)
  • Features
    • Integrated GPS: No
  • Connectivity
    • PictBridge Enabled: true (PictBridge allows digital cameras, camcorders and other image capture devices to connect and print directly to photo printers and other output devices without using a computer.)

Q: What all comes in the package?

A: The package includes a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, with charger; Has a nice neck strap, lens covers and caps for the mounting connections on both both lenses. And, yes, it comes with three CD's (for both Windows and MacIntosh) which include the camera instruction manual, software instruction manual and digital solution disk. The only thing of substance not included in the package is the SD memory card. I purchased a 32 gigabyte card, which should be plenty of storage for my use -- but one can get up to at least 128 Gigs on a card it you choose. It's a good package.

Q: Sports pictures

A: The SL1 only can shoot 4 frames per second which is somewhat introductory for a DSLR. You can use it for sports, BUT you will only be able to get one or two shots off before the subsequent shots will be blurry. I have used mine for my child's soccer game, and if you time it right, you can get some good photo's. However, if you want more than that, this camera falls short. The Canon T5i is not much better at 5 frames per second and you will have the same problem at that price point. If you want to take a lot of burst photo's, the Canon 7D Mark II was specifically designed for that with dual digic-6 processors at 10 frames per second. Overall the SL1 is great camera and it's small form factor make it a perfect choice for something that you can take to events without being in the way. I use mine for everything from quick portraits, to child's soccer games, to everyday activities. I have never regretted purchasing this camera and it's very fun to use once you know what it's limits are.

Q: Does this camera take video?

A: Yes, 1080p videos can be recorded!

Q: Is this package all brand new or used items?

A: All new items in a sealed box. The site does not show it well, but this is actually a Canon package and everything but the SD card comes in a sealed Canon box. And this is a great package. The camera bag is well padded and fits the extra lens and camera with ease. The only catch is that you have to put the 18-55mm lens on the camera in order to zip it all up, but since this is the lens I use most often I don't see it as a hindrance. See my review of the product for more details.

Q: Does the Camera come with a flash?

A: Yes, it does have a built-in flash. I did not buy a separate flash for this camera.

Q: best camera for beginner photographer wanna-be?

A: Yes, I think you would love this camera - get it while Best buy has the bigger lens for just 50$ more (not sure if you are interested in the bigger lens 75-300 mm that takes excellent shots while zoomed-in).

Q: Looking for an uprage, is this good?

A: I think it would be a beneficial upgrade, the nice thing about DSLR cameras is that they have better quality than point and shoot digital. They may seem pricier, but DSLRs don't get upgraded as often compared to your run of the mill standard camera. I have this model and I love it, the pictures look great, there are a plethora of features. If you want the camera to do the thinking for you, you can have it on an auto mode, if you want to have more control of your camera, you can have it so it's more manual. This is a great replacement to a regular point and shoot, without breaking the bank.

Q: Contents of Package

A: Has a battery, the charger and a neck strap. The battery lasts for a decent amount of time but I would suggest buying another battery if you are a serious photographer.
