Kenneth Branagh directs Disney's 2015, live-action take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella, which stars Lily James as the put-upon young women forced to endure a life of labor at the hands of her stepmother (Cate Blanchett) after her father dies unexpectedly. Truly a masterpiece

Disney's Cinderella, directed by Kenneth Branagh is fantastic! Now available on DVD/Blu-ray/Digital, this movie is about a girl named Ella (Lily James) who ends up living with her stepmother (Cate Blanchet) and stepsisters (Sophia McShera and Holliday Grainger). Ella is treated like a servant until one night when the prince holds a ball that changes her life. Ella is a kind and courageous girl who cares about everyone and everything. One of her mother's sayings was, "have courage and be kind." This is a good message to use in life. I think Ella as a character is a good role model. She stands up for what she believes in and is always very kind. This film is very detailed and precious. The costumes in Cinderella are amazing and breath-taking. All the costumes were very stylish and fit the time period. Every sparkle, seam and ruffle on every costume were perfectly in place. Ella's ball gown is spectacular and has very vibrant colors. In general, all the colors in the sets and costumes light up the film. All the actors played their parts perfectly. They are so into their characters that they seem real. The actors fit together as a cast like family which helps make the whole film more believable. My favorite character is the Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter). She is so funny and has a bubbly personality. She really looks and acts like a Fairy Godmother. All the special effects seem real. In one scene, a pumpkin turns into a carriage and it looks like magic. The DVD of this movie includes some cool bonus features. One of the bonus features is Frozen Fever, a Frozen short (based on the feature film Frozen). In this film, it's Anna's birthday and Elsa helps out. Another feature is Ella's furry friends. This feature is about working with all the animals in the movie. Also there's a bonus feature about the ballroom scene which made me realize how much work they put into these scenes. I rate this movie 5 out of 5 stars for all of its incredible sets, details and costumes. I recommend it for ages 3 to 19 because this film would appeal to all ages but, there is a lizard guy who is weird and a little creepy that younger kids might not enjoy so much. Cinderella truly is spectacular and now it's available on DVD/Blue- Ray/Digital. Reviewed by Mia A., KIDS FIRST! Film Critic. For more reviews by youth, go to kidsfirst dot org.

Cinderella is a powerful film starring Lily James as Cinderella, Cate Blanchett as the Stepmother, and Sophie McShera as Drisella and Holiday Grainger as Anastasia. Ella’s early years while her parents (played by Ben Chaplin and Hayley Atwell) were in her life are nearly charmed and idyllic. Ella’s father is a wealthy merchant who works abroad. Ella’s mother communicates an important message to her to be both brave and kind. However, Cinderella’s life is turned upside down once her stepmother begins to control her life. Meeting the Prince (Richard Madden) is one of the bright spots in her life. The Captain (Nonso Anozie) is a close advisor of the Prince and takes on the role of a protector and lookout for the Prince who shows in different ways in how he is only trying to help the Prince. The Prince has a close relationship with his father (Derek Jacobi). Helena Bonham Carter and Stellan Skarsgard also play significant roles in Cinderella (and obviously) there is so much more to the movie than the details I included here for good reasons. The bonus features to the film; Ella’s Furry Friends, Frozen Fever (via Walt Disney Animation Studios; One of the sisters decides to prepare a birthday party of the other sister in Frozen Fever). There are also short snippet images for Hero 6, Monster Inc., Tinkerbell, advertisement For Disney Movies Anywhere, Trailer for Disney Nature’s Born In China (featuring Panda Bears and a setting that looks like the wild forests of China, I’m only guessing and I understand that it could be something else). Trailer for an exclusive all new short film titled Riley’s First Date, trailer for the Tomorrowland movie, and an emphasis on the fact that all films and promotions may not be available in all territories.

The original Cinderella is something I am familiar with since childhood. My little sister loved it to the point that it was regularly played in my house and I remember most of the lines by heart. So I felt some trepidation when Disney decided to make a live action version of it. But I was pleasantly surprised. The look of the movie alone is worthwhile: beautiful set designs and costumes and a wonderful visual feel to it are what make the film. Glen Close as the stepmother in particular is stunning. The movie has some interesting additions, some of which work better than others. Having Cinderella meet her Prince early on without realizing it is a great touch in an attempt to move away from the Disney formula of three day romance with no basis and the characters have great chemistry together making for a great meet cute. There is also a little more background into how Cinderella's step family came into her life and got her into this position, as well as reasons for why she's stays, though these aren't entirely satisfying, though the attempt is appreciated. The mice are integrated into the movie much better than one would think and a lot of the side plots are interesting in their own right while still tying into the main story. A fun movie I would recommend to anyone who likes either the animated movie or Cinderella stories in general.

We thought this was just going to be for the kids - and I wasn't really that into seeing "Cinderella." But, I was thoroughly surprised by how beautifully crafted this film is...the art direction (settings, costumes, etc.) and cinematography are first rate. And the performances are very good - Cate Blanchett as the Stepmother gave an outstanding performance that was filled with nuance and realistically vicious and hateful. I don't know if this was a popular film at the movies or not - but, if you're looking for a movie for the whole family to watch - especially with young children, this is the one for you. I couldn't really give it five stars because, well, it's STILL "Cinderella" and not really all that INCREDIBLE a movie...but definitely a GOOD movie.

I have loved fairy tales all of my life. I do not like how fairy tales are trampled on and completely changed so that our jaded, pessimistic viewpoint is justified and satisfied. We need hope that we can be better, as people and as a society, and fairy tales can be a powerful, uplifting tool. Cinderella is a wonderful story, and I was blown away by how the filmmakers tackled this project. Lush sets, wonderful costumes, great special effects, and wonderful performances do not take away the simple message we all need to hear in this life: Have courage and be kind. True beauty is found in this, not appearances. This world is magical, whether we acknowledge it or not. So let's acknowledge it, have courage and be kind, and the magic will come with a bippity-boppity-boo!

On paper, the idea of Disney doing live action adaptations of some of the classics wasn't very appealing. Maleficent tested the waters and didn't really land for me, but then Cinderella came along and for some reason just worked, and every one of these movies since has worked for me. There's just something pleasant about this movie, the casting is great, and the costuming is awesome, which makes it surprising that the costuming in Beauty and the Beast was kind of disappointing. The bluray has a decent selection of special features, including the Frozen Fever short that accompanied it in theaters. The video and audio quality is excellent.

I did not see this in theater and was kinda skeptical about it, but kept hearing about how great it was from a few friends. I was pleasantly surprised that this movie is entertaining the whole way through. The acting, the story additions, the scenery are fantastic! I haven't been a big fan of a lot of the live action movies that were on tv, but now I'm really excited about the new version of Peter Pan they are doing. This movie goes into the replay box, more for me than the kid! My only issue was that the sound is very low and you really have to turn the volume up a lot. We have a surround sound system that can shake the house so it's odd to have to turn up a movie so much.

We all know the famous fairy tale, but this version takes advantage of the state-of-the-art movie-making magic now available to Disney's imagineers. What you get are breathtaking colors fully showcasing the fantastic gowns both for Cinderella and for her stepmother and stepsisters. Cate Blanchett is especially divine in her costume getups. It is interesting that the actress playing Cinderella and the actor playing the Prince could be upstaged by th evil stepmother and Corrupt Prime Minister, but experience and great talent shows. Cinderella was never a guy flick. So, I would recommend this for all women and young girls who still believe in the magic of fairy tale romance.
