Cloak & Dagger [DVD] [1984]

  • SKU: 7179705
  • Release Date: 11/23/2004
  • Rating: PG
The Dabney Coleman 80's kid classic Cloak and Dagger makes its long-awaited widescreen bow to DVD thanks to Universal Home Entertainment. With no menus or special features, the disc is devoid of anything special besides an anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen picture and Dolby Digital 2.0 sound. Picture quality is extremely uneven with severe grain marking some scenes, while others look to be solid with slightly evident edge enhancements. Fans of the film might buy it simply for the widescreen enticement, though don't expect anything more. This is definitely one that Universal will need to revisit down the line.

    Cloak and Dagger
Juvenile actor Henry Thomas, late of E.T., is the star of Cloak and Dagger. Given to telling whoppers, Thomas finds himself in a boy-who-cried-wolf dilemma when he overhears two spies plotting to smuggle valuable info out of the US. When he can't get his own father Dabney Coleman to believe him, Thomas turns disconsolately to a computer game called "Cloak and Dagger" and begins to fantasize, imagining that he is in cahoots with secret agent Jack Flack, also played by Coleman. Finally coming to grips with the fact that the mythical Jack Flack cannot help him this time, Thomas takes on the spies with the help of his schoolmates, who are also "Cloak and Dagger" addicts. Cloak and Dagger is a heavily disguised remake of 1949's The Window; both are based on the Cornell Woolrich story The Boy Cried Murder. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

      Fun & Imaginative

Good movie, I wonder if this film would get made nowadays considering the material involved in the film. Good anamorphic widescreen transfer, but absolutely nothing else, not even an interactive menu!
