    Synopsis

A followup to a 1999 HBO "mockumentary" special, season one of Curb Your Enthusiasm finds Seinfeld creator (and former standup comedian) Larry David playing himself in ten half-hour episodes, many of them ad-libbed by David and his stellar supporting cast. In the course of events, Larry gets into trouble with his wife, Cheryl (Cheryl Hines), thanks to a "tent" in his trousers and an unguarded remark. He also develops a crush on actress Mary Steenburgen, much to the dismay of Mary's actor spouse Ted Danson; has a misadventure with a golf ball that somehow leads him to the home of a porn manufacturer (played by Mr. Show's Bob Odenkirk); and learns that appearances matter when he tries to purchase a bracelet to mollify his wife (and also launches one of the series' multitude of running gags). Also: an interior decorator comes up with a balm for Larry's unintentional rebuff of Diane Keaton; Larry and Cheryl are forced to haggle with crazy neighbors for the right to "bury" a telephone wire; a vintage car is accidentally ruined by Larry, who subsequently lets an obscenity slip into the funeral notice for Cheryl's aunt; the issue of "Affirmative Action" is thoroughly mishandled, as is Cheryl's medication prescription; and Cheryl is given the opportunity to relaunch her acting career in The Vagina Monologues. In addition to the above-mentioned guest stars, the series' stream-of-consciousness episodes also feature appearances by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kathy Griffin, and Richard Lewis.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a half-hour comedy HBO series which begins by breaking rules of television, then becomes an award-winning series. It is the creation of star/creator Larry David, co-creator of Seinfeld. The main character of CYE is patterned after Seinfeld's George Costanza. Both these characters talk too much, blow things out of proportion, say and do many faux pas making things worst for themselves in the end. This show's plot is scripted while much is improvised. The first season starts off with a one-hour mockumentary following David's return to stand-up; the other 10 episodes follow a more traditional sit-com format. Pilot + 10 episodes on 2 dvd discs in original full screen format

The first season of Curb Your Enthusiasm is funny in that we get a first look at the genius behind "Seinfeld". We are conditioned very early on in this season how things work out. Larry continuously finds himself in impossible and awkward situations that make us as an audience feel for him. His wife Cheryl and manager Jeff are always scolding him for his seeming lack of manners, but those perceptions may be do to Larry being a victim of bad circumstances. You'll find yourself watching and taking the side of Lary David, a people's champion.

Larry David, co creator of Seinfeld, can be best compared to George from Seinfeld. The show is so perfectly set up and the plot and storyline is always in sync. Larry is really clever and on top of that most of the show is improv. I started watching a few years back and haven't missed one episode. I have the whole series on DVD and I highly recommend you start here!

I thought I would give this a try. It needs to get better real quick or I will have it on Ebay. I like the supporting actor but he doesn't carry the show. I am wondering why this show is considered successful. So far it appears boring and the acting in the first few episodes is insanely bad. I expect better from a HBO show.

This series is absolutely hilarious and the 1st season is one of, if not, THE best. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to laugh. Larry David is so funny and the supporting cast, his wife, his manager, his other friends, such as Richard Lewis, are great, too.

This man is a total genius. I am a diehard Seinfeld fan and I thought there was no way I could possibly be interested in a Larry David show. I was completely wrong. Laughter around every turn.

This is a great start to a great show. This season of the show featured some funny and memorable moments including Larry's awkward situation involving race. Also, there are some good cameos including Ted Danson and Julia Louis-Dreyfuss.
