    Synopsis

    Deliverance
Adapted from James Dickey's popular novel, John Boorman's 1972 movie recounts the grueling psychological and physical journey taken by four city slickers down a river in the backwoods of Georgia. At the behest of Iron John-esque Lewis (Burt Reynolds), the less adventuresome Ed (Jon Voight), Bobby (Ned Beatty), and Drew (Ronny Cox) agree to canoe down an uncharted section of the river before a dam project ruins the region. After warnings from the grimy, impoverished locals, and Drew's tuneful yet ominous "Dueling Banjos" encounter with a mute inbred boy, the four men embark on their trip, exulting in the beauty of nature and the initial thrill of the rapids. The next day, however, things begin to take a turn for the worse when Bobby and Ed decide to rest on shore after becoming separated from Lewis and Drew. Two rifle-wielding mountain men (Bill McKinney and Herbert "Cowboy" Coward) emerge from the woods, tying up Ed while one of them rapes Bobby and makes him "squeal like a pig." Lewis and Drew rescue them, but the attack irrevocably changes the tenor of the journey. As the river gets rougher and rougher, the men come to nightmarish grips with what it means to survive outside the safety net of "civilization." ~ Lucia Bozzola, Rovi

Of course I saw this 1972 movie years ago, but I was particularly interested in this "deluxe edition" because of the special features included. There are interviews with the actors, the director, and others who worked on the film. There's a lot of information about the author of the book it is based on, and there's a great featurette showing how they found locations, extras, and difficulties during filming. I encourage fans of this movie to take a rafting trip on the same river where it was filmed (Chattooga river, northeast Georgia) because it has been protected all these years so it looks just the same - 2017.

As Ned Beaty once said, if you are ever offered a roll in a film and the line "squeal like a pig" appears anywhere in the script, turn it down. The actor to this day is remembered most for his role in this film regardless of all the films he has done prior and since this one which were nominated for Oscars, Emmy's, and a Golden Globe. This movie is a classic, and without a doubt an iconic film. It succeeds in making the audience uncomfortable, helpless, and scared for the main characters as they are hunted and attacked by the local natives.

      Gripping-to say the least

This gripping story concerns 4 pals (Burt Reynolds, Jon Voight, Ned Beatty, & Ronny Cox) who take a weekend canoe trip in a section of the Appalachians before a dam is set to begin construction there. The weekend of male bonding turns into a nightmare after their horrific encounter with 2 of the locals (Bill McKinney & Herbert "Cowboy" Coward). Based on the book James Dickey (who himself appears as a sheriff), this film also has the memorable "Dueling Banjos" segment & it deservedly put Burt Reynolds on the map (so sad that his work in recent years hasn't matched this classic).

Act like an animal, you will be treated like an animal. Act like a man and you will be a man. Friends take a trip down a southern wilderness river and learn what it means to overcome our primitive nature. One man leads the way and brings his companions back to their higher nature with courage and perseverance and inner strength. An outdoor adventure none of them expected, none of them wanted but was necessary to remind them they are MEN!

One of the best films of the 70's! A great classic thriller. Fantastic acting, directing, cinematography, and film editing. And then there' the song Dueling Banjos to set the tone. If you haven't seen this movie, it's a must. If you have seen it, it's worth watching again!

JON VOIGHT steps out of the shadow of Burt Reynolds & becomes the lead character in this movie. Ronny Cox ADDS humor & "doing the right thing". Ned Betty is the "X" factor that creates the suspense & forces the others 2 look deep into themselves. Plus, the hit. soundtrack: DUELING BANJOS! LOVE that song!

I had this in DVD, but wanted this on Blu ray. Love the movie. Ned Beaty when he was young Excellent park in the movie when one of Burt friends starting playing his guitar along with a boy with mental problems (who played the banjo), just loved this part of the movie.
