Only 4 stars due to the price point, quality wise
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have done so much research of hearing sound test on youtube ( just to get a sense of the sound although I know it wont be accurate due to various reasons) before making this purchase. Im gonna make this simple for you. Sound quality is excellent, crisp clear and heavy bass. You will hear some slight distortions when the volume goes up higher than 70~80%ish. However my thoughts are you dont use full 100% capactiy on anything. If you get a great results on 70~80 %ish, that is good enough. Some people say that the sound quality is not as good as they expect but if you have used or heard music from phanton and expect the same quality from a mania, thats too much to ask. There is a price difference between those two line ups. Some people say the bass is too heavy, but you can easily low the bass. I'd rather have heavy bass capability and lower it if its too much for you, but not having the heavy bass as a default is a different story. Now I am hot happy about a few things though. Connecting this device via bluetooth didnt work the way instructions told me to do. It took me quite a while to finally get connected. once i got it done, it isnt that bad. Battery life doesnt last 10 hours at least not mine. I got about 5 hours around 60% volume and no battery indicator is disappointing considering the price for this speaker. Also considering this a portable bluetooth speaker, it is pricey. However the bulild quality is solid. I personally think it is still overpriced speaker and I would've been totally satisfied if this speaker was about $600 and not $799. Only reason i gave 4 stars instead of 5. If it wasnt for the price, It deserves 5 stars!! Excellent speaker don't regret buying this speaker.

Best speaker and worth it
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just got it, very nice looking speaker but even sounds amazing. I own zeppelin (B &W) and JBL Extreme 2. Like those speakers but this one takes you to another level of listening experience. It’s comes with the price tag of 850$( with tax). But it’s worth it because it’s best ever I have experienced.

Great-sounding Speaker with Style
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Devialet, a French company, is well-known for their audio components. They have not disappointed with this compact bluetooth (BT) speaker - the Mania. The box includes the speaker, USBC-to-USBC charging cable, wall charger (2 pieces slide/snap together), a carrying bag, and quick user guide/paperwork. The speaker comes with a manufacturer's 2-year warranty. BUTTON LAYOUT: You can have this unit facing left/right or front/rear. If you have the woofers facing left/right, then the controls will be front & back. Using that position with the charging port on the BACK (that would be common if plugged in), this is how the buttons are positioned: Front: 1. Pause/Play 2. Vol+ 3. Vol- Back: 1. Power 2. Bluetooth (BT) 3. Battery meter button 4. Mic on/off 5. USB-C charging port For my use, I connected to a Samsung Galaxy S23+ and also Wi-Fi. I did not use Apple interface. PROS: ----------- * The unit is incredibly well-built and feels solid. The style is evident with a strong rubber-like handle and "felt" cover with chrome accents. The buttons are durable and easy to press. * All lights are stealth, built into the rubber handle - they shine through the handle itself. There are no LEDs visible when the lights are off. * The sound, considering its size, is pretty astounding. Put next to other comparable brands, and this unit performs as well as the others if not better. It's more of a "complete" and balanced sound rather than one that has a ton of bass or a lot of treble. You can adjust the EQ settings to have more bass or highs; however, in either case, the sound simply does not distort hardly at all and is crystal clear. * The speaker comes with a carrying bag that has a string tie at the top to cinch it closed. This is a nice touch though for the money and brand, a hard case would have been better in order to protect the woofers better. * A hard case does not come with the unit as stated previously; however, one can be purchased from the Devialet store. * The BT has good range. I found distances of 30-40 feet before the speaker would eventually start to cut out. * Connecting to wifi was easy during setup, and continuing to use Spotify was easy. In the Devialet app, you choose whether you want to use wifi or BT. The advantage of using wifi is that the device you're connected to doesn't have to remain in BT range to work. * There is a quality rubber surface on the bottom of the unit to keep it stationary when playing (so it won't vibrate off the area where it is placed. CONS: ----------- * The buttons should have some contrast showing the markings to make it easier to see what each button does. Instead, cutouts are used instead which can be a bit difficult to see. * The battery meter button and battery lights are on opposite sides of the unit. The battery button is located below the BT button on one side, and up to 4 green lights show on the opposite side, under the Vol- button the battery power remaining. The battery lights should be on the same side (under the battery button) to see it easily. * The app only offers Treble/Bass equalizer (see screenshot) and limited information on the play screen. The song space has very little room and has to scroll left (when playing on Spotify/Pandora/etc). I would like to see an app update which can show the artist and song name a bit easier and larger on the screen. I don't believe 3/4 of the screen is needed to to turn up the volume, pause/play, and track back/forward. Seems there is a lot of wasted screen here that could display the song better. OTHER OBSERVATIONS: ----------- * Most people will likely only able to get 2 fingers (max) into the carrying handle. * I was unable to test the battery longevity. This will depend on how loud you play it and how much bass the songs have. The harder it hits, the shorter the life span before having to recharge. When I got the speaker, it was at 22%. It was charged up to 100% in less than an hour on my charger. * When connecting via BT, it does have an audio chime indicator that it was either connected or disconnected. I did not see a way to disable this feature, so keep this in mind if turning on in a quiet room. * There is a contact charging platform that can be purchased instead of using a USB-C cable to charge. This might be worth buying if you have such an aesthetic need. CONCLUSION: ===================== Overall, I'm very impressed with the sound of the Devialet Mania BT speaker. It's very balanced and clear and doesn't distort like some other BT speakers at high volumes. There are some other minor features in the app that some users might like; however, nothing major to speak of for me. The biggest plus on the app side is the ability to switch from BT to wifi if needed. Users will just have to remember which side the buttons are on since they aren't very visible in low light. The easy way for me was to know that the power button was also on the mic & power cable side (which IS more visible). So the volume and play controls are on the opposite side. If Devialet can update the app to have a better EQ on the app, that would be most helpful - otherwise, you may have to use the advanced EQ sound settings on your device if those settings are available. I like the speaker a lot and would still give it a high rating. Great job, Devialet.

Kettle Bell Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker reminds me of a kettle ball kinda funny. This is a small but very powerful speaker it is also heavy. I really like the shape of it easy pick up and go. This speaker last for 10hrs so they say i have had it for a week and it didn't last so long i don't know if it had something to do with the volume i was playing it at or that i had a lot of song with bass. I really like the sound of this it does fill the room up with a great full sound it does have a great bass sound to it. I did try the mic mode when i put it up against the wall i really couldn't tell if it really did change as much as they say it does but that my just be my hearing. I like the button lay out each side has 3 soft feel buttons easy to remember. It has a battery display on one side of the speaker. This does have an app to use you can change the EQ on it but only has LOW and HIGH and 3 other sounds you can change to. The app doesn't do all that much it will tell you the battery life what station you want to hear your music from it doesn't have all of them. It does come with ALEXA witch i don't use so i didn't try that part out. They do have some light on the speaker 1 on each side one lights up red and the other white the white one is by the power button. The red one is on the opposite side and i looked in the manual to see what it means and it didn't say the manual really doesn't tell you much at all. It does say to hold the power button on for 3 seconds to turn on i have to press it for 20 to get it to turn on. When it turns on it makes a noisy but longer than 3sec. So far i like the sound Don't care for the power on App is just OK you can turn it off with the app but not on and it doesn't seem to always find it you have to go to your Bluetooth setting to connect to it. This is heavy so you wont want to carry this around. Battery isn't as good as they say or it's just loud bass brings it down. I have to say the packaging was very good and you get a carry bag with it. Overall a good speaker but a heavy price to pay for it.

Stunning sound quality and stylish design
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Devialet Mania is a compact high-end portable speaker that offers great sound quality, a stylish design, and a variety of features that make it a great choice for anyone looking for a top-of-the-line portable audio experience. One of the things that sets the Devialet Mania apart from other portable speakers of the same size is its sound quality. The speaker is equipped with six drivers, including four full-range drivers and two woofers, which deliver a wide range of frequencies with surprising clarity and detail. The bass is deep enough to be noticed, the mids are smooth and balanced, and the highs are clear. I’ve listened to many different types of music, from rock to hip hop to Caribbean and classical music and they all sounded amazing. In addition to its great sound quality, the Mania also has a stylish and modern design. The speaker is available in two colors; I have the deep black, and it features a durable woven fabric exterior that is both elegant and practical. This speaker is also splash-resistant, so you can use it outdoors without worrying about it getting wet. The speaker is packed with features that make it a great choice as a portable speaker. It supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, so you can stream music from your favorite devices. It also supports Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay. The setup was easy using the app. It also has built-in Amazon Alexa, so you can control the speaker with your voice. The built-in battery provides up to 10 hours of playback according to Devialet. I never had a chance to test it for 10 hours to verify those claims; however, I’ve played music and listened to podcasts on several occasions for about 2 hours at a time at 50% volume and the battery held good, losing a little over 20% of its charge. One issue I’ve noticed with the battery is that it stops charging at 75% for some reason. I’m not sure why but it hasn’t been a hindrance up to now since I don’t take it outdoors where there is no power. Overall, the Devialet Mania is an excellent portable speaker that offers remarkable sound quality, a sophisticated design, and a variety of features that make it perfect for both indoor and outdoor use. If you're looking for a portable speaker that will impress you despite its compact size, the Mania is definitely worth considering.

Superb audio in a small package.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd recently read about Devialet's sound modeling technology, and was excited for the opportunity to give it try for myself. I don't particularly consider myself an audiophile, but I do enjoy high quality sound, and am willing to pay a premium to get good clarity and strong bass while avoiding things like static hiss and crackling. While the Mania is comparatively low on the price scale of audiophile gear, it's still far more expensive than a lot of high-end consumer products. Setup was fairly simple. Plug it in, turn it on, and connect to it using the app. It's fully AirPlay compatible and works perfectly in that regard. Spotify Connect also worked without any problems whatsoever. Once everything is set up, if you take it out of range of WiFi, it automatically switches to bluetooth mode, where pairing is as easy as you'd expect. To do it manually, just hold the button for a couple of seconds to drop it into pairing mode. Beyond the setup process, the app is fairly basic. The equalizer is far more limited than what I'd expected to find in a device in this market, but that may be because the sound modeling takes primary control of that process. You can adjust the highs and lows to a degree. Using the app, you can toggle real-time stereo calibration and adjust other settings in the device. The ability to turn the status LEDs off (if you want to keep it in a dark room, for example) is a nice touch you don't normally find. In terms of physical stature, it's still a relatively small device for something with six speakers in it, and weighs in at slightly over 5 lbs. The built in handle feels sturdy, as does the rest of the device, and well made. A dock is available from Devialet as well, if you want an easy way to keep it charged to grab and go, as well as a protective carrying case with strap. But how does it sound? At the risk of sounding dramatic, the first time I turned the thing on and put on one of my favorite tunes, it sent a shiver up my spine and gave me goosebumps, and I can't even articulate why. The sound is certainly room filling, and it gets quite loud if you want it to, but not even the fact that it has the ability to generate discernable differences for left and right stereo channels from anywhere in the room is enough to explain what it does to my senses. The audio the Mania produces just has... je ne sais quoi. I do want to take a minute to talk about Devialet's claims regarding the speaker. The first is 360 degree stereo sound. Devialet claims that you can move around the Mania as you please and still be able to discern the difference between left and right channels without them becoming muddled together in the process. I don't know how they've managed to accomplish this, but it's mostly true. It's not as discernable as two speakers set several feet apart from each other, but this is the first bluetooth speaker I've ever used that wasn't effectively a mono experience. The second is that it uses adaptive cross-stereo to alter it's sound modeling in real time, so that you can move it around and have it adapt to it's surroundings. I don't know how true this second point is, but I do know that as I move it to different spots in my home, the sound quality remains high, even in my somewhat sound-reflective garage. I've taken to using the Mania far more often than I expected I would, from listening to audiobooks while cooking to metal while working in my shop. Whatever I'm doing, I just grab it and take it with me. And while the battery life is good enough that I've only had to plug it in a couple of times so far, I'm thinking picking up that dock might be a worthwhile venture.

Unrivaled Audio Quality in a Compact Form Factor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Up until recently, I wasn't too familiar with the Devialet name brand. It wasn't until I got to experience a short audio demo at my local Best Buy that this name brand truly captured my attention. I've been using this Devialet Mania portable bluetooth speaker in various indoor & outdoor settings and the audio experience has been nothing short of impressive. For starters, the build quality of the speaker feels very premium. This orb shaped speaker is covered in a sturdy, yet somewhat soft, grill mesh that envelops and protects all four speaker drivers. The speaker handle is made out of a very rigid plastic with some rubber lining for grip. Although the handle feels durable, it's minimalistic design cue only allows for two of my fingers to fit comfortably in the handle opening (three if I jam another one in there). Given the somewhat substantial weight of 5 lbs, I did find myself yearning for a more practical handle design that would allow my entire hand grip. If you'll be carrying this speaker with you on a bit of a longer walk or a short hike, I recommend carrying it in the included speaker pouch as it has two nylon handles that makes it much easier to carry. I do have to admit that while the handle isn't the most practical speaker handle I've ever used, it's design certainly contributes to it's gorgeous minimalistic and futuristic aesthetic. I also love the open dual woofer design which further compliments its visual appeal. In terms of sound, this is the best sounding portable bluetooth speaker I've ever heard; by a landslide. It really is a device that needs to be heard to be truly appreciated. I tested it in various indoor settings, and no matter the room or area, it would fill the entire space with it's dynamic range. In outdoor settings, it also did an incredible job of dispersing the sound in all directions. Due to it's design with all four of it's aluminum drivers thoughtfully positioned all around it's ball shaped body, the sound truly envelops the room in a 360 degree fashion. No other flagship portable bluetooth speaker that I've tried (even those claiming 360 degree sound) has had this type of immersive multi-directional range. The soundstage itself is truly special. The mids and highs are perfectly balanced with the low end. Vocals have a lot of substance; they sound very clear, organic, and full. Instruments are easily discernable and sound naturally reproduced. The bass produced by the exposed dual woofers is tight and punchy yet has just enough resonance to give it a soothing bellowing rumble. I can't stress enough how beautiful it's sound signature sounds when it all comes together. While all genres of music that I played sounded phenomenal, it's default soundstage was really highlighted when I played back vocal tracks in the likes of Diana Krall and Sarah Brightman. Electronic music, hip-hop, jazz, and country are also perfectly complimented by it's default soundstage signature. Metal and rock music sounded great but didn't have quite the rich vibrancy of the aforementioned genres. One last thing to note regarding it's sound - this thing can get pretty loud at max volume! For me, around 80% volume level was more than enough in both indoor and outdoor settings. Bluetooth performance was also flawless. I tested streaming from about 25 feet away through walls and never experienced any disconnects or any type of interference. While it's superb sound quality is the Devialet Mania's bread and butter, it does pack a few additional features worth talking about. The Devialet Mania's companion app (available on both iOS and Android) allows you to control the volume, launch a few music applications, and customize the EQ. I do have to mention that this somewhat of a bare bones app. The only built in music apps that are currently launchable are Spotify, Qobuz, Deezer, Tidal, Audirvana, and TuneIn Web Radios. The EQ is also very basic. You only get a "Low" and a "High" EQ slider which essentially seems to be a bass and a treble slider. The lack of additional EQ sliders in the various frequency ranges leads to only having two EQ presets: "Flat" and "Voice". However, because the default "Flat" soundstage is so perfectly tuned, this wasn't a big concern for me. While the speaker is not marketed as an "outdoor speaker" per se, it's IPX4 certification (making it resistant to water splashes only), does leave a bit to be desired. Since I absolutely love how this thing sounds, I would like to take it with me on all my adventures. As a result, I do hope that we see an IP67 implementation on future versions to make it a fully waterproof and dustproof product. At least the rubber lined physical buttons (i.e. pause, play, power, bluetooth, volume up/down, battery status button) do inspire some protective confidence whenever used around water related activities. In terms of battery life, Devialet claims 10 hours of playtime at "moderate volume levels" . I used this speaker extensively over the weekend, while working on projects around the house, and tested it upto 6 hours of continous playback at around 65%-70% volume levels. I still had plenty battery charge left so it sounds like their claims are right on par. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the high end audio quality experience that the Devialet Mania is able to provide in such a compact form factor. While it's additional features aren't anything groundbreaking, it delivers it's core functionality in strides. Given that this portable speaker is pretty much in a premium category of it's own, I would have liked to have seen some additional accessories included like the mania station charging dock or the devialet mania cocoon (which is a really stylish and robust hard cover carrying case). As for now, it only comes included with a standard 5 ft. USB-C power brick + charging cable and a cloth speaker bag. If youre looking for the best portable bluetooth speaker audio experience, and you don't mind not having the added ruggedness of IP67 certification, you will absolutely love the Devialet Mania.
