Synopsis

Disney's A Christmas Carol
Robert Zemeckis directs this animated version of the Yuletide classic A Christmas Story. The story centers on Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey), a penny-pinching miser who cares nothing for the people around him, least of all his hopelessly downtrodden employee Bob Cratchit (Gary Oldman) and infectiously optimistic nephew, Fred (Colin Firth). On Christmas Eve, after a frightening encounter with the ghost of his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley, Scrooge is visited by three spirits -- the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come -- who take him on an eye-opening journey to expose the truths he is reluctant to face. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Disney's A Christmas Carol is by far the best rendition of the story to date. The film captures the true essence of the book by incorporating many of the nuances of the book. The home conversion of this film is also 1st class. Blu Ray viewers will be happy to note that the lossless audio track and video are first class. I purchased the 3D version which came with 4 formats of the film. Talk about value! If you have been on the fence with regard to purchasing a 3D TV, the 3D version of A Christmas Carol will surely help you down from the fence! The sense of depth, the ghost, the way the 3D version puts you IN the movie is nothing short of amazing. I actually felt kind of silly at one point as I reached out to touch the snow flakes that seemed to be falling in our living room! Jim Carrey does an amazing job of portraying Scrooge and director Robert Zemeckis does an outstanding job capturing the darkness as well as the action Dicken's intended in his classic novel. The imagery, the level of detail, the acting, the almost scary realism of the animation and the classic story make this disk a MUST HAVE. **Parent (such as myself) please not that this film could be very scary for small children.** My daughter is 4 years old and there were some scenes that scared her but for the most part she enjoyed the entire film. http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/achristmascarol/

My wife and I saw this last year in the theatre and really enjoyed it. We knew we would want to see it again when it came out on Blu-Ray. Well it's out and delicious! The picture quality is great! Our favorite version of Scrooge has always been the 1951 Alastair Sim version. A great version, but it's nice to have a new version that's really good. I think, most of all, the things I like about this version are that they loaded up the soundtrack with Christmas music, which I always thought was lacking in other versions. I also like how the characters look like the actors. I liked it in Polar Express with the conductor looking like Tom Hanks, Zimeckis does it here too. Loved It, and it will be part of our perenial Christmas movie list.

This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. One of my favorite retellings of this story. I was a little worried to watch it the first time because I don't remember the reviews being too flattering back then, but I think it's great. It's the basic tale of A Christmas Carol. Nothing weird was added so if you've read the book or seen any of the other films, then you know what you're in for. The animation was great and the imagining of the three ghosts interesting. My nephew, who is three, really likes this movies, as well, although he does get a bit scared at the beginning when Marley's ghost comes to visit. Overall, I'd recommend this. I love it and the little ones enjoy it, too.

A Christmas Carol is my favorite story ever. I have a few versions of it on dvd. This movie is animated, which I did not realize before watching; it has a stiff look to it. Second, the voice work doesn't really "work" theatrically. Jim Carrey gives a "one note" performance throughout most of the story. Even Colin Firth sounds "one note" as well - keeping the same vocal tone, pacing etc. through most of the story. This leads me to suspect an unskilled, unimaginative director was at the helm because these fellows are both wonderful actors. I won't watch again, will put it into the donation box. A child might like it.

    Disney Video worst by far....

Movie=Good. The actual DVD itself is rediculously horrible. Either Disney tried putting too much stuff on it, the copy protection and/or porr writing quality is messing this disk up. I returned 2 DVDs & every one skips/freezes. I use a Samsung & a Sony upconvert DVD on my larger TVs & 3 off brand&built in dvd players. Seems the better players were the worst (or best) in revealing the poor quality of the DVD (freezing/poor transition btwn & during key scenes. By far the worst DVD (in terms of quality) I ever experienced. Hard to keep a 3 year old interested when he has to keep saying "the DVD is broke daddy" every time it freezes thru an entire movie!

A very lively version of "A Christmas Carol". Jim Carrey's voice work is very good; his Ghost of Christmas Past is one of the highlights. The soundtrack (music) is an important feature of the movie. Of course the animation is outstanding (as one would expect from Disney). The extras on the DVD show all of the work that went into making this film and it's quite amazing how live actors faces (Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, etc.) and movements are turned into animated characters.

I wasn't in a very good mood when I watched this and my two year old daughter kept yelling throughout so that was not a good experience. I've watched a lot of different Christmas Carol movies and thought this one would be a little more different I guess. I was bored. I think it's ok but you have to be prepared to watch that story line again before you sit down. Just the same old story to me. If I had seen this movie before I bought it I would have never wanted to purchase it.

this is a great Christmas classic redone in 3d. If you are looking for a movie with very worthy 3d effects and a pretty good story, than Christmas Carol is the movie for you. The 3D effects involves snow falling right in front of you and some pretty good depth as well. The story is pretty good does have about a 8 minuet boring part towards the end but its not enough to ruin the movie.
