Three decades after a major country is quarantined in hopes of containing a lethal and highly contagious virus nicknamed "Reaper," signs that the super-bug has resurfaced in a major city prompt desperate specialists to race back into the infected zone to find a cure in director Neil Marshall's (The Descent) miasmic speculative sci-fi thriller. Few could have foreseen the terror that the microorganism known as "Reaper" would unleash upon the unsuspecting population, and when terrified authorities quarantined the entire country in hopes of saving the human race, the streets immediately descended into chaos. Thirty years later, the inhabitants of planet Earth think that they've seen the last of the merciless killer disease, but they couldn't be more wrong. When "Reaper" reappears more powerful than ever in a major city, an elite group of professionals led by Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) are forced to travel back into the sealed-off country where the virus first broke out in order to create a cure and save humankind from certain doom. Now, as the rest of the world anxiously awaits word of their ultimate fate, Eden and her brave team are about to find out that there is indeed a hell, and they are about to journey directly into its black, envenomed heart. Also in the cast are Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell, as well as a host of veterans from Marshall's past productions, including Sean Pertwee, MyAnna Buring, Craig Conway, and Nora-Jane Noone. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Dirty Gritty Violent Sci-Fi movie

4 of 5 stars for this dirty gritty violent sci-fi movie. So a virus strikes forcing the world to enclose the entire country to prevent spread to the rest of the world. Ultimately a modern day great wall of China is built to secure the quarantine. It is assumed the whole population dies from the virus. Wrong! Many survive (hummm, natural immunity). After many years of stability, the virus spreads to England where the authorites decide they need to capture one of those immune people to create a cure. So, a para-military task force goes beyond the wall. They first go to a large city where they encounter a large collection of people who have gone "primative native" and attack the force. During their escape, they get linked to a different set of people who have gone "knights and castles". This movie is very dirty and gritty. The most graphic violence that I've seen since some of those movies in the 70's. Plenty of blood, guts, bullets, body parts and dead people. Good action, good special effects, interesting plot. Worth watching, but, be warned, it is graphic!

      Excellent action movie!!!

This is a great action movie, my wife and I loved it! I don't know what the guy in the review before this was talking about saying, "it 's not for girls". My wife took offense to that. All she watches is horror and action movies, "The gorier the better!", she says. This is actually one of her favorite movies, (plus, everyone says she looks like Rhona Mitra). This is a very fast paced and intense movie by writer/ director Neil Marshall (The Descent). We like apocalyptic films of future chaos. (It could happen, 2012 is right around the corner!) So, my WIFE and I highly recommend this film! Also, if you like films of this genre, some good ones are Tooth and Nail, Sunshine and I Am Legend.

doomsday is a pretty good movie it is kinda like escape from new york but not as good or on the same level but doomsday is worth watching and even owning on blu-ray bc the blu-ray is the unrated version and it looks and sound amazing with some extras so if you want a pretty good action movie to watch on a saturday afternoon or a friday night check it out and it also has some funny parts in it and also it has some parts that you would say i did not suspect that to happen so check it out if you want to see a pretty good action movie from start to finish

      one bad terrible horrible movie

the trailer saw partially good. my cousin said the movie was awesome. so i go and waist $30 on one of the worst movies of the year. the cinematographry was awful. the only good performance was bob hoskins. the only cool part was the main villain. now for all the downsides besides filming and lighting. the old civilization portion was straight up stupid with all the knights and arenas and stuff. the story belongs in a better movie. the ending was ridiculuos and made no since and was pointless. the only thing i liked about it was that the main girl was hot.

      Terrible.... just terrible

I was greatly disappointed with Doomsday. Doomsday was doomed right off the jump. From beginning to end, this movie is terrible. Terrible acting and a weak plot both add to your misery while watching this movie. Another problem that I just couldn't get passed was the fact that 'none' of the characters in the movie develop. The movie followed a pattern of introducing a character and then almost immediately killing them off. CAUTION to all potential buyers: Stay away from this movie; I still want my money back b/c it is so uncreative, predictable, and lame.

      Very Good

I remember seeing this with one of my buds the same day we went to go see 10,000 B.C. I really enjoyed this movie, it had so much action in it and a really sick Bentley. I didn't think this would be that good but it was surprisingly good. Theres some random things in this movie but it was good. If youre not intogory movies, then watever but if youre into action pick this up when it comes out.

Post Apocalyptic and a Fun Action Flick

One of the most fun films ive seen in the past few years, if your into post apocalyptic plots im sure youll get some enjoyment out of this and it does add a new type of twist to it as well. looking at rohna mitra for two hours is never a bad thing. if you want a fun escape for 2 hours and like action and cannibalistic bad guys then this movie is for you.

      Great Action Movie

Great Action Movie filled with a lot of senseless violence, gore, and even some cannibalism. The plot of this movie is not great. Most, if not every, post-apocolyptic films are the living vs. the un-dead; this movie is the living vs. the living. So some parts of the movie do not make a lot of sense. Great film for guys to watch with their buddies, not with their girl friend.
