Late 60's Cult Classic rides it's way to "DVD" era

As a motorcycle enthusiast myself, among many others who will/have purchased this dvd, I was glad that this came out on dvd. As the movie was filmed over 35 years ago, the technology and picture quality was not exactly as it is today. However, although the picture quality has never played a role to the enjoyment of watching this timeless cult-classic, it is definitely alot more life like as you are "riding along" with the characters so to speak. For those of us who have seen it before, One of the first things you will notice is how much crisper the scenes in which "Billy" and "Captain America" are riding through the desserts of the southwest region. Which I thought was truly stunning. Yes, it still has that late 60's early 70's picture "warmth" to it. Which is fine, and it retains it's ultimate feeling of the late 60's. Kind of like playing a vinyl record on the turntable you had when you grew up with on a saturday or sunday morning. One of the main features on the dvd is the Director's/Cast commentary. Although many of you who watch this probably won't spark too much of an interest to watch any of the extra features (including myself). It was still interesting to listen to Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda reflect on the movie they starred in, wrote, and directed. Through problems of making ends meet with the low budget for this film, and their ingenius idea to film during mardi-gras. I highly recommend this dvd "Easy Rider" to not just motorcyclists, or the rebelious teen-ager, but to any one who is interested in watching timeless works of art.

This independent film all but destroyed Hollywood with its success when every studio tried to duplicate it. Hippie best friends Billy & Wyatt (Peter Fonda & Dennis Hopper), whose disenchantment with society reflected that of cinemagoers at the time, take a motorcycle trip to the Mardi Gras. Along the way, they befriend alcoholic lawyer George (Jack Nicholson) who then accompanies them. Needless to say, things don't go the way the trio planned. The acting & music (which was basically a collection of late 1960's hits) are memorable, and the ending is surprisingly poignant.

    Going Back in Time

'Easy Rider' has aged well. Even if one is not a 'child of the 60's' this movie can still be thoroughly enjoyable and the acting is excellent. See Nicholson, Hopper and Fonda as young men and hear the music of Steppenwolf. A time for great change in this country but 'Easy Rider' shows it took guts to be different, to be oneself against a conservative backdrop. A collectors item of a time gone by. It has aged well and is brilliant in Blue Ray.

This flick is a cult classic for some but this era was a little before my time. It may be an accurate retrospect of that time period but I found the story to be too aimless. I get the hippie movement thing and the bigotry but I thought the movie needed a better story. When the movie ended I thought, is that it!

While this movie is not for everyone, it is for those that want to see a commentary on the 60s. It has held up quite well, and it shows the good bad and ugly of what was going on at the time, albeit a little outrageous. Watch Jack Nicholson's great performance.

Item arrive great. The only problem I have is how they ship it. I wish they shipped it more padded because this is a metal steelbook and it needs extra protection during transit so it does not arrive damaged with dents and bents.

I usually don't buy movies unless I've seen them already, but I made an exception here, The cover art was just too cool to pass up. Hint to Best Buy: keep producing these steelbook covers.
