A: No app is required to use the bike. You can just hop on and pedal if you like, including adjusting resistance. (Bike has to be plugged in for magnetic resistance, I think.) My wife and I each use our Ex3 without the manufacturer's app. She uses the Peloton app while I'm experimenting with Apple Fitness and streaming scenic rides. Without paying, you can still download the manufacturer's app and connect to the bike via built-in bluetooth in order to get your performance stats (MPH, RPMs, etc.) reported thru the app.I 'm happier just tracking the important stuff like calories burned thru my fitness watch (Apple Watch for me.)
Q: Does the bike work without the app? Do you need to subscribe to the service to make it work?
A: Yes and No. The bike uses an electronic controlled positioning motor to move a magnet over the weighted wheel. There is no mechanical link from the knob to the resistance magnet. Now the foundation is made, on to the answer. Without an app you can turn the wheel and get resistance. Stop pedaling and it will go away. You can use freestyle on the app and get to a repeatable resistance. However, you need an internet connection to the app before you bluetooth connect to the bike to get your resistance setting from the app to the bike.
Q: Are there people available to assemble?
A: No, we don't offer assembly services. The bike only takes 15-20 minutes to assemble.
Q: What is the largest size of tablet that we can fit in the EX3's built-in holder?
A: We have tested all the way up to a iPad Pro 12.9".
Q: What country is this product made in?
A: China
A: This bike has pedals that are SPD compatible on one side and has cages on the other side. If you decided to use a different type of pedal (SPD-SL or Keo/Look), you could change those pedals out.
Q: Can you use the Pelton app with this bike ?
A: Yes - my wife often does. She watches the exercise class on a TV 3 feet away from the bike. (Video is streamed from an iPad to the TV. You can also just watch on your iPad mounted on the tablet holder on the bike. What you don't get versus a Peloton bike is 2 things: 1 - camera connectivity to the Peloton servers. (The intent is to be able to see and speak with another Peloton-using friend taking the same class.) We don't miss this at all, as we exercise solo at ^;30 in the morning. 2- a data link between the bike and the Peloton app to record your health and class stats. (So you'll never be on a Peloton leaderboard with this bike.) We don't miss either of these features, and happy with our purchase.
Q: Are the 2# weights and holder included?
A: The EX3 does come with a weight holder but does not include the weights.
