Synopsis

Fame
Fame is set at New York's High School of Performing Arts, where talented teens train for show-business careers. The film concentrates on five of the most gifted students: singer Irene Cara, actors Paul McCrane and Barry Miller, dancer Gene Anthony Ray, and musician Lee Currieri. More so than the subsequent TV series Fame, the film emphasizes the importance of keeping up one's academic achievements in this specialized school. The faculty includes no-nonsense English teacher Ann Meara, erudite musical instructor Albert Hague, and martinet dance teacher Debbie Allen. Of the film's cast, Ray, Currieri, Allen and Hague were carried over to the TV version of Fame, which premiered in 1981. The score for the film version of Fame was honored with an Academy Award. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is THE movie if you've ever attended a Performing Arts High School or if you're into dance, theater, music, and acting!!! This was my mom's favorite movie when she was younger and now it's mine - I didn't even know it was hers! Haha. Life is just like in the movie. It's rough when you want to be a star! So much competition plus you've got your own issues to deal with. The actors in here are amazing. Of course, everyone knows Irene Cara's songs "Fame" and "Out Here On My Own". Who will ever forget the kids dancing on taxi cabs in the middle of NYC? I can't wait for the new FAME to come out, it better live up and be as good as this one!!!

If you're a arts student of dance, music, drama, etc. or you just love the music and dancing of the late 70's, early 80's culture, you'll probably get a really kick out of this classic film. Taking place in a New York high school for the performing arts, you'll experience the age old difficulties that all high school students experience, even today. But you'll also get a really good sound track and some talented dancing, including break dancing. It was the early 80's after all...
