Synopsis

The Fantastic Planet
A French/Czech co-production, the dream-like La Planete Sauvage concerns the degradation of the Oms, human-like creatures on the futuristic planet Yagam. The Oms are kept as pets and beasts of burden by the Draggs, 39-foot beings who comprise Yagam's ruling class. The status quo is upset when Terr, one of the Oms, accidentally receives an education, whereupon he organizes the other Oms to demand equality with the Draggs. Based on Stefen Wul's novel Ems En Serie, Fantastic Planet was the winner of a 1973 Cannes Film Festival grand prize. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

    Expand your mind!!!

For anyone who enjoys a good proking of the mind then this film is for you. I first saw this in 1993 when I was only 12 years old ( for some probably too young to have seen this film ) and it definately opened up new things for me. Nothing in this film is definate; there is a progressive story but it keeps you intrigued throughout. The music may seem too quiet at times but its purpose is served by giving the right balance of what you need to hear and what you don't need to hear. The ending is somewhat abrupt but the journey is well worth it. I wish I could be more descriptive but it's been 12 years since I've seen it as this is the first time for a dvd release and the VHS tape has been out of print for quite some time. This is definately a film you will never forget!!!
