Q: How well does the bin contain the shredded paper? Does it make a mess when you empty it?
A: The W-11C has a lift off lid. This removable lid allows you to easily empty the shred bin into an alternate garbage can or bag. This particular shredder also has a lip on the front of the machine which would facilitate you to easily determine how full the shred bin is at any given time. This is not a mesh bin.
Q: How long will it shred before it overheats?
A: This machine is designed for smaller personal shred jobs and is meant to be used with a 5 minutes on by 20 minutes off run time to allow for cooling.
Q: Emptying
A: You have to lift the shredder from the bin to empty. Very easy!
Q: How loud is this unit when in use? Decibels.
A: The shredder is the best I have used. On a scale of 1 to 10 it's about a 5. It pretty loud when you next to it, but when i close the door my wife hardly hears it from the other side.
Q: Will this shred junk mail without taking it out of the envelope? Thanks
A: The manufacturer days don't do it, but I have done it without adverse consequences as long as the mail is thin (which leaves out most junk mail).
Q: How long can it run without over heating?
A: Mine starts getting warm after about 5 minutes of constant use. I'm not sure what "over-heating" looks/feels like, but mine has never shut-down from too much use. Sorry if this doesn't help much. I will say that keeping the teeth lubricated is a really good idea, I just use some clean vegetable oil that has soaked-in on a single, thin paper plate, after maybe an hour of use.
Q: Does the power cord come with or do you have to buy it separately.
A: Although I bought this shredder as a gift, I have owned a similar Fellowes shredder for years and the power cord does come with the unit
A: You have to take your time and pick out the pieces of paper very carefully with some tweezers or such don't be in a hurry it will start working again after paper is cleared.
