Synopsis

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
The Joes reteam to prevent Cobra from achieving total world domination in this sequel that picks up shortly after the events of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. The Nanomite threat has been neutralized, and the U.S. government has imprisoned Cobra Commander and Destro in an inescapable subterranean prison. When the leader of Pakistan is assassinated, the U.S. president (Jonathan Pryce) calls on the Joes to secure Pakistan's nuclear warheads before they fall into enemy hands. In the wake of successfully completing their mission, however, the Joes are decimated in a devastating surprise attack. When the smoke clears, Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), and Flint (D.J. Cotrona) are the sole survivors. They're convinced that something is amiss in the White House, and as Lady Jaye theorizes that an imposter is pretending to be the commander in chief, bad guys Storm Shadow (Lee Byung-hun) and Firefly (Ray Stevenson) team up to break Cobra Commander (Luke Bracey) out of prison. Later, as Storm Shadow retreats into the mountains to recover from burns incurred in the extraction, Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and Jinx (Elodie Yung) manage to capture the elusive white ninja, in the process discovering a shocking secret about his past and learning that Zartan (Arnold Vosloo), posing as the president, has called an international summit to discuss nuclear disarmament in order to bring the leaders of the world to their knees before the diabolical Cobra Commander. Now, as Cobra holds the entire globe hostage with a revolutionary new weapon placed on satellites orbiting the planet, it's up to the Joes and a trustworthy old friend to save the day., Rovi

I remember watching the first G.I. Joe film back in 2009, and remember being indifferent to it. Channing Tatum back then was a poor actor in what I seen him in (Step Up, Dear John, etc.) and his performance in the first one was bland as all get out, along with everyone else except Marlon Wayans (even besting Joseph Gordon-Levitt) being mediocre, a mediocre script with a meh story, and just being an uninspired flick. I didn't have too high hopes, seeing they hired Jon M. Chu, who had done two Step Up films and the Bieber documentary, and Channing Tatum back as Duke, and I was just crushed. Then, Tatum had a stellar comeback and proved that he can act and surprised us in The Vow, Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street. The Rock also starred in this film and when the trailer was released, I instantly said, "Must see G.I. Joe II". Then, 3 weeks before the film was released, it was delayed til March 2013. I was upset and thought maybe to give Tatum more scenes, but then I read on the news header 3D up conversion. Still, I was stoked, kept seeing more trailers, the half time clip during the Super Bowl keeping me enticed. Finally seeing the film, my instincts were correct and I had a great time with this film. Fun action, charismatic performance from The Rock, good story and surprisingly good 3D. This film is everything the first one should have been, which is a lean mean action film that doesn't indulge in back story, and had the Joes with no exosuits. The picture quality is terrific as is the fast and furious (*wink*) soundtrack and is easily a show off disc for your set up. This BBY exclusive includes the Unrated Action Cut, which add around 10 minutes of length but around 25 minutes of new footage, and offers nearly an hour of extras, but doesn't include the theatrical cut (The DVD included with the set contains this cut) and the extras that disc has. If you want the full package, which includes a couple of extra featurettes and the commentary, pick up both sets, because they both are recommended.

I do not own the first one, at the time I didn't really enjoy it. So when Best Buy was selling the second in 3D, Steel Book for $9.99, I decided to pick it up and give it a try. And I'm glad that I did! I enjoyed the story, the action, characters, actors, and the biggest reason, the 3D! And from the second the movie started, I was in love with the 3D! I was surprised because I had read that the release of the movie was delayed for the conversion. This isn't what I would call a good sign. But as far as I'm concerted, if you are looking for an action movie that is in 3D, you should enjoy this one. You get the 3D disk, the 2D disk with extras like featurettes, deleted scenes, and commentary by the director and producer, and DVD with the movie. And let's not forget you have your choice of HD streaming or download from Itunes or Ultraviolet. I'm very glad that I got this for $9.99, and that you will to!

This is a sequel to 2009 G.I. Joe Rise of Cobra. As with most sequels they rarely live up to the hype of the original.. however the original was met with mixed reviews. I personally enjoyed this movie and found that it was on par with original and felt that i got what i payed for. A fast paced action blow em up movie based on a childhood favorite cartoon. If your not a fan of G.I. JOE you may be lost with the added characters as this movie does not flesh out character introductions that well. The writing was a little too cliche for it's own good. It works well with Saturday morning cartoons but not so well with big budget theatrical movies. If you go into this with the idea of a live action cartoon i think you will be quite pleased with the overall presentation. if you are a child you will love this movie, if your an adult that remembers G.I. Joe from your childhood you will enjoy this movie. If your new to this franchise and watching this because of the actors that are in it... you might come away disappointed. It is what it is so with that said.. GO JOE !!!

I didn't really go into watching this movie with high hopes since the first GI Joe movie really let me down, but I am glad my daughter made me watch it (she had to see Channing Tatum and The Rock). This was what I was hoping the first GI Joe movie would have been, and that is a true to life GI Joe movie. Being a man who grew up watching the GI Joe cartoons, I can appreciate the outlandish action sequences and the direction of the movie. I can also truly say that this was a true to form GI Joe movie. They did a great job of getting the feel of GI Joe into the movie and didn't move from that path. Being an action movie, there are moments where you catch yourself saying "Come On!!", but once you remember what you are watching and what it is based on, you let those feelings and thoughts go. The ninja fight scene on the mountain side is precisely what I mean, but as you watch it play out, you just know that this fits and works. I would definitely say watch the movie if you are a fan of GI Joe and you will not be disappointed.

Our family enjoyed the movie for the most part. We are by no means movie critics or overly critical of movies. We had fun watching the movie and that's what matters. The acting was so-so but we are also talking about a GI-Joe movie so you shouldn't be expecting a DiCaprio type performance anyway. Some of the corny acting is actually fun sometimes. Brings a good laugh to the film. Overall it was a fun experience which is what it is all about. If I want to watch an Oscar worthy film, then I wouldn't typically choose this. If I want my eyes to flash all over my screen and have my ear drums blown out by stuff blowing up, then this is going in the blu-ray player!

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" is a fun action movie based on the G.I. comic books and action figures. It is a sequel to "G. I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra" released in 2009. It is filled with fast paced action and some great special affects. The picture quality looks incredible. Details are sharp and the colors are vibrant. The sound is also great with a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 lossless soundtrack. Extras include deleted scenes and commentary. Roadblock, the main character, is played by Dwyane Johnson. General Colton, who is played by Bruce Willis, must stop a Cobra Commander takeover from within the government. The movie is both fun and entertaining.

This movie has it all; cool military hardware, stuff blowing up and over-the-top action; and of course The Rock! The story is your typical "bad guy trying to take over the world" scenario. So, if you want a deep plot, read a book. The 3D blew me away. It looked as though many of the combat scenes were planned with 3D in mind. I only found Avatar's 3D better which is mostly because of a more interesting landscape. The sound is fantastic; better crank up the sub-woofer! I found nothing bad about this movie.

Make no mistake; G.I. Joe: Retaliation is by no means a great movie. It also isn't horrible. The parties involved this time around seemed to actually understand and care about the A Real American Hero version of G.I. Joe, and John Chu did a respectable job as director. The extended action scenes make more sense and the scenes added for character development actually make characters like Jinx and Blind Master worthwhile. If you really must watch G.I. Joe: Retaliation, this is the version to watch.
