Everything turned out well. I bought it as an open box and the only thing that it was missing was the mounting plate. Other than that everything worked perfect. It went right on to the existing mounting plate from the old microwave.
Pretty decent microwave. Does what it’s supposed to do however mine is coming unglued. I guess the stainless steel front is glued to the door and the adhesive is starting to wear off. I have only had the microwave for three months!
Installation was a bit annoying since the mounting holes (already in our cabinet) that were used to insert the bolts that screw into the top of this microwave, didn't line up with this model's mounting threads. So we had to drill new holes in our cabinet. Also, the wall mounting bracket has changed from 4 tabs to 2 tabs, and of course they are also in different locations, meaning the wall bracket had to be changed. It would have been nice to save those steps during installation. Once mounted, the microwave looks nice and seems to work fine.

Good, basic microwave
I actually placed an order for this microwave in mid May. The item did not come in & order cancelled. I placed a second order early June which was ready for pick up late June, and was installed early July.
Installation was made using the previous wall bracket, but more holes were required to attach to the upper cabinet. Not too bad, took about an hour with 2 people.
The microwave operates as expected, although it is still new. Hope it lasts longer than the last one!

Please don’t buy a GE kitchen appliance

Please don’t buy this microwave. I rarely write review but enough is enough. I have had two of these microwaves one lasted a week another a month and a half. The first I returned to Best Buy because it was under 15 days. I bought the second because I was assured that I must have got lemon. I feel foolish that I listened but I did and the other microwave lasted over the return date to Best Buy and the factory warranty took over (even though I purchased an extended warranty form Best Buy, nonetheless, the GE factory warranty is the one I was told to use by Best Buy). It has since been 4 months with no fix. The first scheduled appointment (which took 6 weeks) I was told a part was needed and a re-schedule date was made. I took the day off to meet the repairman when I received a phone call late in the day and was told the part had not arrived and they would have to reschedule again. I was also told that the part would have to be sent to my house and should call to have someone promptly repair the microwave. Well the part has finally shown up three weeks later and every time I call l’m I hung up on if the phone even gets through. The website is no help either. As I’m writing this review I’ve finally got through and I’ve been on hold for 2 hour and 14 minutes and on my wife’s phone 2 hours. Firstly Best Buy has little help and GE has been horrendous, I will never buy another GE product and if I can save anyone else from this experience I at least done something. I should just go buy another brand of microwave and eat the cost, because, I need a microwave.

A:AnswerThere is a known issue with this model number jvm3160..... microwave blowing door switches and tripping the breaker when door is open and/or closed. the microwave door was manufactured incorrectly which according to the manufacture causes this issue to occur. According to the manufacture, the repair is to replace the entire door assembly, the door switches, and the switch holder. The repair cost more than buying a new microwave. And we have seen it on microwaves from three years old and newer some being one and a half years old. We have tried just replacing the door switches, didn’t work. We have tried replacing the door switches and the switch holder, didn’t work. Best bet is just to buy a new microwave and we advise buying a five year extended warranty with it. Keep in mind that about 8 to 9 years ago or so GE appliance division was bought out by HAIER appliances. All appliances, especially microwaves, even the more expensive ones, are all made with cheaper parts nowadays. So getting five years of usage out of any appliance is considered normal. I would advise to get a 5 year extended warranty with any appliances you by now. so at least your appliance will be covered for five years. Stay far away from Samsung and LG appliances. You will thank me later.
A:AnswerHello Inquirer - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and we are happy to help you. This microwave is ready to be installed as exhausting outside through the top of the unit. However, you can change the venting to be internally vented or recirculating. Instructions for changing the venting can be found in the Owner's Manual. We hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
A:AnswerNick, I just bought model JVM6175SKSS to replace my old GE (that was at least 10 years old)
and it was a breeze to install with the same bracket and hole location for the plug.
All the settings pretty much the same too. Recommend

A:AnswerHi Rob- All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions. When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. We suggest models GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave Oven JVM6172SKSS and GE® 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Sensor Microwave Oven
