    • Washing Mechanism: Agitator (There are two washing mechanisms to choose from in today's washing machines: agitators or impellers. An agitator is a column located in the center of the washing tub. It may be finned or vaned, and works to clean clothes by rotating and rubbing against clothes to break down stains. An impeller is a low-profile cone at the bottom of the tub that uses fins, cones, or discs to create motion. This motion pushes clothes to rub against each other, versus against an agitator, to break down dirt.)

Q: Does this stackable washer and dryer run on 110 volt?

A: Hi Krnhny13- Unitized washer dryer units only have one power cord. There is not a separate cord for the washer and the dryer. Electric models should be connected to a dedicated 240V or 208V 30-amp time-delay fuse or circuit breaker. The 240/208V will power the dryer, and the unit internally steps it down to 110/120V for the washer. The power cord should be purchased separately. Thanks for choosing GE! SUE@GEA

Q: Per the side view photo on the GE web site, the back of the dryer is farther back than the back of the washer so with side venting, the back of the machine can be against the back wall. Is this correct ? If yes, is it 30.87 " to the washer front?

A: Hi HerbK- On GUD27 unitized washer/dryer units, the dryer is deeper in the rear than the washer. The overhang is 4" past the back panel of the washer, which means it sticks out past the vent, electrical, and plumbing connections. The dryer can sit up against a wall without adding any extra depth to the unit. This provides space for the connections in the rear. Because of this overhang, the unit does not need knockouts to vent to the left or right side. The vent elbow can be turned left, right, or down as needed. We suggest to view the Installation Instructions for dimensions and details (See 27” NOMINAL PRODUCT DIMENSIONS page 2) : http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=31-16781-1.pdf - Keep in touch! Q: Is the agitator suppose to go slow. I bought this and it is agitating very slow. It doesnt seem right.

A: Hi Jaye - Many top-load washers have a "traditional" agitator. It has spiral fins that turn through the water during the wash cycle. This action moves the water, which in turn moves the clothes down against the agitator into the water and up the sides of the washer. The slow movement is normal and gentle on clothes. You can view a video of the normal sound you may hear during agitation: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=36011 - Thanks for choosing GE. Keep in touch at 1-800-626-2005 or GEAppliances.com - Sue

Q: Really love our GE washer dryer combo. Is there a way to have an “end of cycle buzzer” on the dryer? That’s the only real negative we have except for the noisy wash cycle. Model. GUD27ESSMWH

A: Hi there, thanks for leaving a question! There is no end of cycle signal for the washer or the dryer, we're sorry about that! We appreciate your feedback though, we're always looking for ways to improve. If you'd like you can take a look at an article on our website titled "WASHER - UNITIZED WASHER NORMAL SOUNDS" to see if it helps to clear things up. Hope you're staying safe. -Michael@GEA

Q: I live in a condo and the dryer vent must be on the left side. This unit does not have knockouts to place the vent on the left. Can I have someone cut a hole on the left section where there is usually a knockout so that I can vent it on the left?

A: Hi Mojo - This unit can be vented from the rear, left and right sides. The dryer is deeper in the rear than the washer. Please reference page 15 of the Installation Guide for complete details on venting from the left: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=31-16781-3.pdf - Thanks for your interest in GE! Sue

Q: What are the measurements of the complete unit? I only have room for a 25 x 27 inch machine. (Depth x width)

A: The combo dryer and washer measure 75.875 inches in height, 26.75 inches in width and 30.875 inches in depth.

Q: What is the material of the drum? (The description just says "Other".)

A: Hi Bargainseeker23- The washer basket is stainless steel. The dryer drum is DuraDrum which is a galvanized steel drum that is double coated with tough polyester paint and backed with a stainless steel rear. The drum is white in color, with the shine, smoothness, and durability of stainless steel in the back of the drum. Thanks for viewing GE. Keep in touch! SUE@GEA

    Small laundry room solution

After re-designing our laundry area, we ended up with a small room for washer/dryer/utility sink. We had front-loaders and decided to go stacked, but stacked front loaders still took up too much space so we went with the Laundry Center. Love it. It's 3.8cu ft vs about 4.5 with front loaders...no big deal. It handled queen comforter. It is a little loud is my only issue. The dryer is fantastic. The cycles of both machines are about the same amount of time, so you can just keep adding loads without much waiting for the dry to open up. Love it.

    Sturdy, spacious, some quirks...

This is a sturdy & large-volume unit, and it's nice to have a color option other than basic white for people who only have one 220 outlet and a compact laundry space. The washer spin cycle seems especially long, while the dryer cycles are fast and efficient. I can already think of a few improvements: The installers mentioned that some laundry centers allow the venting duct to project from the side, in order to maximize the available space behind the unit. Because this model only allows for it to go straight out the back, it was very hard to fit into our compact condo space... and the duct has already come loose as a result. Why can't manufacturers of these units create an accessory that allows for a tight-space option to the usual large venting duct? Second, the control dial for the dryer cycles is very tight... unnecessarily so. It feels like it's not going to last very long, because it doesn't turn smoothly and easily. I was surprised that it isn't better crafted, with "clicks" to move easily to each cycle. It feels like we have to fight with it to turn it to our preferred selection. Very odd. Finally, the washer makes some odd noises while in the fill cycle. And some of the finish work on the interior plastic pieces could be better - a lot of sharp edges were left on the top of the agitator.

    So far, so good

I like the fact that it came in grey so it doesn’t stand out in the spare bedroom. We needed a washer, dryer set upstairs that didn’t take up much room. It’s a little more noisy than we’re used to (our other sets were in the basement), but we’re getting used to it. I wish they would redesign the dryer lint filter and replace them for purchasers. The lint tends to get back on the clothes.
