Q: how loud when washing and drying?
A: The wash cyle is very loud. It is a repeatious grinding sound that goes on and on. The spin cyle is very loud drowning out every other sound in the laundry room and beyond. You hear a clear and loud knocking sound that could be someone at your front door. Both the washer dial and the dryer dial/controls are unnecessarily complex. I know what I need the machines to do. I do not need or want the dials to offer me their opinions of what the machines are set to do. The wash tub capacity and the dryer capacity are larger that my previous GE space saver unit (circa 2002).
A: Hi Barb - Thanks for reaching out to us. We are sorry to hear of the "grease" marks. Black marks on clothing may be the result of the item rubbing between the dryer drum and drum slides. This may occur if the dryer drum slides are worn or a felt seal is mispositioned or defective. A qualified service technician is required for an accurate diagnosis. A: You can use both the washer and dryer simultaneously. It will get a little loud, but beyond that, it works perfectly well.
Q: Is the gas version capable of being converted to LP? If so are additional parts/cost required?
A: Hi Mark - Gas dryers are factory-equipped for natural gas. The gas dryer can be converted for Liquid Propane (LP) gas, which requires an optional conversion kit WE25M74 (sold separately). We recommend a qualified installer or servicer convert the gas dryer to the proper gas supply needed. The conversion must be in accordance with the our instructions and all codes and requirements of the authority having jurisdiction. Thanks for choosing GE! Sue
Q: Why is the wash cycle so noisy?
A: Hello Bruce - Thank you for reaching out about your unitized laundry unit. You can find the normal sounds for your unit here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=36011 Please let us know if you have any more questions. - JB
A: Hi Shorty - Many current top-load washers with a Lid Lock feature will lock while the washer is filling and spinning. On these models, it is critical that the lid stays down while it is filling if you are using Precise Fill (or Auto Fill) rather than selecting a specific load size. Precise Fill senses the load and fills appropriately, so you don't want to add items while it is filling. The washer will not fill while the lid is up when using Precise Fill. On models with a Lid Lock and both Precise Fill and individual load size selections (ex. small, medium, large, super), including GUD27GSSMWW, the washer will fill with the lid up when you select a specific load size. This is because the washer does not use load sensing to fill for a set load size. Thanks for choosing GE. Enjoy! Sue
A: Since nobody has responded, I will take a stab. I believe that what you read in the delivery description refers to actually removing the metal, circular "punch out" on the left side of your dryer so that the internal vent hose comes out of the unit on the left rather than out from the back. This is more of a DIY project that can be done but that installers don't usually perform. Your current set up is probably vented out the back of the dryer and then routed to the left (via use of an elbow) and attaches to the wall vent opening that leads outside. I have been reseaching this week and learned that most if not all installation guys only do what is called "hook up." That means plugging in, attaching new gas lines, new water lines and new rigid venting (required for gas, not electric). I think installers are pleased not to have to make any alterations to the setup and can simply install your new vent hose the exact same way the old one was. I hope I did not confuse you.

Am happy with the machine. Even though the stack unit is small the inside spaces are a great size....no problem for drying and washing large sheets and towels. My disappointment is that the washer is noisy. I make sure there is enough water per load and I try to do loads on light to help. Also the agitator does tend to twist large items. They look like a rope after the spin cycle no matter how I load it so that the inside of the drum is balanced.

Being a first time owner I’m over the moon. It’s a space saver but both washer and dryer are super spacious. It works well. I’m still learning how to use it. I want to be able to use every cycle on both machines as they should be, Enjoy your day!
