Q: QuestionIs the C by GE app required to control this hardware, or can the switch be "discovered" by other apps and controlled by them instead of the C by GE app? Same question for the smart plugs mfged by C by GE.
Asked by dogowner24.
- A:Answer I needed the app to install it but afterwards I have been using Alexa to control them. Hope that answers your question.

Q: QuestionWill this switch work with a 4 T-12 tube fluorescent fixture? What is the maximum amperage the switch can handle?
Asked by Blair.
- A:Answer I don't think so. My garage lights are 4 T-8 tube fluorescent tubes and they don't quite work with this light switch. The light tubes do switch on but have trouble staying steady. Fluorescent tubes are also not officially supported by this 3-wire switch, which probably has something to do with the way it "steals" power from the line/load without the neutral wire. The switch is rated at 5A for incandescent lights but only 1.25A for LEDs. I am not exactly sure why the difference in amperage ratings but it should be the same as most other light switches.

Q: QuestionIn order to replace a three way switch, do I need two of these switches to have on both ends or can I just replace one and leave the mechanical paddle switch?
Asked by Ed.
- A:Answer Hi, Ed. Thank you for reaching out with your question. You would need both locations to have C by GE Smart switches in order to work. I hope this information helps! if you have anymore questions, please do not hesitate to email help@cbyge.com or call 1-844-302-2943. - C by GE Support
