First off let me start by saying the 1 star review is for the way Best Buy does pre-orders. Will NEVER do another one with best buy. Only reason i did it with them is game stop messed mine up and ordered the wrong version of the game. And best buy was the only one that had it in stock at the time. Have to pay the entire thing and can't pay as you go. Think I'll stick with Game Stop from now on with my pre orders since you can pay on them here n there. The collection i got with this game was awesome.I'd definitely give that 5+ stars. Love the statue and all the figures that came with it. The cloth map is now framed and hanging on my wall as is the lithograph. The dlc was a little under whelming but really when isn't it. Have to figure out a way to display the head key chain and the ring. Now onto the game it's self. Graphics wise and the overall feel of playing it I'd give it 5 stars. The visuals in the different realms and the lake are off the charts. But past that it's not that great. Extremely repetitive enemies (only change what they do or give it ice or fire) and gets boring seeing the same things over and over and over and over. Not something you'd expect from a GOW game made these days (yes past ones do it as well but not to this degree). Like the addition of the story line with the kid as well (gets to the point though i wanted to chop his head off..lol). The addition of the head was funny as well with his smart elect comments. Don't see much replay value as like i said it gets repetitive. And the hardest enemies are actually side missions. Yes i'm referring to the Valkyries. The Valkyrie Queen...yeah right. Overall it could have been WAY WAY better. Hope future installments will think about the non repetitive enemies and stuff as well not just the graphics n stuff. Oh well at least I got a great collection out of it...lol

Great game, easy contender for Game of the Year!

The game is fantastic! It's worth your time, for sure, if you like Action/RPG genre games at all, or great, touching stories. The game's upgrade and equipment/skill systems are deep and yet easy enough to understand - there are a million ways to tackle each situation you encounter, shortly after you leave the "tutorial" section of the game, it opens up into a dizzying array of options to manage and upgrade... but spend a few minutes understanding it, and it's great - real depth, and variety. The combat feels weighty and exciting, yet is easy enough to control and very responsive. I played the game on a 4K HDR OLED, and I couldn't believe how beautiful it looks overall. Another great factor is the sheer awe you'll likely experience at the beauty and design of some places and people in the world. This game was well worth buying the collector's edition, as the extras it comes with are neat and plentiful - but I would have avoided it if I didn't have 20% off with BB Gamer's Club (which is a fantastic deal if you buy more than 1-2 ~$60 - or less - games each year. With the discount and the points of cashback I receive by using it with my BB rewardzone membership and credit card (all free to sign up for - why not?), it only ended up costing me ~$110 instead of $150. Because of this, I find myself still buying phsyical games and buy them from Best Buy, because Amazon's similar service is just not nearly as good (just being able to use it for non-pre-orders is great, and not available on Amazon). Support this game if you find it even remotely interesting, and give it a try!

I had a lot of reservations going into the game with the huge shift in tone for the series and after playing the middling God of War Ascension. I was on the fence but decided to splurge for the Stone Mason Edition and boy am I glad that I did! A solid statue by Gentle Giant and the lithograph were worth it for me. I usually don't get hooked by games these days. Even the games I beat these days tend to take me at least a month or two. Not the case for God of War - I cruised through the game on Normal in a week. I almost never replay games but am thinking about giving this a go on Hard, as Normal was not as challenging as I expected it to be (although I've heard horror stories about the hardest difficulty, Give Me God of War, which I will likely avoid). With Soulsborne inspired combat, gorgeous visuals (especially on the PS4 Pro), and wonderful pacing, I could not put this game down until the final credits rolled. Now if I could only find some time to deal with those pesky optional bosses...

This is a very well done restart of a franchise that had been on it's last leg. God of War 3 was a good game, but had failed to live up to it's predecessors, and Ascension was one that I couldn't really get into. When I saw the trailers for this one, it made me excited for the series again. The gameplay is the same old GOW, but it's adds many newer elements that take it to a new level for me. It's slightly open world, but not overwhelmingly so. The combat is still just as challenging as the old ones, but having Atreus as support makes it so much more diverse. As for the Stone Mason collector's edition items, I couldn't be happier. The large statue of Kratos and Atreus is so well detailed, and the smaller figurines are well designed too. If you are a fan of loot, I'd say get this.

      A Much Needed Reinvention?

God of War for PS4 is many things. It’s beautiful reinvention of a classic series. It’s one of Sony Santa Monica’s most crowning achievements and it’s the reason why quality exclusives are still SO important in driving the industry standards to new heights. We saw it with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We saw it with Super Mario Odyssey... and now we see it with God of War. The only issue is that it resembles the God of War of old in only brief glimpses, instead looking to reinvent Kratos with gameplay mechanics and loops that more accurately emulate the Uncharted and Tomb Raider adventures than anything in Kratos’ past appearances. There’s more of an emphasis on exploration in a much larger, less linear world than before. Even combat is clumsily mapped to shoulder buttons. A great game, yes, but not a great God of War.

First off the graphics of this game are amazing! The entire game is one continuous shot from beginning to end; which sounds cool but also it makes such a big difference in the immersion and enjoyment of the game. It has dark souls lite combat which is a huge step forward from some of the hack and slash tendencies of the earlier games in the series. The story and set pieces are amazing as usual with this series. I really liked the level progression and the skill tree system instead of a simple upgrade system. The same can be said for the weapons and armor. The exploration and the collectibles added a lot of fun without seeming like fluff to make the game longer. It has everything you could ask for in the collectors edition and very good quality. Highly recommended!

What more can be said that has not already? This game is a total masterpiece from top to bottom. Fantastic graphics, musical score, acting, etc.. But where this game truly shines is the depth of the super smooth combat system, and how well written the story and dialogue are with Kratos and Atreus. Prepare to be brought through an emotional journey with lots of ups and downs! The Stone Mason's Edition definitely made me an offer I could not refuse combined with GCU. Everything was so well packaged and of good quality. The statue itself is larger than I expected, has very good weight to it (does not feel 'cheap'), and is very well painted/detailed. No matter which version you choose, you will NOT be disappointed!

While I’m not a huge fan of the open environment gameplay, I’m finding that God’s of War still retains enough of its predecessors to make it compelling. So far it seems to be a bit more focused on combat—I’ve always been more of a puzzle/environment fan, but if you’re into combat, you’ll love this game. The stone mason’s edition contains several extras. The God of War figurine is nicely detailed, but I’m really not sure what to do with it. It’s not like I’m going to have a figurine of someone being decapitated in my living room. The included ring is better quality than I was expecting, but I don’t know who would be able to wear it. It’s huge, It’s even too big to fit on my thumb.
