The first two season seemed very rushed, trying to introduce too many characters too fast in a flurry of violence which made them to make them seem like villains too early. This past season 3 really was able to develop a lot of the lasting characters a lot more and moved away from the dark centrally controlled underworld. The drama remains, The Penguin retains a major role (running for mayor nonetheless!) and Edward Nygma gets in over his head. Bruce Wayne begins to break out of his shell as a child begins to adopt a new "rich spoiled brat" persona, which will shape his alter ego. We see more of Selina Kyle becoming more into the role of nemesis instead of friend, Gordon being a true badass and pushing past his fears and inhibitions and Bullock developing more of a brash attitude and showing that he still has a soft side. I enjoyed this season the most over the previous two.

Gotham is developing into my favorite TV series from the DC universe of characters. Initially when the first season premiered I admit to a little disappointment seeing that this was set pre-Batman with the emphasis/focus on a young James Gorden. But over the course of three seasons Gotham continues to grow and showcase the origin, evolution, and complex interrelationships of the villains and heroes "pre-Batman". This third season also shows the further development of young Bruce Wayne starting to become Batman. The third season is the best so far. Now that Season four is airing new episodes and well underway it continues to deliver and does not disappoint.

While I enjoy Gotham, as a long time comic book fan I find the show frustrating. The idea of a Gotham City before Batman just never seemed like a good idea to me. Had they gone with a live action version of GCPD it would have been better. But this is about the TV show and the show has its moments. There are enough special feature on this set to satisfy those of us that like those types of things with their DVD/Blu-Ray collections. For the casual Batman fan, there is enough recognition on most of the characters to not confuse folks, and a stellar cast keeps the viewer engaged from week to week or episode to episode if you are buying it on disc.

To me, this show is worth watching once. So typically I would not recommend buying it but if you or someone in your household likes to watch things multiple times it is definitely worth the buy. It is a great show that like Smallville goes too far into the heroes/villains surrounding the superhero the show is centered around to make sense but just throw your superhero logic (superheros being logical is funny I know but bear with me), out the window and enjoy the show for what it is, entertainment with elements of things you probably like about Batman.

Season 3 is nothing short of fantastic. In the beginning Gotham was a little slow in the start and critics have voiced that it was too kid or PG oriented and that we as adults expected more. However, it is a show that has been getting better and better progressively. Season 3 is where things are starting to take shape of what they will be like. It is a great show and personally I cannot wait until we get around season 6 or 8. I do hope that it gets darker and grittier progressively not abruptly.

As expected from previous years, Season 3 is very strong visually, many of the characters are interesting, and some have supernatural abilities. The downside is that there is no larger than life story line and there are not many big surprises. Expect to see lots of typical soap opera scenes and dialogue. Most of the shows are not very riveting, but might hold your attention long enough to see it through. Some people love the show. I could take it or leave it.

Gotham continues to be the best of all the DC Universe shows with the highest production values and the most unique tone. As exciting as it is to see these characters develop and as strong as the acting is, I felt the love interest pursuit of The Riddler by The Penguin was more than I was interested in seeing... not that there's anything wrong with that...
