Synopsis

Idiocracy
Mike Judge wrote and directed this offbeat sci-fi comedy which gives a new meaning to the expression "people are getting dumber all the time." In 2005, Pvt. Joe Bowers (Luke Wilson) is a soldier chosen to take part in a secret military scientific experiment in which he will be put into induced hibernation for one year, along with a woman named Rita (Maya Rudolph). Bowers is chosen for the assignment because he is statistically the most average man in the Army, while Rita is a hooker ordered to do some community service; however, Bowers and Rita are forgotten when the military base where the experiment took place is closed down, and when they wake up in the year 2505, Bowers finds himself living in a society where intelligence has taken such a landslide he's now the smartest man in the world. Can Bowers save America from its own remarkable stupidity, and he can he get the dunderheads around him to believe what he says? Produced under the title 3001, Idiocracy also stars Dax Shepard as Bowers's numb-skull lawyer, Stephen Root as a judge, and Terry Crews as Camacho, a former porn star and professional wrestler who is now president of the United States. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Heavyhanded and ironic, but not always too far off

As far as allegories go, there's a healthy mix of stinging social commentary with the absurd. Being over a decade old only helps the film in terms of what has gotten better or worse since it was made. And that being subjective, it is something I recommend one watch on their own. But I found that the movie went by faster than I'd expected. DVD quality is what one would expect - widescreen, decent compression level, color and contrast, and sound are all what one would expect. Might make for a nice Blu-Ray release one day as well.

I searched high and low for this movie locally because I did not want to buy it online. I even checked the local Best Buy a couple of times before I found it in stock. The movie itself has an intriguing plot which is convincingly plausible. Two average people get frozen in time as part of a military experiment and wake up years later to find themselves as the smartest people on the planet. It is a true comedy that shines some light on the dumbing down of our culture. The DVD itself contained little more than the feature, but the deleted scenes were worth a look. The navigation on the main menu wasn't intuitive. As far as kids go, make sure to check the movie's rating. Oh....and, It's got what plants crave.

To anyone who has seen Back to the Future 2, yeah they got a couple of things right which to me is amazing, but this movie shows how our society will be in the future. This satirical film follows the story of a military officer being frozen from modern times and waking up in the future where society has basically lost intelligence, hit huge poverty levels, and morality hitting an all time low. I don't want to spoil this movie for you but it is a must watch film that was directed by Mike Judge who has done the series King of the Hill and the cult classic film, Office Space.

    Great Funny Stupid Movie

This movie is full of dumb stupid comedy, but done so in a witty sense. A great movie to watch with friends so you can make fun of it. I must disagree with some reviews regarding expectation, only because i saw this movie with very few if any, so i guess its a matter of perspective. Though not anywhere near Borat or Super Troopers offensive, it doesn't pull punches either with language. If you like Super Troopers, and other such semi slapstick comedy, this is for you. Looking for serious somewhat realistic comedy, then there's plenty out there to choose. This is a good buy tough at the 7.50 price.

A bit over the top silly sometimes. But it's core message of how we are and what we're really becoming since the movies original release. Is becoming a reality truth among the people and our society. Not really about the hicks being the new rulers and all. But rather the dumb politics are falling into place as described in the film. Not a great film but certainly entertaining on a Pauley Shore kind of level.

This movie is great if you want to see some silly, goofball comedy, yet it has an eerie undertone to it. If smart people in this country keep putting off having kids while those that don't care continue to have them at alarming rates, this freakish alternate version of America could play out, though maybe not to the extent of the movie. I was laughing yet kinda spooked out at the same time. Smart people, you owe it to the FUTURE of America to insure the survival of the species. With great intelligence comes great responsibility.

Idiocracy is not high art but it's dumb fun. Idiocracy features Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, Dax Shepard, and the expendables - Terry Crews. This movie comes from the mind of Beavis and Bhead, Mike Judge, who writes, directs and produces the movie. The movie exagerates the idea of the dumbing of society. This movie has a good amount of laughs. The is only about 88 minutes and I would recommend it for a fun rainy day Saturday afternoon viewing. I enjoyed this movie and would definitely recommend this movie. Thank you for reading my review.

Quotable, relate-able, funny, and a terrifying predictive look at the future. When first watch a decade ago, it was just funny, Now in the current reality-tv presidency this movie is almost prophetic. So while super entertaining, it might be saddening to see the reality of what was once though as ludicrously impossible actualize in a two year span of reality.
