A must for anyone interested in New England's maritime heritage. Both deal with men in crisis and how they react to the challenges posed by a nature impossible to control or correct a case of what is designated in Islam as Kismet. The early settlers of Massachussets found a land limited in the potential to produce an agricultural economy limiting matters to whatever could be harvested from the sea. In possestion of large forests to the north they could also specialize in shipbuilding and logging of wood but the construction of ships was their main contribution to a nascent American economy.
