Synopsis

Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster
Hong Kong film star Donnie Yen reprises his role as Ip Man in this semi-autobiographical sequel following the adventures of the grand master of Wing Chun. The Sino-Japanese War has ended, and after defending his people with wushu, Ip escapes the wrath of the Japanese by fleeing to Foshan. Failing to find peace even in his own homeland, Ip relocates his family to Hong Kong in 1949. Once there, Ip begins teaching Wing Chun to a group of pupils that includes Wong Leung (Huang Xiao Ming), who soon clashes with Cheng Wei Ki (Dennis To). Embarrassed at having been beaten so badly by Wong in a fight, Cheng kidnaps his rival and takes him to a fish market owned by Master Hung (Sammo Hung). Blaming Ip for the damage done by Wong, Master Hung demands that the other teacher defeat practitioners of all wushu varieties in the time it takes to burn a single joss stick. Incredibly, Ip meets the challenge, impressing Master Hung, who then gives him permission to open his own wushu school. When Master Hung gives Ip a ticket to the King of Boxing Competition, a friendship is forged between the two former rivals. After a competitor nicknamed Twister is named the winner, he beats Cheng and friends for celebrating with wushu, and claims he can defeat Master Hung with three simple blows. Though Master Hung maintains the upper hand throughout most of the fight, Twister eventually lands a punch that knocks his superior down. In the wake of the fight, tensions between the locals and Westerners begin heating up, and the local superintendent responds by announcing a kung fu competition. When Ip defeats all challengers, including Twister, Wing Chun gains popularity throughout Hong Kong, and the highly respected master begins teaching a young disciple named Bruce Lee, who will bring the art of Chinese wushu to Westerners before dying tragically at the tender age of 32. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

p Man 2 (classified under the name Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster in the US) is a 2010 Hong Kong biographical martial arts film loosely based on the life of Ip Man, a grandmaster of the martial art Wing Chun. A sequel to the 2008 film Ip Man, Ip Man 2 was directed by Wilson Yip and stars Donnie Yen, who reprises the leading role. Continuing after the events of the earlier film, the sequel centers on Ip's movements in Hong Kong, which is under British colonial rule. He attempts to propagate his discipline of Wing Chun, but faces rivalry from other practitioners, including the local master of Hung Ga martial arts.

Almost as good as Ip Man1

Ip Man was very well represented in this movie. So many great actors, and Donnie Yen was fantastic for this role. Loved it! I had watched Ip Man the night before, and watched Ip Man 2 right after work the following day. It was fantastic, and nearly as good as Ip Man1. It was so good, my wife watched Ip Man 1 and 2 in the same sitting a couple days later! And I sat there with her and watched it all again. I almost never watch the same movie twice within a year's period of time. Tremendous movie, I recommend that you pick it up if you like a great storyline and great action.

Not as good as Ip Man (Part 1)

Ip Man 2 picks up from the ending of Ip Man (Part 1). After the Japan invades China (Part 1), the British enter the picture. British boxing champion takes on the Chinese Masters to prove that Western boxing is better than Eastern Kung Fu. The film gives a quick nod to a very young Bruce Lee. They could have focused more on Yip's relationship with Bruce Lee. Donnie Yen gives an excellent performance. This film is not as good as Ip Man (Part 1)

The whole IP Man saga/series is great, even the movies without Donnie Yen. I will admit that I like & think that the 3 Donnie Yen movies are the best. Not just a great story & learning about Bruce Lee's mentor but how well portrayed IP Man is in these movies. Part 2 is great & has high charged fight scenes & Donnie's best acting in parts 1-3. Highly recommended to all.

This is wonderful at how they keep the wonderful storyline going with this action packed excellent scene of a movie indeed for real. Now what was that statement Bruce Lee used about how the water flowed. That's what this movie does, with how they lay it out in its format which is really, really good indeed as well.

This is a highly entertaining martial arts film featuring some of the best fight scenes I've seen. The story is simpler and less dramatic than the first movie, but that makes it more fun. I enjoyed Donnie Yen as Ip Man and it's unfortunate that he didn't come back for a third installment in the series.

This is not only a Martial Arts movie. Yes , there are action fights , but of equal importance , it narrates the spiritual teachings and the life philosophy of the GRANDMASTER IP MAN. CREATOR OF THE WING CHUN style . Ive bought all three movies already. Great M.A.
