Synopsis

Ip Man 2: Legend of the Grandmaster
Hong Kong film star Donnie Yen reprises his role as Ip Man in this semi-autobiographical sequel following the adventures of the grand master of Wing Chun. The Sino-Japanese War has ended, and after defending his people with wushu, Ip escapes the wrath of the Japanese by fleeing to Foshan. Failing to find peace even in his own homeland, Ip relocates his family to Hong Kong in 1949. Once there, Ip begins teaching Wing Chun to a group of pupils that includes Wong Leung (Huang Xiao Ming), who soon clashes with Cheng Wei Ki (Dennis To). Embarrassed at having been beaten so badly by Wong in a fight, Cheng kidnaps his rival and takes him to a fish market owned by Master Hung (Sammo Hung). Blaming Ip for the damage done by Wong, Master Hung demands that the other teacher defeat practitioners of all wushu varieties in the time it takes to burn a single joss stick. Incredibly, Ip meets the challenge, impressing Master Hung, who then gives him permission to open his own wushu school. When Master Hung gives Ip a ticket to the King of Boxing Competition, a friendship is forged between the two former rivals. After a competitor nicknamed Twister is named the winner, he beats Cheng and friends for celebrating with wushu, and claims he can defeat Master Hung with three simple blows. Though Master Hung maintains the upper hand throughout most of the fight, Twister eventually lands a punch that knocks his superior down. In the wake of the fight, tensions between the locals and Westerners begin heating up, and the local superintendent responds by announcing a kung fu competition. When Ip defeats all challengers, including Twister, Wing Chun gains popularity throughout Hong Kong, and the highly respected master begins teaching a young disciple named Bruce Lee, who will bring the art of Chinese wushu to Westerners before dying tragically at the tender age of 32. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Ip Man 3
In this action thriller set in 1959 Hong Kong, martial-arts master Ip Man (Donnie Yen) is forced to protect his hometown when a crooked property developer and his gangster cohorts attempt to seize control of local real estate. Mike Tyson co-stars. Directed by Wilson Yip. ~ Daniel Gelb, Rovi

Ip Man
Behind every great man there lies a teacher, and this was certainly true of Bruce Lee, who claimed as his mentor a martial arts expert named Ip Man (1893-1972). A genius of Wushu (or the Chinese martial arts school), Ip Man grew up in a China nearly ripped to pieces by racial hatred, nationalistic strife, and warfare. He rose like a phoenix above these ashes, however, courtesy of his participation in matches against various Wushu masters and kung fu warriors -- ultimately training martial arts icons such as Lee. This biopic from director Wilson Yip dramatizes Ip's life story. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Ip Man is one of my favorite movies. Period. The action is fantastic, but the drama and hardships the characters go through are what fully support this film in being great. The sequel has a slightly lighter tone, and is much more action oriented. There are multiple schools vying for a spot in a town that's recovering from the war. Ip Man has to prove himself to multiple masters, and those fights are so well done. Ip Man 3 may be many fans least favorite among this trilogy, but I enjoyed it so much. It's a lighter film, and deals with an aging Ip Man who is taking on students, but also gets involved with a gang trying to shut down the school that Ip Man's son goes to while also dealing with a very personal situation with his wife. It's not as action packed as the previous films, but it has the most emotion and I was crying by the end of it. Overall this is a great trilogy set for anyone. Doesn't matter if you're a fan of action films, or not, these films has something for everyone.

I caught part of IP Man years ago and was fascinated by it. I have enjoyed many martial arts movies, and now that my sons are hooked on them too, it was the perfect time to pick up the IP Man trilogy! Great action, amazing fight scenes, and basically the story of how Bruce Lee came to be the legend... Or maybe the legend that inspired Bruce Lee to master the art of kung foo. If you like martial arts movies (samurai, ninja, sword fighting, or just hand to hand) this is right up your alley!

What an incredible series of movies based on Ip Man, the a real historical figure that taught Bruce Lee. Great action interspersed and plenty exciting. The greatest aspect of these films, besides the great choreography, is that Wing Chun is actually that fast. There is no speeding up in this film when Donnie Yen is throwing punches. As of this posting, the trilogy is inexpensive. Definitely a must buy for fans of Martial Art and semi-historical films.

If you are a martial arts fan, this is a trilogy you must have. You cant beat the price that you pay for all three movies on blu ray. Great fight scenes on all three movies. the only set back is that I had to change the audio to English & it's like that for all three movies. I don't like watching movies with the audio in another language other than English & reading subtitles.

Since I watched the very first Ip Man film I've been obsessed with the series. Incredible true story and absolutely spectacular Kung Fu. The first 2 films have some of the best sequences I've ever seen. The 3rd part was also great but not as exciting as the first 2. The 4 disc trilogy at this price is unbeatable. A must buy for martial arts lover's

I was very skeptical at first about purchasing this movie set, I've read several reviews online and on Rotten Tomatoes, all of them said thumbs up, 5 out of 5, and 85%. So after watching the first two movies I'm a huge fan, these movies have a excellent story, production, and great casting. This is a must have for any Blu-ray collection.

IP MAN is a true great Kung Fu master and this movie is all true. He was so great that this Chinese martial arts expert taught Bruce Lee. Watch this engaging trilogy sold for a favorable price as IP MAN conquers all of his adversity. I wish I could give it 6 stars.
