Q: Is the height really 16.5 in? We only have 16 1/8.
A: It is actually 17 inches when you allow for the built in venting fan (this is an "over the range microwave). Definitely will not work in smaller space.

A: Hello, This model does allow metal racks to be used if used properly per the use and care guide. Use the rectangular cooking rack only for 2-level cooking. To avoid damage to the microwave oven, always remove rack after 2-level cooking. To avoid damage to the microwave oven due to soil buildup, clean rack supports often. We hope this helps.
