Best picture I have seen.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shopped for the new 4k sets until I came across this OLED set display. I compared many 4K sets vs the LG OLED 55 inch set and it was really no contest. The black color was superior along with many other vibrant colors. LG was smart to continue the production of this technology as others dropped out. Superior picture plus beautiful curved screen design.

Nice image and sound. Not reliable quality.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV five years ago. Three years ago I brought it to the authorized LG repair center for repair after the image gone. Now since months ago it has a white vertical line all the way down in the screen. I bought a Samsung TV before my son was born. My son is now 10 years old and the TV never had any issue.

First Impressions - 24hrs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After extensive research and window shopping, I almost settled for one of LG's 65" 4K televisions, but the main hurdle was getting over the price difference between the two types of televisions. LED or OLED? Well, I'm very happy that I chose the latter because when it came to picture quality, this type of technology cannot be beaten. I managed to pick up my set after waiting two days for it to be shipped to my local Best Buy and it arrived just before Christmas. Awesome job, Best Buy! Unboxing it was a lot of fun and LG included 4 pairs of passive 3D glasses: two for regular use and two designed for glass wearers like myself. After setting up the unit, it was remarkably lightweight and with its stand already assembled. The included Magic remote is very responsive and behaves like a Wii remote, displaying a cursor on the screen with just a slight shake. Voice control is intuitive, but nowhere as sophisticated as Xbox One's Kinect. There are many adjustments that you can make for picture and sound, and LG's web menu does take a little time to master its many layers of options, but it is nothing too difficult with a little exploration, mixed in with trial and error. There is even a built-in instruction within the settings as well. This OLED is also a Smart TV and 3D, so that includes all of the obvious bells and whistles. (e.g. automatic software updates, apps, Internet, web browser, games, movie rentals, and much more) The OLED itself reproduced an adequate sound for a small living space. If you desire a lot of boom, you may want to invest in a sound bar, but for what is it out of the box I was impressed with the clarity and the fact that I didn't have to turn the volume up past "12" to fill the room. Picture quality is definitely out of this world, easily beating all the other panels that you might be currently shopping around for. LED's screens lose picture at an angle and look washed out in color, but not OLED. Standing nearly 180-degrees, you can see the flawless picture at any position in front of it or off to the side with no loss in quality. With a nice curved screen and an atteactive stand, this TV looks very pleasing to the eye and feels solidly built when being handled. Colors tended to pop out more than you typical LED and it goes inky black during dark scenes and disappears in a dark room, accompanied by perfect brightness, clarity, and saturation when the scene changes in a film. I tested out the 3D effect on Netflix movie streaming, Blu-Ray, and Xbox One and all three were taken to the next dimension at the push of a button. I've never owned a 3D TV until now, but for passive technology it is very on par with movie theatre quality. I cannot speak for Samsung's active 3D technology, but wearing special glasses without the need of batteries felt great for an extended period of time. No fatigue of any kind. The included clip-on 3D wear was a big plus for me since I require glasses to see from a distance. There isn't much for me to say negative about this set but maybe a few things: one, connecting a regular coaxial to the back port of the unit is a pain because of the design choice that leaves very little wiggle room, so I only recommend using HDMI for everything HD. Two, I noticed while watching certain older shows or fast animation, particularly with 3D on, this TV does exhibit a little afterimage, but after a while you will ignore it or will have to make picture adjustments to solve the problem. I recommend adjusting the picture settings to turn off smoothing or some other digital picture option to alleviate this. (This wasn't for everything, mind you.) Third, the important one of it all, of course was price. $3,500 is expensive for a lot of people. Try to catch this beast while it is on sale. The bottom line is ... if you want the absolute best quality picture of 2014, this LG is the way to go if you don't mind breaking the bank. You really do get your money's worth. Guarantee it! Plan ahead and factor in $200+ in tax and another $300-$800 in warranty, and it gets seriously expensive fast. So definitely know what you're getting into at this price point. No one really knows how long OLED lasts, but it's always good to have peace of mind knowing it's covered past the manufacturer's warranty. For my gamers out there, this is a "must-buy" TV if you can afford it. I played Halo: MCC for about five hours, regular gameplay and then 3D, and I've got to tell you that it's changed how that game looks, feels, and sounds. Colors come alive, you can see incredible detail that might have been missed previously in dark areas, and overall this set mimics 3D all on its own without the option. It's like the more color you throw at it, it creates skittles for your eyes. Simply amazing down to EVERY minute detail--pixel perfection at 1080p. Who needs 4K for clarity when OLED automatically nails it with the brightest whites, the darkest blacks, and every spectrum of the rainbow? ;) My Rating Picture Quality: 5/5 (Superb Brightness, Clarity, Resolution and Color) Sound Quality: 4/5 (Good for Small Rooms) 3D: 5/5 (Many Options Available) Form Factor: 5/5 (Featherweight, Sharp Design, and 55" Screen Real Estate) Usability: 5/5 (Easy Remote and Interface Navigation) I will follow up with another review once I've tested everything out and have lived with it for a few weeks. I cannot name every feature you might come across, but just know that this TV acts like a streaming machine, working with your phone, tablet, computer, and etc. That is why it's Smart. Stay tuned!

Good but not my favorite
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This set has one of the best pictures you can get but has a few big flaws that were enough for me to return this set. OLED as a technology is definitely the way of the future, forget gimmicks like 4k, OLED has so many amazing qualities that make a very stunning image. I hope LG keeps working on the OLED sets because it really is the true next generation tv sets, my issues are not with the OLED technology though and more with issues of LG and this set in particular. Pros: -Incredible contrast and deepest blacks ever. Also the whites are very bright on this set as well so it has a really amazing image. -Very thin and very attractive design, plus it is wall mountable. -Extensive user control settings for all sorts of image adjustments. You can tweak this set like crazy.... probably the most configurable set I have personally used. -Although this isn't a cheap set its price puts it well in the affordable range compared to other high end models. It is dramatically less expensive then the previous sets released. Cons: -Only comes in 55" size. I would prefer larger. -It only comes in a curved version and LG's only flat version is much more expensive. A curve on an extremely large set might possibly have some of the immersive benefits all the marketing hype says it has, but on a screen this size it is just distracting and makes the image look warped and people from the sides can't see it well. Luckily this set is only very slightly curved and isn't all to bad. -Color uniformity issues are common on this set. I looked at a few different units and all of them had some color distortion to some extent. It was usually with yellows, greens, and magentas. This could sometimes be worked out in the white balance but in the case of the set I actually was testing at home it had a large green tinted area in the upper right that I was unable to remove using white balance adjustments. This color variations usually only show up when there are lighter images on the screen. Make sure to check you set in all types of situations to determine if yours is passable or not. Not all units have this issue so you may have to try a few of them first. -Lastly and biggest of all is if you watch many movies at all this tv may end up driving you nuts. This is a common issue with all LG tv's but this set in particular has some of the worst motion judder I have ever seen. Some people are really not bothered or affected by the motion judder but I imagine the type of people spending this much on a tv will notice it right away. It is so bad I actually had to turn on the dejudder option. As of now that is the only real fix and to me it isn't really a good fix. I notice dejudder way to much and it always distracts me from the actual content I am watching. I don't mind it for sports but for anything else it just bothers me far to much and is ultimately why I returned this set.

No regrets buying OLED 4 weeks ago
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I almost never buy early generation technology and the price is steep for my budget. And there is the 4k dilemma... But I think 4K is still a ways off. So I was nervous, but simply couldn't resist after seeing CNET's review. Amazingly light, striking contrast, brilliant colors, low-glare, etc. Also, the image doesn't look as fake like LCD's sometimes do -- But still not as lifelike as plasma :( But where this tv really excels for me personally is: 1. Viewing angles, and 2. Bright rooms/anti-glare. My room is wide and sunny! I wasn't initially a fan of the curve, but it's slight and it's actually grown on me the past few weeks. The curve also helps reduce glare. I was curious about the subtle waves/dimples in the screen when off, but I think it's related to the curve manufacturing process, and they totally disappear when the tv is on. No surprise, but the sound is somewhat weak. But, it's not unbearable and I've been fine without a sound bar, which I'll get someday. I felt guilty after buying it because it's extravagant for my budget conscious taste, and kept thinking I would return it. But I can't deny it, this tv is amazing. So it stayed and I'm lovin it. My bet is on OLED.

Superb.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This television delivers as advertised. The professional reviews all make note of a rich picture quality with vibrant colors and sharp contrast from the ability to render true, deep blacks. I wondered how that translated to a consumer level appreciation. Black is the absence of color, so how does that make for a better picture? I still marvel at the fine detail and the "reach out and touch it" quality to watching someone wearing a black suit for example; you can make out the weave of the fabric, and see how it folds and reflects light. Its stunning, unlike anything else I've seen. The off angle viewing is also remarkable, you can stand next to it and be totally fine watching the action on a hockey game. Motion display of sports and movies is also flawless. Downsides? None other than price, but in this case, you do get exactly what you've paid for, picture quality that is truly state of the art.

OLED is the best period.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once you experience OLED in your home, you'll never want to look at another display again, so be warned. While I do own a PS4 for exclusives such as, The Last of Us and Uncharted, the majority of this display is tailored to XBMC (media streaming) and PC Gaming. While that's being said, I did manage to overclock the panel to 70hz refresh on my pc and got noticeably better refresh. I am not so concerned about response time, or fancy features as I am accurate colors and contrast. The following review is based on that assumption. I saved up for a while to get this, and waited until it was within an acceptable price range for me to purchase. I watched the price plummet from $10,000 to the final purchase price of $2,199 that I got it at. Yes, if you can afford this TV at the 70" 2160p (4K) resolution... go buy it! All-in-all this is a wonderful set. I can't wait for OLED to take off in all aspects. I hope that the price goes down and even if this is out of your budget now, they eventually hit mainstream. $9,000 for a 70" 4K model would be the crown jewel but even my $10,000 Computer can't output at 4K/60hz on all titles at this time, so I'll wait until PC hardware catches up with falling prices of display technology before I jump into a larger version. Pro: Contrast, Contrast, Contrast Color's look absolutely amazing. Once you enjoy an OLED TV you won't want to look at anything else. Low power consumption "Smart" - Netflix - Hulu - Amazon Prime Video - with other LG Apps. Lightweight for easy wall mount capabilities Cons: Biggest drawback - no analog audio out (Stereo Mini - Headphone Jack) Had to go buy a 13$ Optical to RCA then connect that to my speakers. If you're wondering why, it's because although the built in speakers do sound good, you'll find that if your TV is mounted on a wall adjacent to another room it will get the bulk of your sound and you hardly get any. I think this is a fault with all televisions, using downward facing or backwards facing speakers is just a terrible design. If I had my way, all Televisions would just be "monitors" or displays requiring you to use a headphone jack or optical or HDMI to take sound to your speaker system, headphones or any other means. Video Ads - While my 4K Television does it too, and the simple (for a tech person) fix is to just block LG's advertising domains (quick google to fix that). Specialized Wall Mount not included - yes you have to shell out another 70-100$ depending on where you pick it up to have a special wall-mount if you so want to mount this. What I enjoy is that the mount is really small and lightweight compared to other mounts and the TV basically hangs on the mount like a hanger. Closing Thoughts - this television is 10/10. There's not one thing I don't like or can't not love about this set. I'm glad to see LG pushing the OLED market. With that being said, no your PS4 or Xbox 1 CAN NOT display 4k, nor will they be able to. Their hardware does not allow it, hooking your PS4/Xbox1 to a 4K television is not "gaming in 4K" your console is still putting out at 1080p (in very rare cases), and most likely 720p or slightly above 900p and the television is doing what's called "upscaling" where it takes the image at a lesser resolution and scales it (think enlarging) to fill the screen. What you're left with is an image that has pixels repeated over and over in blocks to take up the entire screen. Some sets do this better than others and scaling 1080p to 4K looks more crips than say 900p or 720p what most your "next gen" games are rendered at. PC Gaming is the only way to truly take advantage of anything you own.

Amazing Picture
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV has the best picture of any I've seen at this price. I was hesitant about the curve, but ultimately think it enhances more than it takes away. I miss not having the wide viewing area. My previous plasma was viewable from my kitchen at an almost 20 degree angle and 25 feet away. This set is only viewable mostly straight on due to the curve and reflection even from a pretty modest 45 deg angle. I also miss the ability to move the set remotely on a swivel as I had on my previously plasmas, but that's not a standard feature on most TVs. The built in sound is horrific, and I am in the process of buying a sound bar. The menu interface is just okay. The Wii-like remote to access complex menus could be infuriating to some when up/down, side/side buttons are so much better. I've also noticed that the built-in Wi-Fi has issues with streaming and buffers frequently or drops HD quality, which I never had with just a Chromecast. I've tried to use to the built in picture calibration multiple times, but it always turns out almost unwatchable compared to just doing it by eye. The picture though, once calibrated or using built in modes, is straight amazing; and that's the most important thing to me.

Q: QuestionOLED and burn in...Is this an issue like Amoled phones can have?
Asked by Scott H.
- A:Answer I've been using this TV exclusively for PC for the past 100 hours so far and it does suffer from minor burn in, that is only visible during completely black screens. If you do not have the brightness properly adjusted, it will have white streaks in the center, that are very feint; but if you turn the TV off for about 6 hours it goes away until you use it again for over 5 hours. A properly calibrated TV, you will not notice the burn in at all.

Q: QuestionDoes OLED upscale dvds or non-high definition sources?
Asked by Tony F..
- A:Answer The LG - 55" Class (54-5/8" Diag.) - OLED - Curved - 1080p - Smart - 3D - HDTV, Model # 55EC9300 has a native resolution of 1080p and it has a resolution upscaler that will match the incoming picture signal with the native resolution of the display. The video processing chip does two things. First, it deinterlaces the picture so that it can be processed, and then the upscaler gets to work, using smart algorithms and filters to add pixels and lines so that the output matches the resolution of the TV. The algorithms analyse the standard-definition image and then use a process called interpolation to generate extra lines and pixels. However, keep in mind that DVD have a resolution of 480p and you can't get high-definition images from standard-definition signals because upscaling cannot add detail that wasn't there in the first place...^IFV
