Q: Can you connect the dvr to a laptop in order to download video onto an external hard drive?
A: There is a program for the desktop by the manufacturer that facilitates downloading video from the DVR itself. For direct backup, insert a thumb drive or a USB hard drive.
Q: does the system only record when there is motion?
A: This system can record in continuous, scheduled and motion sense mode.
A: They don't need a power cord, individually. You'll run all the cords back to the DVR, and it, will supply the power.
A: The extension cables are 60 feet in length.
Q: I assume the box needs to plug into our modem. How far does the box need to be from the modem?
A: This will need to be plugged into your network. it can be plug into your modem or a networking device.
Q: It says the cameras are ethernet yet the cables are only 60 feet, can I just utilize CAT 5 cable ?
A: These cameras use BNC cables but you can purchase longer cables if need be.
Q: can you wire up a mic with each camera?
A: The DVR allows audio from 1 channel so you can use a mic for one of your cameras.
