After mending her broken relationship with Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning), her goddaughter, who she once cursed to sleep forever, Maleficent (Angelina Jolie) begins to live a quiet life as the protectress of the Moors. However, her peaceful life is once again set to be disturbed when the princess announces her engagement to Ulstead’s crown prince, Phillip (Harris Dickinson). As Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) devises a plan to permanently separate humans from fairies, Maleficent and Aurora find themselves on opposite ends of the brewing conflict. Beautiful movie! Loved the appealing colorful visuals and the fantasy of it all. Not sure why some reviewers are so negative. I mean, it's a movie - it's not supposed to be real! Love Angelina Jolie of course and I did wish to see more of her in it, perhaps kicking more butt, but that would compromise her deep integrity and authenticity as classy Maleficent. Gotta say that there’s no one else like Angelina Jolie and she adds a magical touch like Aurora’s finger to the spindle in every movie she’s in. Also felt a sense of female empowerment throughout the film, not in a feminist way, but displaying the mental and physical fortitude of the dominant women played by Jolie, Pfeiffer, and Fanning - great combo and performance. Men were still respected like the good King John. Enjoyed and appreciated racially diverse faces throughout the movie like Jolie's real children; not many movies embrace global peoples. Costume and make-up was gorgeous. Witty, romantic, comedic, light, dark, love, pain, war, peace, and more... all the dynamic elements of a story is there. And Bebe Rexha’s song “You Can’t Stop the Girl” added a perfect thematic touch of strength and confidence during the end credits!
Where to begin...Angelina Jolie is the best, I really like Elle Fanning too; But to see Michelle Pfieffer playing a evil woman was FANTASTIC!!! I cried ( YOU WILL SEE WHY ) And not to spoil those who will buy this, I am so glad they made a 2nd movie especially to see more winged fey like Angelina' s character. I had to go back and watch first again since Prince Phillip person acting him was changed for the better. Also to see differences in Angelina. Truth is this movie would NOT SELL if she was replaced or not cast. Love the story line. And ESPECIALLY the extras included. I bought 4k, blu-ray and DVD to have all DVD needed for travel. Digital is how I share with friends and family. Thank you for price reduction on blu-ray/ DVD combo. And with best buy shipping got movies first thing Tuesday Jan 14th in am. You got to buy it renting will NEVER be enough!!
I would recommend this to a friend

Ok I laughed, Really cried, and loved movie so much I had to buy ALL FORMATS: 4k, blu-ray, DVD and digital. The first movie I thought wad great some if my friends were not that impressed, but the second really tugs at your heart strings and has great fighting action. But Angelina always steals the movie with her performance also I see was more involved with making of this one. Even the extras were fantastic. I am honestly hoping for a 3rd installment. If you love live stories and not just between man and woman but parent and child this movie will be the best few hours you can spend watching magic, action and fantastic drama.
PLEASE, Angelina Jolie would not sign on unless it was tight, (written. etc). This movie was an incredible sequel to the original. moved the franchise along in a pragmatic manner, that adults won't get bored while watching with their kids. This is a great movie that also celebrates the step parent. If you are a step parent, foster parent, or just that (aunt/uncle) who cares for the next generation, this movie could be, (SHOULD BE) a celebration of YOU!!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!! That is the message I take form this movie, pass it on to someone who cares for others......
The first Maleficent was a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. It explained why Maleficent was the way she was - about deception and betrayal. The sequel takes it a bit further and even tells of the origins of Maleficent and her people. The Fey. You find that she really isn't evil at all.
The film brings back Elle Fanning as Aurora and Sam Riley as Diaval. Plus, we have Michelle Pfieffer, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ed Skrein, and others.
You should get this film!
Love this sequel. It exceeded my expectations. It is a family movie or just for someone who loves the twist of the sleeping beauty story. You will watch it over and over again. Definitely your child(ren) will. What are you waiting for? Go get your copy and make it part of your collection.
As far as sequels go, there are only a small handful that are better than the original. Empire and T2 being at the top of that list. But this 2nd Maleficent movie is surprisingly good and has wonderful visual effects. I recommend it for the story and cinematography. Enjoy!
I really enjoyed this movie. It shows Maleficent's back story and how she came to be. As always this shows that good and evil are blurred lines, to say the least. The fairy godmothers are just as flighty and prove to be good souls. Minimal violence so all ages will enjoy.
