Universal license plate mount Backup Cam

      AutotechInstaller

This camera is not meant for you if your vehicle does not have a centered license plate, such as certain models of Jeep vehicles and Hummers (to name a few). The Metra BBBPC is a small bullet shaped camera attached to a mounting track used to slide behind stationary mounted license plates to provide a clear bumper-level (or similar) view while in reverse. It requires a 12v connection to power on (Ram owners beware if doing own installation), and is advised to be connected directly to your reverse light. It uses an RCA plug to interface with aftermarket screens and video screen radios equippes with RCA Video Inputs. This product is not directly intended to be used in conjunction with factory navigation, or video screen radios. Most, if not all, factory OEM video screen radios are NOT equipped with the necessary input connections, and require additional information and labor to determine if they can be connected to factory systems. This is a true 170° viewing angle camera, and utilizes a fisheye lense to accomplish this. Your local Best Buy with an Autotech can assist you with installation pricing, and scheduling at your convenience. This is, as a professional installer myself, the mostly highly recommended backup camera we currently carry as of the time of this review. It touts the greatest viewing angle at one of the lowest prices, is extremely easy to work with, and has an excellent picture. 10/10, I always suggest this one to my clients.

We were installing a Pioneer radio receiver which had back-up cam capability. Yet the reviews we read for all of the cameras for that radio had quite a few negative comments. So we decided to go with the rearview mirror back-up cam. And we bought it. When we went to our installer with all of our equipment, he was perplexed at why we bought a radio with back-up cam capability and then we bought a rearview mirror back-up camera. We explained about all of the negative reviews we had seen for all of the brands of cams for our radio. And he said not to pay too much attention to negative reviews. He said he personally had used the Metra back-up cam and it was a great product. He suggested exchanging the two reaview cameras and spend the money we were saving to buy a better radio. So that's what we did. And boy are we glad! Great price and a great camera. So now I agree with the installer. Too many negative reviewers have some reason for saying what they say besides problems with the product they are bashing. The price for this camera is very reasonable and it does a perfect job for us as we back up. We just got home a few minutes ago and used it while we were out and we LOVE it. Thank you to the great Best Buy installers in Gastonia, NC for the great advice on the back-up cam and the radio. You made a believer out of us!

It was a 'this is the only option' purchase and wished I would have done more research. When I purchased my Kenwood DDX470 the Best Buy Associate said this is the only one we carry, which isn't the whole truth. That may have been the only one they had in stock at the time but I search the inventory online and the store in shop at does carry others. Regardless, the set up was fairly simple but the instructions were horrible. You definitely need to know about positive and negative currents to understand how to change the view of the camera. The picture quality is okay but horrible at night to the point of almost useless. I only discovered this after I spent a couple hours installing it.

Adequate for the money - functional, at best

After buying a 2015 car where a backup camera was standard, I decided to buy this camera for our 2005 minivan. This camera is decent at the price point, but certainly not up to what they are installing on new vehicles. I had geek squad install it. The good news: It works, it is inexpensive, and it tells you what you need to know when backing up. The bad news: Picture is a little out of focus - not enough to matter much, but it is disconcerting. At night, of course the picture is grainy - it is not a highly sensitive, low light camera - and it is not as good as what they are equipping the new models with. Still - if you are looking for the benefits of the safety feature for an older car, and not wanting a complex high def solution, then this camera does it. Realize that this is not must-see television, and that while backing up you hopefully not looking for compelling television..

purchased this camera specifically for my Sequoia due to wanting to use license plate mount but had to not block access to the liftgate latch. Using this camera allowed me to offset the camera very slightly to the right and due to its narrow attachment to the mounting bracket, still get at least 3 fingers on the latch. It was very easy to aim the camera where I wanted it, my only concern is that it may not tolerate brush type automatic car washes without bending the attachment point, Picture is good night and day for my purposes, I did not have to cut the loop to reverse the image and I did leave the back up lines functional. Mated to Pioneer headunit display with no difficulties.

Backup camera was easy to mount with the built in license plate frame. Its perfect for a pickup truck, where the necessary wires are present in the wiring harness for the trailer lights. The power wires for this camera are very small and delicate. Extreme care is needed to get a good connection and weather seal everything that is connected at the back of the vehicle. Picture quality is pretty good in daylight - and fair at night with the reverse lights illuminating the area. The camera comes with colored grid lines to help judge distance - but these can be turned off by cutting one of the really thin wires on the camera end of the cable.

This camera works well on a 2005 Tahoe I bought as a work vehicle that did not have one. All of my vehicles for the past 10 years have had a back-up camera, so I was accustomed to using one and felt nervous without one. Only downside was the $130 charge to install it. Also, obviously, you have to have a car stereo that has an input for a back-up camera. Nice thing about my Pioneer car stereo is that I can turn on the camera driving down the road to check my trailer, etc. In my other vehicles, the factory back-up camera only comes on when in reverse.

I got the camera to add to my new pioneer stereo. When they pulled the camera off the shelf it wasn't the one on display and they didn't have the display model in the store. I was a bit concerned because it does look cheap. but the installer said he had installed a few and people were happy with them. So, I had it installed. During the day the camera is bright and crisp with good detail. During the night the picture quality is a bit poor. But, its a lot better than not having one. Especially with my truck where its hard to see small items due to the height of the truck. Overall I am happy with the camera. I will admit that I am concerned about how easy it might be for someone to steal it.
