Synopsis

Michael Clayton
Michael Clayton (George Clooney) handles all of the dirty work for a major New York law firm, arranging top-flight legal services and skirting through loopholes for ethically questionable clients. But when a fellow "fixer" decides to turn on the very firm they were hired to clean up for, Clayton finds himself at the center of a conspiratorial maelstrom. Once an ambitious D.A., Clayton is now a shell of his former dynamic self, thanks to a divorce, an unfortunate business venture, and astronomical debt. Though he longs to leave the cutthroat, ethically dubious world of corporate law behind, Clayton's poor financial situation and devotion to firm head Marty Bach (Sydney Pollack) leave him little choice but to remain on the job and tough it out. Meanwhile, litigator Karen Crowder (Tilda Swinton) finds her entire company's future hinging on the outcome of a multi-billion-dollar settlement overseen by Clayton's friend, star lawyer Arthur Edens (Tom Wilkinson). When Edens snaps and decides to blow the whistle on the questionable case, sabotaging the defense, Clayton must decide between his loyalty and his conscience. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Finally a thriller for adults

Michael Clayton is tired of his life. He's a "fixer" for a major law firm, meaning that he must deal in deviousness and the problems of rich businesses, and this job has drained him both emotionally and physically and has cost him his marriage and his relationship with his son. Arthur Edens, a friend of Michael's, is the top defense attorney of a fertilizer corporation called U-North in a lawsuit involving health issues that were caused by their products, and during the negotiation process Edens has a breakdown, causing him to strip down and chase a plaintiff through a parking lot. Michael is brought in to repair the disastrous process, but in dealing with Arthur and the information about the lawsuit Michael discovers information that leads him to question his purpose, and his investigation of the matter puts his life in danger. This film is much like a John Grisham novel, both in its dealings with legal issues and its realistic dangers and twists. Tony Gilroy (who co-wrote the Bourne trilogy)makes his directorial debut with this film, and his calm and thoughtful pacing is admirable. This is a very mature thriller, one that is undeniably geared toward adults. This is not a slam-bang film. There are no carchases or gunfights (or really guns at all, for that matter), and because of that fact, the acting, which is fantastic, bears the major weight of the film. George Clooney perfectly expresses the exhaustion of his character and Tilda Swinton, in her Oscar-winning role creates a corporate employee who must control a disaster by any means necessary. Tom Wilkinson, however, is the real reason to see the film. His tormented guilt and madness, which slowly converts itself into a conscience-driven reversal of purpose truly moved me, and although all of the other principal actors were FANTASTIC, Wilkinson truly stuck out of the rest. I highly recommend this film. It is smart and intricate, and in the current film market, it is entirely unique.

    I don't understand the horses

I thought Michael Clayton was going to be a gamble. I didn't think I would like it, but I got it and I did. This is actually a really good movie. The movie starts from the end, jumps back to the beginning and proceeds back to the end. The one thing I don't get is the horses. You'll see what I mean when you see them. Michael Clayton is a clean up lawyer, or as he calls it a janitor. He has a lot of troubles to deal with as well as a huge conspiracy to try and cover up for his law firm. Events unravel which make some very entertaining watching. This movie is about 2 hours long, but it does go by rather quickly due to being very enthralled by the story.

i thought this movie was a really cool moive. clooney is awesome! a couple legal terms used may go over your head but its pretty easy to understand what they are talking about. great ending, it was very exciting with little action (which is hard to do). the part with the horses is from that book his son was talking about. he see's a picture of horses on a hill in the book then see's it in real life as well. overall i thought it was a really great movie and i catch something new everytime i watch it. you should deffently get this movie.

You need to watch this one closely, maybe even twice. Michael Clayton is his law firm's "janitor"- he handles all the messy situations. He is also in his mid-forties with a failed marriage, a failed business and not a lot of security. A member of his firm is handling a really big case involving liability of a fertilizer that causes health problems which were known about and covered up. The lawyer goes off his meds, goes manic, and this sets Michael off to clean up a really big mess.

This movie is not nearly as good as most critics made it out to be (Richard Roeper [of Ebert & Roeper]declared it was the best movie of the year!). Clooney is great, he always is when he does serious drama. Sydney Pollack and Tilda Swinton are terrific. The weakest part of this movie is the script, but overall this is a great movie to watch as you spoon with your honey-bunny on the couch. Rent this one, don't buy!!!

I had heard about this movie around Oscar time and decided to try it. I was very impressed with the acting and plot. George Clooney did a nice job in a role that is a little unusual for him. Tilda Swinton was also excellent in her award winning role. Some may call the movie slow, but I really like how it came together at the end.

This is one of those movies you have trouble reflecting on after you've seen it. I really enjoyed this movie the two times Ive watched it and things became clearer the second run through. This movie is definitely worth buying or I might even recommend renting this and then buying it.

Nominated for Best Picture... I'm not so sure about that but it is a good movie. Clooney plays a lawyer/janitor(you'll understand after watching) who becomes disillusioned with his job. Without giving away too much plot, it is definately worth picking up.
