Do "real work" on a tablet!
|Posted .Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5My wife has needed to work at home for the last two months and will be doing so for the foreseeable future. She had been using a clunky older laptop with poor battery life. We purchased the Surface Go 2 as a light, easy to move, and long-lived computer for her to get work done. I was a bit worried about the Pentium Gold processor and 4GB of RAM, but for her workflow of Microsoft Edge, iTunes, and Citrix it has worked great. The small 64GB of on-board storage worried me, but it also has a Micro SD slot, so I threw some extra storage in that way. I haven't used a Surface since the Surface Pro 3, but I am incredibly impressed with the build quality and the clarity of the screen, especially for $400. If you plan to use it as a consumption tablet, you might be better suited with an iPad, but for someone who needs to get "real work" done, this is an excellent choice.

Sluggish, bad battery life, great screen and audio

Quality5 out of 5Value1 out of 5Ease of Use4 out of 5Pros mentioned:Keyboard, SpeedCons mentioned:Apps, Display, ModesOrdered the 4GB\64GB Pentium version and overall am happy with it, but it's a weird mix of terrible and awesome all at once. Quality: The build quality is great and 10 inches seems to be the perfect size for a tablet usable in both portrait and landscape mode with Win10. This thing feels more premium than any iPad ever has and looks great except for the cheap looking Microsoft logo on the back. Light and easy to hold for us older folks with a bright screen to make it fairly usable even outside in direct sunlight. Wifi is fast and stable. Software: Windows 10 is very usable in both desktop and tablet mode, but apps sometimes crash or only fill part of the screen in tablet mode. I did switch out of S mode, limits you to Microsoft Store apps only, as this is a test machine for development and office work, but most people probably won't need to. It's fantastic having real windows on a portable, small device. The software keyboard and virtual trackpad also make this very usable without a mouse and keyboard when using it on the go. Performance: The Pentium processor, integrated graphics, and 4GB RAM are more than enough power and run everything I use very well. Even older games work great. The problem is the speed of the storage on the 64Gb version: Everything takes around 30 seconds to open up (yeah I started timing it), it's like using an old hard drive and is painful. Even menus are slow to load (but the basic Windows UI is very smooth and responsive). I would recommend getting a pricier version if this is going to be a main machine, but as a companion device for people like me it's bearable. Battery life: It's bad, really bad. I get about 4 hours of usage, up to 7 when doing very light tasks in airplane mode like note taking and using Excel. Nowhere near as advertised. Again, I don't mind as it's just mostly an on the go testing and development device for me, but I would never want this as a main machine. Overall, I recommend the tablet. I managed to type this entire lengthy review on it in just using the software keyboard in portrait mode. Really is a comfortable to use tablet. Of course the battery drained 15% during the 15 minutes this took to type out... But if bad battery life and slow to open programs/slow file transfer speeds don't bother you I highly recommend this tablet despite its flaws, but definitely get a more expensive model for a machine used frequently.

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5I am finding more uses almost daily. What started as a reader is now a tool for my photography. I'm using this more for the initial sorting process. Where I tag and delete photos that are not going to be keepers. Out of focus, flash didn't fire, etc. There is so much more that this can do I will be using it to assist with the start of pushing my photography to the next level business wise.

Great Companion Device!
|Posted .Features
Quality3 out of 5Value2 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I got this to use alongside my laptop for classes which are now primarily online, and this plus a pen is a tool I wish I had started using even earlier! I wish that syncing Microsoft accounts hadn't taken up half the storage space on here, but that's what SD cards are for I guess... The base model is good for pretty low level tasks, but at this price I wish it was a little more competent in terms of memory, RAM, or processing power (especially considering multiple other buys needed to use this well- a pen, an SD card, and the keyboard most people will add on). I'm happy with it, but feel that Microsoft could have done better!

Quality5 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5This is the perfect computer for someone who's on the go and just needs a computer for basic use like running Microsoft Office and checking emails. I got this as a gift for my partner and he likes the size and weight of it (He's always on the go). What's great is that I got him the dongle to connect to the external monitor we have in our office. So far, so good. We do wish it came with the pen like the other surface device, but we get it.

Q: Questiondoes it come with the pen?
Asked by gav.
- A:Answer All it comes with is a charger and the tablet. Every microsoft accessory seems to come in $50's.....50 for this,.....100 for that......150 for that. You can find much better value in similar products with the same specs but cost way less.

Q: QuestionIs the keyboard included?

Q: QuestionDoes the Surface go 2 outer dimensions match that of the original Surface go, because I want to buy a case for my new Go 2 but there are none available yet or for at least the one I want is for the first one, can it fit older cases?
Asked by DAngelo.
- A:Answer Great question! The dimensions for Surface Go 2 are 9.65” x 6.9” x 0.33” which are the same for the original Surface Go.

Q: QuestionIs a mouse or pencil required to use as a tablet? Or does a keyboard appear on the tablet screen?
Asked by Fran.
- A:Answer There is an option in the task bar to select the keyboard on the touch screen. When you click in a typing space, it might not always appear, so you would have to tap the little icon in the bottom right hand corner for it to appear. I have both a pen and a keyboard for the ease of use, however.

Q: QuestionTo Brian E. : Thank you for the answer to my question. I have another. Where would I find instructions showing how to take the Surface Go2 out of S mode? If I do that is it possible to go back to S mode? Would I then lose iTunes? Thanks so much.
Asked by Anonymous.
