    Synopsis

    Mortal Kombat
Three reluctant fighters are drafted for an intergalactic martial-arts tournament that will determine the fate of the human race in this special-effects-driven adventure. Inspired by the popular and notoriously bloody video game, Mortal Kombat provides a semblance of a plot as an excuse for rampant mayhem, with the evil alien forces challenging humanity to a kung fu battle to decide the Earth's fate. Following the failure of several previous human defenders, mankind's last chance lies with egotistical action film star Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby), tough but beautiful special agent Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson), and vengeance-minded hero Liu Kang (Robin Shou). Under the guidance of inspirational sorcerer Lord Rayden (Christopher Lambert), this unlikely trio faces off against a series of terrifying alien adversaries. As in the video game, the martial arts battles are the true point, with standard fighting combining with magical touches supplied by computer-generated effects. The dramatic content often resembles a Saturday morning cartoon, but Jonathan Scott Carlson's appropriately dank production design and the visually spectacular battle sequences made the film a hit amongst younger fantasy-action fans, spawning a sequel and a TV show. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

I remember first seeing this as a kid and thought it was so cool! While yea this didnt have much of a story, its based off a video game that well doesnt have much of a story to begin with. Its a pretty cool movie however watching it now the special effects arent that good but not bad for 1995. Its cool that they are finally releasing this on blu ray on the same date the game and web mini series is being released. Its like MK day or something! Just watching it brings back memories of my childhood. I cant wait for this to come out. Itll be something to add to my blu ray collection. If any of you liked the MK games pick this up for sure.

      Dismally Poor Film, Decent Dvd

A big-budget film based off a videogame, no wonder it's a piece of junk. First they did it with 'Super Mario Bros.,' then 'Double Dragon,' then 'Streetfighter,' and finally 'Mortal Kombat.' So, what did these films have in common? Not one of them was worth the filmstock they were shot on. However, for as bad as the film was, both the widescreen and full-screen presentations on this disc are pretty good.

Classic martial arts film based on the hit video game. Martial arts flicks weren't really being made in the U.S. at the time, so it was a bit of fresh air. It's campy and fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. And Christopher Lambert playing an asian thunder god........ What can you say to that?

Certainly a niche type thing. Only established fans are going to get anything out of it, but if you are one of the initiated, you should get this. Overall quality is not really that good, but that's part of the charm. It's really bad, in a really awesome kind of way.

A great movie that ties into the video games well. If you are looking for a good fighting movie that combines action with a decent plot, then here's the movie for you. If you are expecting Academy Award winning acting, then look for something else.

This movie is a classic for all Mortal Kombat fans. I'm glad these Mortal Kombat movies finally made their way to Blu-ray. I still had the old one in VHS. Now, this has better sound and picture. You won't be dissapointed.

The movie is just average with a budget to bring in some actors with some fighting skills with some good synthesizing music....overall backgound movie to do laundry, homework, etc.
