      Another Bare Bones Release....Again....Why?!

      Posted
      OutworldGod95

I apologize in advanced if this review is a bit long and is a little bit on the rant side. but this kind of thing has bothered me for a very long time, and I felt like now is the time to finally address it. with that said, please read on. this review is not about the films themselves, but more on the quality of the DVD release. these films seriously needs a lot more special features added to them if Warner Brothers intends for us to keep buying them. not another standard bare bones release yet again. seriously Warner Brothers? a bare bones DVD release, again? why? what's the purpose? what's the point? why not add the behind the scenes features, commercials & trailers, special effects videos for Goro, music videos, history of MK videos, a look back at the 1st film 20 years later, bloopers, deleted scenes, promotional videos, Into The Outworld MK3 video, interviews with the cast & crew, the deleted ending for Annihilation, and many more stuff to keep the fans busy? all of this stuff & more could of been added to both of these films as a special edition Blu-Ray release if they actually tried. this is what makes buying the DVD's & Blu-Ray's from Shout Factory worth our money, because they knew how to put some meat on their bones and keep the fans happy. they know how to sell DVD's & Blu-Ray's, and they actually give us more content to keep coming back. we still don't have an official release of MK Defenders Of The Realm for god sakes. sure it's a bad series, but for completionists, it's better than nothing at all. and once again, they decided to add in MK Legacy Season 1, but calling it a Franchise Collection is a lie when you don't have MK Legacy Season 2, MK Rebirth (the 8 minute trailer to Legacy), The Journey Begins, Defenders Of The Realm, Conquest, or the absolute worst of the series, Federation Of Martial Arts. that's a Franchise Collection, not just the 2 movies & 1 Season of a 2 Season web series. this is just pure laziness. there's absolutely no excuse for not giving the fans a complete collection of the entire series, and there is not one single excuse as to why we still don't have a superior release of these 2 films after 20 + years and not add any significant special features to it that's worth the listed price. especially when you consider the fact that the VHS release of Mortal Kombat The Journey Begins had the behind the scenes feature of the 1st MK film back in 1995, and that was 21 years ago. let me make that point clearer: a VHS tape in 1995 had the behind the scenes features, but a DVD/Blu-Ray release in 2016 can't? seriously, how lazy can you possibly get? these Mortal Kombat films deserves more than just another lazy bare bones release for the one trillionth time in a row. they need to offer us a lot more than the same exact content that was slapped together in the original DVD release of the 2 films or The Journey Begins. they need to give us the extra content that would make buying these 2 highly entertaining films worth it. even the deleted ending for Annihilation that was shot but never shown to the public, would be worth buying that movie again. I love watching these 2 films, and I find it rather insulting that we have in 2016 yet another bare bones release of the 2 films on DVD with Legacy Season 1 yet again. meanwhile, Warner Brothers, New Line Cinema, & Threshold Entertainment has once again failed to understand that we don't want the same movies released over and over again with no special features on it that would make it worth buying and could add a lot more too it than just the film, a trailer, and bio's. what makes it even more lazy is that you can actually find a vast majority of these videos on YouTube as we speak. listen to me very closely, we want to buy these films. but we want them to offer a lot more content that will give us a real reason to want to buy these films again. that's how you draw in potential buyers. offer them more for less, and we'll be satisfied. it's not that difficult to ask fans what they want, and not giving it to them after over 2 decades and then release even more lazy bare bones versions, is not going to cut it anymore. Blu-Ray's can store a lot more data on it than DVD's, so this shouldn't even be a problem anymore. if they gave us a ton of bonus content with these films, give it a special edition release on Blu-Ray with the occasional Steelbook versions, then we will be satisfied and we will buy them. that's exactly what supply & demand is, and that's what gets us excited. if they gave us these films with that content I just mentioned, it would actually be exciting to finally get them on Blu-Ray knowing what they can offer for bonus content. case in point: John Carpenter's The Thing, Halloween Complete Series, Alien Quadrilogy, The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Extended Editions, and many more. don't just give us the same old versions over and over and over again without offering us anything new or interesting. but until that happens, just buy the single Blu-Ray releases instead folks. this bare bones release is not worth your hard earned money, and the fans deserve a far better Blu-Ray treatment by now for both films. (sigh) if Warner Brothers is not going to even try anymore, then maybe they should just allow Shout Factory to release these 2 films as Collector's Edition Blu-Ray's instead at this point.

Fun Movies Get Bare Bones Treatment Yet Again

as much as I like these movies, I really hate the bare bones treatment it has been given ever since it came out on DVD back in the late 90's. one would of thought that the fans would of gotten a proper special edition treatment at this point with tons of bonus content like the behind the scenes features and the deleted ending for the 2nd film (you know, the kind of bonus content that would add some real value to these movies, the kind of special features that would make the fans actually want to buy these films), but this is just lazy. seriously, another bare bones release Warner Brothers? at this point, if you still can't give these films the proper special edition Blu Ray treatment that they deserve, then just hand this franchise over to Shout Factory and they will take care of it for you. I'm sure they will know exactly what to do with it due to their outstanding track record. probably the reason why they were able to handle both the Bill & Ted series & The Exorcist III far better than the main studio ever could. so you might as well just hand them the keys to both films since they will be more than happy to give the fans what they want, not just release the same movies on a DVD over & over again with nothing new to offer. if you can give Batman & Robin special treatment, then there's absolutely no reason & zero excuses why you can't do the same for the 2 Mortal Kombat films. bottom line: just purchase the stand alone Blu Ray's instead, demand WB to release a proper special edition of these 2 films, and don't waste your hard earned money on yet another bare bones release such as this. even for MK fans, it's not worth it.

I received my Best Buy Reward amount of $5.00 and decided that I would buy a movie that wouldn't cost too much. I wasn't sure what movie I wanted to buy. I went to the store and saw Mortal Kombat. It was coincidence that I saw it because I wanted that movie. The dvd had three movies in one dvd. I thought that was great. It was a good find because Mortal Kombat came out years ago. It only cost around $7.00 so I only paid around $2.00. I felt happy afterwards.

Given the age and underwhelming success of these movies, I was surprised to find that anyone was selling them anymore, let alone in a set. What really caught my eye, however, was the inclusion of the short-lived and online-only "Legacy" series. If you're a MK fan, these movies alone are worth picking up, just for their B-movie fun. The inclusion of Legacy, however, makes this a must-have, given how obscure and hard to find it is.

I basically bought this set for Mortal Kombat 1. Mortal Kombat 2 is pretty cheesy and the special effects are sub-par at best. They tried to squeeze way too many characters into one movie. Mortal Kombat Legacy is actually not a film, but a 10-part web series. This was a lot better than I expected; however, each episode is only about 9 minutes long. All-in-all it's worth purchasing if you are a fan.

I mostly bought this just to watch the first Mortal Kombat film which is one of the best video game to movie translations. I really like how the creators bring life to the worlds and characters of the Mortal Kombat series without compromising what makes it so great in the first place

The two movies are cinematic cheese at it's best complete with bad special effects and stale acting, however, the episodes from the TV series included on this set make up for the two movies and are the reason for this getting 3 stars instead of just 1.
