I love my dumb tv!
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendPrimary use: movie and television shows over media streamer (WDTV Live Plus HD) Test Material: The Croods, Gurren Lagann, Frozen, From Up on Poppy Hill Calibration Method: THX tune-up (Android), Custom picture setting Construction / Connectivity: 4/5 This tv is very light and pretty thin. The bezel is narrow, making sure you get some nice real estate out of your screen. The connections are flush with the back panel, so be aware of that fact when using wall mounts. Ninety-degree HDMI cables are recommended in that situation. Also of note on video inputs is that there's exactly enough for most people. There's one component, two HDMI, one USB, and a coax input. That will be all you need if you use the component for your cable box, one HDMI for a game console, and the other for a blu-ray player / streamer. Setup: 5/5 The included stand was very simple to install. Two small brackets slide into place on the base, are screwed down, then the whole assembly slides into place in the back of the set. I suggest laying the panel face down on the edge of a table cushioned by a soft, non-abrasive surface such as soft towels or bedding. The stand is secure and the entire bottom frame is rubberized to make sure it stays put. Since I don't use cable tv or antenna, the initial setup was over in a matter of seconds. Video: 4/5 Viewing movies over the streamer gave a clear, bright picture. After calibration, the color was vivid. Contrast was good, with bright scenes in The Croods displayed in detail. Dark detail was also good, though there is some backlight bleed-through, which is common of LED-LCDs. A viewing of Gurren Lagann tested its ability for motion, which has frantic action sequences. The set barely skipped a beat, following the action without noticeable blurring / judder. From Up On Poppy Hill showed something a little different. Studio Ghibli films aren't known for the smoothness of their animation, and the set actually makes it more noticeable. In a direct comparison, the animation in Disney's Frozen is much smoother, and the set has no trouble keeping up. Audio: N/A (I used external speakers) Settings / Remote: 4/5 For a basic set, the picture controls are actually plentiful. There are separate controls for Backlight and Contrast, along with the usual Brightness, Color, Tint, and Sharpness controls. Some other controls usually found on higher tier sets are the Aspect control (specifically HD sizes), two noise reduction settings (MPEG and Video), and Black Level (which is consists of two settings: Light and Dark. It instantly makes the panel lighter or darker, which is nice for night time viewing so you don't strain your eyes.) However, the A.I. picture control created some problems. It's sort of like dynamic contrast, which adjusts contrast on the fly depending on the image. This feature actually created a noticeable flicker where there is a mixture of light and dark elements. This was especially evident in The Croods, where Grug's entire fur coat flickered. I turned the setting off. After which, the flicker disappeared. The remote is how you might expect it; however, the Menu button is just below the Power button, which had me accidentally turning the tv off when I wanted to adjust picture settings on occasion. Features: 3/5 As this is a "dumb" tv, there is no internet connectivity or apps such as Netflix. This posed no issue for me as I already have a streamer. Other common devices such as video games consoles and blu-ray players contain these features anyway. There's also an included Media Player if you connect a flash drive via the USB port. Pretty nifty, as it can show video, play music, and pictures; but again, because I was already using a streamer, this feature was unnecessary. Conclusion: I was initially worried about the fact that this is a 60Hz, bottom-of-the-line set, but those concerns were quickly dispelled after watching it in action. Color, contrast, and brightness are all good, but not great because of backlight bleed-through. Blur and judder are minimal with the A.I. setting turned off. I wish all manufacturers treated their lowest tier sets this well.

Great picture, limited sight lines
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI have always bought Panasonic TVs because of their great picture and problem free use. Have never needed a repair. This TV was a replacement for a 32 inch Panasonic tube TV that still worked perfectly. I just wanted a basic HD with a larger screen. The 39 inch screen is perfect for my stand and my living room.I also have a 32 inch Panasonic HD LCD bought 7 years ago with an incredible picture. Back then a 32 inch cost about $900. This 39 inch LED/LCD isn't quite as good as the 7 year old 32 inch LCD in that the viewing angle seem more limited. It is best to watch this new one head on while the older model could be viewed from front or either side. When I first brought the TV home I was somewhat dissatisfied because I could not get the picture the way I wanted. Calibrating all the options just wasn't working. Then I searched Google for this model and calibration and found the settings a number of people were using and the suggestions to let the TV warm up for 30 minutes before adjusting the settings. I tried those and it was much better, although I did need to tweak the tint and color levels slightly. Now, the picture is absolutely gorgeous. The TV is quite thin, as is the bezel, which makes it seem bigger than it is. Since getting the settings to my liking, I am very satisfied with this purchase, and the price was right at $299. It has only 2 HDMI ports but I already had a splitter that lets me add three more and switches automatically to whatever attachment is powered on. It also has a USB port and a media setting for viewing digital pictures. My suggestion is, if you see this TV at this price, go for it. You are getting a solid brand with a great picture at a bargain TV/ no name/ store brand price.

Great TV for a great price
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased this TV mostly to play my PS4 gaming console. The overall picture quality is fabulous. The games look amazing and run great at 60fps. The TV is almost a true 39 inches. It has a very thin border and the screen goes about 38 3/4 inches in diameter. I love that it's thin and sleek looking. The included stand/base goes so well with the set. Really makes it look awesome on my stand. The sound quality is also very impressive. The TV does not have any smart TV features such as Internet connection or social media apps. But for a basic TV and gaming console monitor you really won't find a better TV than this. I highly recommend it.

Great picture for price. Get a Roku for smartTV
Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAt 299 this TV is a great value. It's cheaper than it's "Smart" counterpart by a hundred dollars. Typically, these smart features are sub-par even on high end TVs and don't get updated as often or conveniently. I recommend using a Roku (Cheap), Chromecast (cheapest), or Xbox/Playstation (you may already have one) setup. They are more powerful and flexible and stay up to date better anyway. Buy a TV these days for one thing: the picture. The sound is adequate, but like all modern flat panels, if you want decent sound, get a soundbar (and a woofer as a bonus). For great sound, hook it up to a home theater system. This is a 39" TV, not typically "home theater" size. We got it for a bedroom. The picture is fine for the price. It's actually quite good compared to my 60" Sharp Aquos. This display is 1080p at 60hz . . the 120hz stuff may be nice in certain situations, but I turn all of the artificial enhancement off anyway to avoid the artificial "soap opera" effect. Don't let your modern display ruin your favorite TV and Movies with all the artificial enhancement. The profile is very attractive--anything cheaper than this (typically, Insignia or Westinghouse) won't come in as attractive of a package. The bezel is very thin, and the stand is modern , sturdy and attractive. I thought it was the best value on the shelves.

Great value for the money
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendGreat value for the money -- bought on sale and with a BestBuy coupon, could not beat the deal. Not the most modern up-to-date and latest, but solid and does the trick. Wish it had 3 HDMI and not the composite video, but can't beat he price. Easy set-up and it worked out of the box with my Panasonic Blu-Ray that does have net and wireless connection - so not a big deal...

Perfect for the Price!
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendAfter doing a bit of online research, I ended up trusting my instincts and bought this one. Best Buy had the RCA on sale, which is the one I had initially intended to purchase. Once there however, I wandered around a bit and came upon the Panasonic - the picture just seemed to be a lot sharper. With absolutely NO pressure from the sales guy, and even though the price was a bit higher, I chose the Panasonic. When I went to check out, it actually came up to be the same price as the RCA that was on sale - major score!!! So far, very happy with my purchase!

GOOD TV FOR THE PRICE PAID
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendOnly wish it had headphone jack to hook-up old soundbar; would need to have adapter from toslink to rca to do so. Like the sleep timer. Otherwise, good basic TV value for the sale price paid $299 & didn't need or want internet capabilities.

good tv for the $
|Posted .I would recommend this to a friendI purchased this Panasonic for 3 main reasons. Size, decent picture, low price. I already own a Panasonic ST60 plasma which has a picture that is SO good I wish I'd bought a half dozen more to last the rest of my life. But since no one makes a decent midsize (<40 inches) plasma anymore and this TV is for my spare bedroom so I didn't need a smart TV, this 39" Panasonic fits the room perfectly. The LED-overbrightness, edge bleeding and weird color saturations can't be fully attenuated, but overall the picture (when not side by side with a plasma) is pretty good. The black piano gloss narrow bezel makes the TV look classy and unobtrusive. With the easy to set up controls and $250 price, I am happy with the purchase.
